gonima is a Montreal-based audiovisual artist who excels in the exploration of complex rhythms, ambient-like atmospheres, and brain-picking sound textures. Evan's latest release on Satellite Era beautifully showcases these characteristics, making it one of the most complete and cohesive works of electronic music we have heard in a minute.

For 009 of our mix series, gonima covers a vast array of electronic music, giving us a perfectly balanced dosage of the sounds that move us. From ambient to UKG, each track feels flawlessly placed, turning the listening experience into an absolute treat.

ϙue is a spiritually-driven soundscaper — their music unveils the enigmatic electricity of everything alive. With oa, they form the post-ambient duo OO0oϙ0O0O00O; they're also co-curator of ICKPA — Bassiani-backed festival in Kyiv, Berlin, NY, Prague; curator of Biorhythm Radio and co-runner of educational action platform VIRA | dd/mm/yy, which helps mitigate the ongoing ecocide caused by Russia in Ukraine and Europe.

In a dystopian future, machines ooze with acid slime, their rhythmic pulses a stark contrast to the decaying city around them. The signature squelch blends with the gurgling, corrosive liquids seeping from their circuits, creating a symphony of decay. These acid machines, like digital alchemists, transform the toxic sludge into sound, crafting eerie melodies and distorted beats. Acid rain, spawned from the machines' emissions, drums a relentless rhythm on crumbling rooftops. Amidst this synthetic chaos, humanity's remnants dance, lost in the hypnotic embrace of an acid-soaked reality.

This month Carhartt WIP Radio welcomes @yyyooouuuttthhh, the Manchester-based label founded in 2017 by Andrew Lyster, aka DJ Lyster. Eclectic in style, the label’s output has spanned dubstep, electro, hip-hop, IDM, techno, wave and other experimental abstractions. The result is a captivating and thoroughly contemporary sound, with an equally compelling visual identity, likely owing to Lyster’s own design background. 

The eclecticism of YOUTH is not limited to its sound, however, with an artist roster that includes local acts such as FUMU and @sockethead, as well as the visual artist and producer @dijit from Egypt, enigmatic producer @ssiege, and @hoshina Anniversary from Tokyo, Japan. Additionally, the label has released work by UK producer @joy-orbison, via his Sin Falta pseudonym.

For Carhartt WIP Radio DJ Lyster prepared a trip through the nascent archives of YOUTH, to “hopefully give an idea of the label's past and an idea of where it’s going.” 

We also sat down with Lyster to discuss the YOUTH’s origins, curating an album from a body of tracks, and the enduring importance of record labels in a digital era.
