Our podcast series continues, this month’s story is told by Zemög. 

Co-founder of @matteriacollective, Jose is a talented producer from Pereira, a small capital in the middle of the mountains of the Colombian “Eje Cafetero”. Very influenced by the roots of his country, he had developed a precisely defined technique combining organic, tribal and deep sounds.

‘ Conceiving sound implies knowing it, recording it, manipulating it and seeking a purpose with it. In my life all the projects are directly linked to sound art. I have had the opportunity to record direct sound throughout most of my country and I have used a lot of that recorded material to generate textures and grooves in my compositions. Both the music I produce, as well as the mixes I do live, tend to find a generative, meditative and minimalist purpose in changing tempos, always looking for the sweet spot of bodily disinhibition and mental ecstasy. ‘

The following podcast is quite special for our series as it is surprisingly the first guestmix delivered by a DJ, coming from the Czech scene. Based in Brno, Mikuláš aka Kosmic Skaut, is a core member of the ÉTER collective, Radio Isolate, and the founder of the upcoming Festival Michalský Výpad.

As a passionate record collector, Kosmic Skaut excels in combining downbeat trance-y beats and trippy electro chants. For this occasion, he blew away the dust from his back collection and recorded the mix. And he did just great.

If this happens, think that the investment in time and effort is not usually linear to progress and that the beginnings almost always take more than the time we had budgeted.

But you know what? That you can get it, you just have to remember why you started and so you can achieve it.

Joan Gila is the curator of HOC radio (@hoc-radio) and half of the Binomi (@binomi) project. For this mix he tells us: “I have always thought that the dubtechno does not have to be dark or that the idea can be turned a bit. Dubtechno relaxes me a lot and I can see bright and major tones".

Definitely, it's a matter of putting light to darkness.

Inside, the mist can be seen as a manifestation of the inherent mystery and uncertainty of the world. In this sense, the beauty of the mist lies in its ability to inspire awe and wonder and to remind us of the vastness of the universe and the limitations of our knowledge. From a philosophical perspective, the beauty of the mist can also be seen as a reminder of the fleeting nature of existence and the importance of cherishing and appreciating our moments. By embracing the beauty of the mist, we can open ourselves to new possibilities and experiences and gain a deeper appreciation for the world around us.

"My musical foundations are rooted in AC/DC, Sabbath and Metallica and give rise to a love of 4/4 rhythm and the riff. From here, they veered into where worlds collide – Pink Floyd met the Orb in a student dive, and a love of electronica was born, encompassing pioneers such as Orbital, Leftfield et al. through to UK D&B, taking in Kruder & Dorfmeister and the dub scene along the way.
The love affair ended in the early nineties, I wasn't feeling anything from electronica anymore, but I knew the music I could hear in my mind must be out there - somewhere. My musical imagination put all the above aspects in place and was only discovered pre-pandemic in deep techno. This discovery so rekindled my love and excitement that I took the plunge into DJing - I wanted to take the music internally heard and create mixes to ease back to and soothe the soul. Voila. I hope you all get the same enjoyment from this mix as I had to make it." - Morian.
