Imagine someone, someone with a deep fear of spiders, fast asleep in bed, their dreams disturbed by something, but what? And then suddenly, in their dream, they awake, to see hundreds of spiders crawling on the floor, the walls - everywhere except the bed. Frozen with fear they lay there, willing themselves to wake up, and then, POOF! They have all gone, disappeared. And just when they think it is safe to get out of bed, they spy from behind the wardrobe a spider, a HUGE spider, a spider as big as a saucer, slowly crawling towards the bed. They are still dreaming! Slowly, and menacingly it begins to crawl up the bed, and then it is there, right beside their trembling legs, and then it slowly begins to creep upwards, and then, BANG! Our sleeper awakes! It was a dream, within a dream, within a dream! And as they breath a sigh of relief, unbeknown to them, a spider silently crawls on the floor underneath the bed!

Dreaming Of Spiders

This piece was inspired  by a trip to York Railway Museum some years ago, and the enormous Chinese locomotive on display: the KF7.

I imagined what would it be like if such a monster of a machine was possessed by the Devil himself, and the chaos and carnage it would leave in its wake as it hurtled along the railway line. 

This piece has been composed using orchestral samples and some electronica for sound FX. The sound of the train driving forward was created using clusters of  double basses and cellos.

The Devil's Locomotive

This piece explores through musical structure an interpretation  of various aspects of a dark personality: brooding, disturbed, devious, morose, morbid, insane. The music also attempts to describe sudden changes in mood, from low to manic highs, as well as hinting at violent tendencies.

Experimental electronica track that would be suitable as a main theme for an action movie. Grungy, raw, gritty with big percussive elements.

Special Ops

'Mistress of potions and caster of spells,
At the Witch's lair you do not dwell,
For if by chance you should cross her path,
Beware, above all, her most evil wrath.'

An orchestral piece, describing an old witch in her cave, in the dark and evil forest, stirring a potion in her cauldron, and finally casting a spell to rouse a most demonic spirit, that she sets forth to create mayhem.

Sat by a window, a rocking chair, old and worn, rocks back and forth all by itself: who is sat in the chair?

An eerie orchestral and piano piece with a melody, musically illustrating the motion of the chair. (Orchestral samples).

Piano track for library, a mournful but also reflective piece that focuses on discovering the truth about someone or something.  Atmospheric.

Subtle Truth

Original piece written for a dance piece performed underwater by Junior Jones of ND Limits.  The project is very much in the experimental stage, and this particular film centers on a sea creature that becomes ensnared in a net and dies.  The first half of the piece is playful, picking up on the creature's youthfulness and beauty, whilst the second half represents the danger of the net, and the subsequent struggle to escape and the eventual death. Great feedback on the project so far, and seeking to move this to stage 2.

The story is told through a narrator, speaking characters, dance and music and Part 1 gives us a brief history of the city's past. 

Southampton Story PART 1

This is Part 2 of the musical theatre production for 'Southampton Story', a production for E-QUIP Community Arts and Matt Bunday Events Ltd. This music was composed for the pilot show, performed on 27th November 2014, and so far has received very good reviews. The plan is to create a bigger, longer production for 2016. The story is told through a narrator, speaking characters, dance and music and Part 2 tells the story of the Titanic through song, and a waltz for dance to reflect the World Wars and the impact these events had on the city. 

Southampton Story PART 2

Standing at the top of a mountain, the clouds clear to reveal the sun rising. Taking a deep breath, you step towards the edge of the precipice.  You lean forward…and fall...and begin to soar and fly.

Above and Beyond

A cue from the film 'Dying Candle' directed by Naresh Kumar. The story is a social drama set in Nepal and is about the relationship between a young brother and his older sister, and the sacrifice she ultimately makes to save him.  This cue sees the brother, Tipke, running though his village to home, and the main melody running through this piece is his theme. (Filmed entirely on location in Nepal and is due for release in 2016). 

Dying Candle - Cue 2

A second track exploring the world of the 'Sentient'.  This track features the words and voice of Petra Caramela, telling the story of a human, who has become part one of the alien sentinel, calling out to her former partner, still in the human form, remembering him, seeking him.

Sentient Soundscape V2

Trailer track for up coming Zombie feature 'Zombie Resurrection'.  The track is two separate movements, the first being a soundscape with climax, the second is more dynamic with rhythm and percussion, in a 3/4 time signature which is unusual – but works!

A 'big and gutsy' track in line with the current trend of trailer music. There is a faint echo of the main theme. Please note there is a gap of silence in the middle of it.

This is demonstration track exploring light's reflective properties - on water, the leaves of trees on a bright summers day or cut glass or a jewel (as examples). Floating between different time signatures, the musical structure represents the visual spectacle, as well the mystery. Featuring a combination of orchestral, choir and electronica arrangement.
