São Paulo’s Badsista has a thing for adventurous club sounds. The Brazilian artist and DJ fuses baile funk, jackin’ house, techno and more into her sets and productions, with a scope that’s as cutting edge as it is – simply – lots of fun. Womxn-championing label femme culture recently released Badsista’s ‘Machooka‘, a club heater liable to take your eyebrows off. It’s the second release of Badsista’s they’ve put out, after she appeared on their yearly ‘HeForShe’ compilation in aid of UN Women, alongside Minimal Violence and label head honcho Elkka, among others. Pure energy, Badsista’s Dummy Mix is a reflection of her effortless selecting capabilities with syncopated, groove-laden rhythms running throughout. “The last two months, I’ve been more emotional and visiting good memories, good feelings like the sun on my skin and good food in my mouth,” Badsista says. “I’m playing the guitar and singing again as you can see on ‘Calor e Dança’. The rhythm has been so crazy that I wanted to hold down a little bit and just enjoy the beautiful melodies. I’m inviting everyone to do this with me. Hope y’all enjoy the cute Badsista.”

Peachy Skies Ft. Em Sky - Gladwyn Graham

Newcastle’s Spelks are delighted to announce the release of of their shimmering noise pop-inflected single, The Happy Places, out on 24th April 2020 via Montgomery Records. 

The brainchild of Jonathon Sabiston (guitar, drums, bass, keys, vocals), Spelks was borne out of a desire to create a  musical project without compromise, writing and recording all the parts himself. Recorded in a cramped spare room in his Newcastle based flat, The Happy Places perfectly encapsulates Spelks sparse, yet quirky, noise pop sound. 

Opening with scuzzy, discordant guitar notes and a simple, yet effective, toe tapping drum beat, The Happy Places offers an uplifting, summery charm, playfully straddling the line between the new wave pop sensibilities of Squeeze and the lo-fi alt.rock associated with acts like Surfer Blood and Cloud Nothings. 

Written about living with agoraphobia and anxiety, the themes contained within The Happy Places elements of which we can all relate to, and offers an uplifting message about the desire and ability we have to find hope and contentment within ourselves.
