Currently based in Berlin, he has found a cosy corner on Refuge Worldwide where he regularly rides the waves with his show Francachela. Pathing his way through the nightlife, he pushes big-room Balearic sounds around town with Orbita, a freshly minted party he runs alongside Llupe. Recorded in a free flowing manner this offering includes Downtempo, Street Soul, Italo and more to wash down an afternoon Cava and bring in that sunset you’ve been waiting for.

E a intenção não vem da troca com o público, mas do dialogo consigo mesmo. Nessa busca, eu percebi que tinha escolhido muitas músicas que, de alguma forma, falavam sobre a água. Para a nossa sorte, o Brasil e a água são indissociáveis. Ambos são fluidez, movimento, vida e sentimento. E essa foi uma forma que encontrei de canalizar meu sentimento com o Brasil que, apesar de distante, segue fluindo em mim.

Espero que gostem dessa mistura de águas e terras, presente e passado, azuis, verdes e amarelos.

A recorded mix presents different challenges from a live set. A recording is premeditated, technical, with a beginning, middle, and end that exist for their own sake. The intention doesn’t come from an exchange with the audience but from an inner dialogue.

In this search, I realized I had chosen many songs that, in some way, spoke about water. Fortunately for us, Brazil and water are inseparable. Both embody fluidity, movement, life, and emotion. This became my way of channeling my connection with Brazil, which, despite the distance, continues to flow within me.

I hope you enjoy this blend of waters and lands, present and past, blues, greens, and yellows.

LA’s Carré kicks off the first in a two-part mix series curated by Darwin, marking a decade of the SPE:C label. Known for her subversive sets and a sharp focus on dubstep, leftfield techno, and bass-driven sounds, her contribution to the RC mix series delivers exactly that.

Darwin: "I met Carré a few years ago when she booked me for her party at Fast at Work in LA. I’d already been playing out her dubs quite a bit and had asked her then to sign to SPE:C. It was really inspiring to meet another woman as dedicated to running events and as passionate about dubstep and bass music as I am. Carré’s flair for lush, dreamy atmospheres is unmatched, and I feel honored to have been able to give her a platform to showcase that. She’s also a killer DJ and played one of the sickest after-hours sets at REEF last spring. You can check out her skills on this mix."

Bait is set to release the debut EP, ‘Hepp’, from Leipzig producer Old Man Crane with four subterranean bass experimentations.
Marking the 16th release on the label since its inception in 2023, the connection between Old Man Crance and the label started via a DM with her demos and blossomed into a collaborative partnership including a spontaneous back-to-back with Beatrice M. at Bassmaessage last year. The ‘Hepp’ EP follows shortly on from Old Man Crane’s first appearance on Bait via the One Hundred and Fifty Steps compilation series and begins an exciting chapter for the emerging artist.

The second installment in Darwin’s curated mixes for Rhythmic Culture comes from UK duo Dual Monitor. Their boundary-pushing productions have earned them the moniker “The UK Genre Alchemists” from Rinse FM. This open-format approach to music carries through to their vibrant, kaleidoscopic DJ sets—no two ever the same. The duo deftly weaves together twisted, low-slung UK bass, skittering IDM, dancefloor-shaking tech-bow, and zoned-out dub and jungle.

Darwin: "The story of Dual Monitor is actually a really cute one. Jake Hodge sent me a track they made "Step Pattern" because he was so blown away by the production and said "You need to sign this," and I did instantly not even listening to it a second time! Fliss and Zebb are hands down some of the most talented up-and-coming producers I’ve come across in a while. The speed at which they’re cranking out tunes and dubs, and the range in their sound, is unreal. On top of that, they’re two of the loveliest people to hang with. So happy to have them as part of the SPE:C family."

First time I came across SPE:C was through Sepehr’s elegant chugger « Roll the Dice », I’ve now had the opportunity to do my own take on it, very much inspired by 2010s techy dubstep from the likes of Asusu, Fureshu, A Made Up Sound, etc …channeling milimalism and nostalgia. 
Also on the remix pack is Jasmin’s halftime groover remix of my track « Calibre » part of the Take a Sip EP I did on SPE:C last year

This 12” picks up where Furesshu’s digital releases at a dubstep tempo on Echodub left off but also pushes into the deep, Berlin inspired techno sound that he is presently concentrating on (hopefully Project Squared will be releasing some of these unreleased techno productions in the near future).
1993 sounds fast for its mid 130s tempo, the bass drives the track’s pace and the delay affected stabs provide just enough melody. Horizons feels slower, you could perhaps describe it as a half step track although it twists up the formula for that sub genre. The bass evolves and changes throughout the track, rising and falling, coupled with drones and drums punctuating the track rather than providing a constant element. Untitled marks a change in Furesshu’s sound. 4/4 deep techno; 11 minutes of gradual, constant evolution in the melodic parts of the track but the driving, perfectly toned kick drum and hi hats holding the groove in place.
