VALE returns to its origins with the Autism Awareness fundraiser compilation Awareness Vol. II. This Bandcamp driven charity release was available in full on World Autism Awareness Day. All proceeds were donated to the charity, Music for Autism. The artists and label are honored to dedicate our time and effort to the community and improving the lives of others.

Awakened on the beachside in hazy repose, we gaze at the transient hues of the horizon sky ‘Sundowning in Blue’, a brief calm before being launched into an unexpected storm of rushing hyper glitch infused mecha-neuro grooves with sweltering sonic waves.  The sultry climate of this track, distinct latin instrumentation and raucously delightful breakdowns are enough to make anyone down their martini, deposit their monocle and commence to get their freak on.

"The phrase ‘Protect Me From What I Want’ comes from a Jenny Holzer piece that has resonated with me for a long time now. I can’t speak to her intent in conceptualizing it, but I always likened it to connecting to another person for safety: having someone who loves you to keep you alive. The idea that one could reach a level of indulgence into something so strong that they need help exercising restraint always frightened me. This ep is about falling in love with someone in that space, and losing yourself trying to fight their demons for them. Co-inhabiting a mutually destructive space alongside someone who’s navigating through a greater turmoil than you’re equipped to deal with, and not being strong enough to pull away when it damages you.

The last track on the ep, ‘I Can’t Live Like This’, is the moment of recognition that existing this way isn’t sustainable. It’s when you finally understand that you cannot heal alongside this person, but leaving their side feels like a betrayal; it’s dooming them to collapse under their own vices without you. Relinquishing that love and still being unable to let go. Within that moment of revelation, the hopelessness can feel infinite.

I don’t occupy that space presently, but I have multiple times in the past, and my lack of insight into how I ever left that space is terrifying to me, because it makes me feel like I don’t know how to avoid returning to it with someone new. It’s a disheartening cycle to be potentially caught in.

Halloween XIII: The End

Not only today is Friday, but today’s podcast IS Friday in itself. And it’s an Asphalt Recs type of Friday, full of distorted amen breaks, doomsday hoovers, raging acid lines, neonesque rave synths, tiger punching kick drums, trance star-gates, ragga muffins and 90’s hip hop medleys, the whole amorphous and androgynous thing being stuffed and blended in a pumpkin on E, and tainted lovely with the dark colors of the long shadows of the deep fall by shitting goblins getting high under no rainbow. 

It is with great pleasure that we hereby announce with this mix a forthcoming collaboration with the one and only @etchofficial, one of the sharpest shooters of today’s scene, a sonic alchemist from which we are longtime followers, at least in the musical sense, as we don’t follow him around creepily disguised in washed out halloween gowns -or do we?-. That would actually be a very breakcore thing to do, but instead, we preferred to ask him to encapsulate the euphoric, fast paced, craziest sound of the entire electronic music in a tightly packed sonic adventure, for you weekend warriors and krusty travelers to grow back your dreadlocks, pack your muggy tents and unchain your pitbulls for a flashback manic remembrance à la Chateau Morton’s, cuvée du 1992. 

Tears in our red eyes came when seeing back together old niche scene mates such as Jason Forrest, Venetian Snares, Shitmat, Bong-Ra, Aaron Spectre (also as Drumcorps) amongst other frequent collaborators of our breakcore bedside bibles like Tigerbeat6, Death$ucker, Ad Noiseam, Ambush, Rephlex etc. Or was it the tear gas from the forthcoming Curtis Yarvin inspired dystopia accelerated by Russian bots that we are living in? Anyways, this music was a premonition of the times to come, and the times now finally came, and breakcore is now more needed than ever. So massive thanks to Etch for putting it back under the spotlight. That is the 180 bpm strobo light flashing under the bed sheets of some worn out e-loving lunatics that is our small and decelerating spotlight.   

Anyways, things are coming from Asphalt involving Etch. But let’s leave that for later. The dystopia too. For now he made a podcast for us which is pretty pretty good as Larry David would say. Life is good. Now It’s Friday. This podcast is too. We are happy. So is hardcore… So let's all take a break, and let’s Drop It like it’s hot -and not because of climate change- to the sound of Breakcore.
