Originally from northern Germany but now residing in Berlin Finn Johannsen has become a steady backbone of the electronic music scene in the capital, in Germany. With several involvements in various fields, i.g. as a booker, DJ, co-label head, Hard Wax employee or journalist, Finn has gained multiple experiences allowing him to gain and develop diverse perspectives and views on the scene, the business and beyond. As one part of the booker-team of Paloma, a Berlin institution for underground music and cultural affairs, and as the booker of Monarch Johannsen has gone through the ups and downs the pandemic has caused over the past two years – even when there have been probably more downsides rather than the opposite. However, the artist has not lost hope and speaks about the past, present and future of club(culture) and how he has overcome yet perceived the development of the scene and its players. Additionally, the Macro co-label head – the label that Johannsen runs with Stefan Goldmann, speaks about how he has remained passionate about music all those years, how he’s kept a sane mind over the pandemic and delivers the longest art:cast in history – or a travel through his records. If you expect a club-based set, then Johannsen has to disappoint you as he musically mostly refers to the golden era of HipHop, the 90s.

As we begin to notice those first flickers of Fall, it beckons a new phase of reflection. A meditation on the power of silence. Those spaces between the notes which can often be more important than the notes themselves. Our next guest understands this power well and has utilized it throughout his almost 30-year career to astonishing effect. 

Rolando, at this point, should need little introduction. A former member of Underground Resistance, he has since gone on to start his own R3 imprint and hold residencies at both Berghain and Rex Club in Paris. His music has deep roots in Detroit where he grew up, permeating through his lifeblood as an artist. Normally known for his inclination towards building and maintaining an infectious groove, he uses that same skill here but without the pummeling presence of the kick drum. Rather, he guides us along with percussive pads and ethereal musings in this special 2-hour edition of UNRUSH.

Since 1990, Paul Wise aka Placid legendary for his sets of purest 303-drenched acid, has been spinning at house parties, clubs and festivals across the UK and further afield. Resident at the longest running and best acid house night I Love Acid, you can catch him playing at Were Going Deep parties in his hometown of Bristol and as part of Depth Perception (a collective of music obsessives playing deep electronic music across multiple genres). Placid's gigging biography has taken him to Detroit, New York, Berlin, France, Spain, Belgium and Holland as well as the Glastonbury and BLOC music festivals. 

Reputed to be the owner of one of the world's most encompassing collections of Acid House, Placid is a walking acid-house encyclopaedia who can always be trusted to dig deep into his records crate to bring you a pure vinyl set of the absolute best of Acid House, Detroit Techno, Deep House, Electro and Chicago House. He currently has a 15k strong group dedicated to the deeper sounds on facebook as Were Going Deep and his label of the same name just recently dropped their 11th release.
