Mago Radio Show by Audio Junkies

Joseph Kamaru, aka KMRU (@kamarujoseph), is a sound artist and experimental ambient musician, raised in Nairobi, Kenya, and currently based in Berlin. Recent years have seen KMRU find a place amongst the most stirring voices within the experimental music space, courtesy of his distinctive usage and combination of field recordings, noise, ambient textures and expansive hypnotic drones. 
A luminous presence within the scene, KMRU has garnered critical acclaim not only for releases on the likes of @warp-records, @editionsmego and @subtext-recordings, but also for his live performances, which have seen him take the stage at high-profile events across Europe and the globe.

KMRU’s Patterns of Perception 105 is a poised and evocative passage which floats gracefully between delicate instrumentation, melodic phrasing and abstract ambient textures. Sparked by recent inspirations and experiences, this indelible set embraces peace, stillness and vibrance in equal measure, coming together as a carefully divined tapestry - meditative and shimmering.

Our podcast series continues, this month’s story is told by Sanjib. 

Established in the countryside, near the confluence of the rivers Rhone and Saône, Jean’s deep inspirations started in 2015. In 2018, he released his first album, «From Earth to Heaven» on the French label Lett Records. Exploring deeper atmospheres and focused on emotion, his music is dedicated to travel and introspection. 

His works can be found on the brilliant South Korean label Oslated, and also on Annulled, Precept, or Stellar Transitions. Today’s selection is a long walk highlighting the deep spirit of a personal quest.

SKIN Podcast Series #015 Clarence Rise 

Starting this year music exploration with a podcast by mastermind Clarence Rise, exploring subgenres of hypnotic techno and deep DnB. @clarencerise: 'For this particular podcast, I've chosen to take as many tracks as possible that are both hypnotic and very percussive, while using a fast, suffocating rhythmic progression. Like a wild hunt in the woods, it's up to the listener to decide whether to be the hunter or the hunted.' 

Over the years, French producer Clarence Rise has developed a strong, intense, and singular musical identity, where incisive techno blends with chilling atmospheres. Some describe his work as Cinematic or Cold Techno, emphasizing complex rhythms, dark sound design, and contemplative melancholy.

French artist Tryphème debuts on Impatience with “Odd Balade”, a darkly-hued collection of songs drawn from human delicacy and dreamworld mythology.  

“Odd Balade” is Tryphème’s most ambitious and boldest record to date - both lyrically and musically. The album’s thirteen tracks resist rigid genre boundaries and flutter from medieval folk realms, sprawling synths, gothic 80s wave, leftfield pop, haunted vocals, mutant electronica to reverbed guitars - all reflected through her own shadowy prism. Especially album closer “A Walk In The Vercors” evokes a soothing serenity that echoes the sonic balm of Julee Cruise.  

Tryphème’s musical repertoire trends heavily electronic and somewhat abstracted, but on “Odd Balade”, the artist slips into the role of the modern troubadour with a shift to a more poetically and personal songwriting that is infused with symbolism and dreamlike fantasies. The connective tissue of the album is the audacity to love and the vulnerability that ensues. As intimate and introspective as the lyrics are, the themes remain universal and human to the core: the fear of losing a loved one, the melancholia of leaving places and the cycles of life. 

The record was largely composed in Chars, stirred by the French village’s eerie atmosphere and frequent trips to the seaside in Brittany, where Tryphème resides. Drawing inspiration from the rugged terrain of the seaside landscapes, the writings of Allen Ginsberg and Mark Fisher and the hyperrealist art of Scott Prior, Tryphème uses her songs to depict life with broad strokes of rhythm.  

On “Odd Balade” Tiphaine Belin consolidates herself as a gifted, nimble songwriter, masterly producer and subtly powerful vocalist. The record combines her skill for crafting lush, alien sound worlds and efficient, alluring arrangements with stealthily devastating songs. Her voice becomes a key ingredient, appearing on eleven of Odd Balade’s thirteen tracks, by turns heavily manipulated, sampled and replayed as a form of percussion, or basically bare.

“Odd Balade” is the manifestation of Tryphème’s roving artistic practice, a ceremonial-grade sacrament cast in a rich nocturnal glow. Pairing the mundane with the mythic, the album stays true to its core: odd and strangely familiar. 

RIYL - Riding off into the sunset to an unknown destination, hauntology, the present, tales told by the fireside, hot summer rain, adventures, to feel a warm presence when you are walking in the forest or in the mountains, coastal landscapes, sailor’s stories, slow motion, vitesse, heavy blossoms, colors, the warmth of the sun, the tenderness of the moon, getting lost in unfamiliar streets, city lights, motorway rest areas by night, magic numbers, rendez-vous, picnics, serendipity, poetry, the smell of old records and old books.

Pingipung's very own Andi Otto is part of the Alien Orchestra that supports Ada during her recent shows. You can catch them live on the 12th October in the Elbphilharmonie, Hamburg. Ada and Andi also DJ together on the 6th July at Jupiter, also in Hamburg.

"In this mix I wanted to play a range of deep cuts I've been into lately and I have featured artists from Melbourne, Sydney, Perth and Adelaide. Lots of ultra deep dubby cuts and also ventured into wonky electronics, breakbeat and electro bits that have blown me away recently. A few of the artists on this mix still play live shows regularly in town and wanted to support their work".

"Hailing from Naarm (Melbourne), grew up in the eastern suburbs and about 20ish years ago an old school friend taught me how to spin techno in the early naughties. In reaction to the commercial house and cheesy music playing in some of the night spots, I was always looking for something deeper. Myself and some close friends were inspired to put on a party called Deep Chord at Pony Bar (yes, they were very inspirational to us) we played deep techno, dub tech and minimal house in the mid 2000s. Great times. Dabbled in local radio stations, designed lots of flyers and supported a few internationals like Akufen, Fiedel, Andy Vaz, Deadbeat and Monolake. Still spinning around different venues, bars plus the dinner set at Revolver and always up for a versus set in any genre. I am currently curating a podcast called audible fotosynthesis which was born from an event I hosted playing deeper sounds".
