Hello, thanks for tuning in, and welcome to 'Wanderers of the Megacity', our program dedicated to the exploration of the fascinating lives of Procyon alveare, or hive raccoons, as we commonly know them. The proliferation of hive raccoons through this past decade continue to puzzle scientists and animal behavioralogists. Their uncanny intelligence and unnatural gravitation towards human technologies was first uncovered in the hive cities of Japan, when a gaze of Procyon lotor, or the common North American raccoon (greatly introduced to the Japanese isles after the extinction of the Japanese raccoon dog), was found inhabiting a maintenance facility. The raccoons eluded capture for several weeks, and when their nest was located, workers were surprise to find that the raccoons were hoarding discarded technology such as amplifiers, sub-woofers, circuit boards, tablets, cellphones, and wiring. Even more surprising was the discovery of the raccoons' attempts to siphon electricity off the hive power grid.

As animal scientists continue to observe these nocturnal foragers, another captivating development has surfaced. The domestic cats, Felis catus, that lived in hive cities began to exhibit peculiar behaviors. Cats would often raid open pantries, fridges, and the occasional aquarium for fish. Instead of eating said fish, felines would carry these piscine morsels and deposit them near ventilation grates or sewer access pipes outside. Sometimes two or more cats would help carry the load, a rare behavior since most of these felines did not cohabit with each other due to federal regulations on pet planning policy. 

Hive raccoons, smelling and seeing these morsels while foraging, would come out to retrieve these meals. Sometimes the felines and raccoons would meet, and a friendly nuzzling followed by some vocalizations from both parties would occur. After a moment, the raccoons would leave, carrying their fishy offerings back to their nesting grounds. In several documented instances, glarings of cats would leave their domicile once again late at night after these exchanges and venture towards the lower levels of hive cities, to their owners' frustrations.

Their cats often come back dirty, weary, and exhausted; they also exhibit atypical behavior, such as the bobbing of their heads and shuffling of their four feet to different rhythms or patterns. These behaviors disappear after a day or two, but the behavioral ritual of piscine offerings and disappearances at night would occur again short after, usually on the weekends. Owners of cats in NAFS have coined these activities "cat-fishing"; memes and merchandise of hive raccoons and hive cats are popular as ever on NAFS-net and other hive cities around the world as well.

Where the cats goes when the sun sets is a mystery, but tonight, we bring you for the first time presented in high definition stereophonic sound and VR a scientific immersive experience of a lifetime, as we follow our genetically-modified and augmented feline named Katerina into the underbelly of Shikaakwa-Arco. Follow Katerina as we deliver an offering of fish and descend into the bowels of the city to discover and reveal what secrets these hive raccoons may bear.

This special one off collaboration sees Berlin prodigy Max Graef, coupling with globe trotter Fantastic Man aka Mic Newman. With Mic living in Max's broom cupboard for a few vodka soaked weeks in Berlin last autumn, there was a beautiful inevitability that some music would outcome. The lead track "Soothe Me" is no noodly shrinking violet, but a grade 10-cross-genre-dance-floor-destroyer which Andy snapped up for label on first listen. Clearly taking it's inspiration from the Rhodes and sample drenched Sound Signature Detroit label and adding in live instrumentation, tape effects, for a track rich in Steely Dan sensibility, coupled with a sub bass and twisted lead line dragging us into a new year. The B-Side Relaxin' At The Flip is a raw slab of analogue goodness, flying 606 high hats, a tough kick drum and simple elements driving the track forwards, best heard 8am in a dark corner of a club.

FINA Records was established in 2011, originally as an offshoot for Ralph Lawson's 2020 Vision label. Three years into that tenure, the partnership ended with both parties looking to focus on their own imprints full time. The identity that FINA has crafted for itself is one that's hard to put a finger on, as their releases encompass a fairly wide range. Not pigeonholing themselves into one style they do manage to have a common factor connecting their music and that is strong melodic undertones. Whether it's a fairly downtempo tune or a more straightforward house jam, there is always an inherently musical nature to their output.

Saine (soundcloud), a Helsinki-based producer who has somehow managed to fly (somewhat) under the radar for years, even with his consistent quality, is a perfect fit for the aforementioned unquantifiable character that FINA has established for itself. His loose and smokey, organic sound filled with obscure samples has landed him releases on some fantastic record labels, such as an EP on the now discontinued Sleazy Beats Black Ops and an excellent mini-LP on Fools & Fables Recordings. The Finnish musician's latest is called "Mint EP" and it features three stellar cuts.

Today's premiere and the A1 'Technique' doesn't stray from what we've come to expect from Saine. Muted keys set the tone as a looped guitar rhythm and understated bass form the foundation of the groove. Crisp yet slightly hazy drums are in support with shaker patterns fluttering throughout. A second guitar sample plays call and response with a held vocal note while a male voice croons an unintelligible phrase. Sampled rhodes-like bleeps doodle throughout the first half when the vocals aren't present, taking centre stage during the mini-break. The various instruments and samples are elegantly filtered in and out while oscillating atmospheric noises help create a sense of motion. The Finnish sampling maestro is once again able to bring forth another must-have record and the good news is that it will be released in just a couple of days!

“Something To Talk About“ is funky, dreamy and sparks that twitchy leg movement when you doubt if you should be dancing or be slightly head banging to that tune.

“Under Her Skin“ might take off on a weird bit quirky dirty start, but when that lead kicks in, … we were sold.
Extremely funky. Be aware: you can’t hold yourself from clapping to this song. 

On the B-side, “Winter Tale“ counts as the second A track on the EP. Deep! Gentle and yet so snappy in it’s own dirty way.
We fell in love from the first note, or should we say that filthy deep baseline, those dirty well mixed-in toms and snappy rude claps!

“Running Man”. Well… if you like dreamy catchy house. This is for you.
A nice extra track, making this EP a brilliant pressing.

We can’t emphasize the talent Alexander has.

Brian Abelson aka See Other is one of the brightest talents from the deeper and dustier side of house to emerge this last couple of years. Based in New York, he's been honing and refining his style of brooding, purring, chunk sample-based house rollers for some time. The final brew is humble mixture of low-slung Smallville-esque warmth, Fred P level deepness and playful, tinkering wooden melodies that recall some of the finest work from the Drumpoet Community collective.

Across this debut EP is a masterful grasp of the deep house template, with an array of hook-based elements that turn respectable raw bangers into transcendental experiences both at home and in the dance.

Standard records are often too mediocre. The average track has been wrongfully given to much attention in order to achieve maximum income per release. Since digital music has been more available than ever, standards have been low as never seen before.

Some tracks are brilliant and special, others aren't worth it. Not even to get a digital format. Many tracks have been wrongfully given to much attention & have been falsely setting the tone for the new good. Good is not good enough!

We truly believe that music should be treated honestly and no one should lower the bar.
As a label, you should set an example. You should feel obligated to find the best mastering out there for your tracks. You should give honest feedback to new artists. You should define quality at the highest level possible.

We're extremely transparent in our communication in order to give you the most uncensored information about the other side of the music industry.

We aim to release the best we can get in our current time frame.
We don't settle with good enough. We're here to make a difference and help other to do so in any way we possibly can.
