I am a composer, multi-instrumentalist and creative producer based in Newcastle upon Tyne, UK. As a composer and musician, I write a mixture of contemporary classical and neo-folk pieces for stage, film and concert hall and perform as a cellist, pianist, singer and accordionist in a variety of creative settings. 

In 2008 I won the National Centre for Early Music Young Composers Competition for 'Stabat Mater', which was performed by the Tallis Scholars in Beverley Minster. In 2013 I musical directed and arranged Joe Hisaishi's score for an international stage production of Studio Ghibli's film 'Princess Mononoke' that toured to London and Japan. Between 2016-2018 I played with contemporary classical ensemble Aeyther, which resulted in studio album 'Into the Forest' and performances around the country.

My Fantasy for Viola and Orchestra was premiered by the Hull Philharmonic in May 2019, with award-winning soloist Timothy Ridout. In 2020 I collaborated with Lyricist and Songwriter Rosie Bristow to produce full-length musical Rum Punch, which merged traditional musical theatre, folk and contemporary classical music with puppetry, circus and performance. Other previous composition clients include The D Project, Circus Central, Theatre Space NE, Life & Limb Puppets and Woven Nest Theatre. 

Currently I am writing 'Requiem for a Fading World' as one of SageGateshead's Artists in Residence 2022-2023. The Requiem seeks to merge the traditional Latin text with secular, original English lyrics to tell a fantastical, environmentally-themed narrative for modern day audiences.

As a creative producer I am the Artistic Director and Co-Founder of Moving Parts Arts CIO, which produces the biennial Moving Parts: Newcastle Puppetry Festival. Now in its fourth edition, the festival won The Journal Culture Award for 'Best Newcomer' in 2018. 

I am also the Co-Director of Puppets in Beverley Ltd, which produces the award-winning Beverley Puppet Festival founded by Anna Ingleby, and Co-Artistic Director of Tatwood Puppets, which produces touring work featuring puppetry, visual theatre and original soundtracks.

Making Waves is a monthly series of curated playlists streaming one hour of quality, new composed music.  Founded in 2015, Making Waves shines a spotlight on the music of Australian composers. Fresh playlists are released on the first day of each month and older playlists are made available all year round via our archives; perfect for those with just a few minutes to explore one track or for hours perusing a myriad of diverse sound-worlds.


The project offers wider exposure to emerging composers, their music and the talented performers who champion it. We also provide an easy-to-access platform for listeners to sit back and enjoy a curated hour of exciting new music or explore our living composers more actively.  The playlist themes (and media through which they’re shared eg. Soundcloud, YouTube) evolve each month depending on the content received directly from our talented composers.

At its core Making Waves is a curated listening space. In 2016 we branched into producing our own content through a special project, Making Conversation, thanks to a successful crowdfunding campaign. Making Conversation: Australian Composers Project is a series of podcasts and vodcasts presenting the human side of living Australian composers, released on popular audiovisual and social platforms mid-2017.

840 is a London-based concert series curated by composers Alex Nikiporenko and Christian Drew. The series is dedicated to providing a platform for new experimental and minimal music. Each concert focuses on a particular chamber instrumentation, showcasing a diversity of works by living composers. 

840 takes its name from Erik Satie's inscription in Vexations - "In order to play the theme 840 times in succession, it would be advisable to prepare oneself beforehand, and in the deepest silence, by serious immobilities." 

Composer Nicholas Peters co-founded and co-curated the series from 2014 until 2017. Composer James Luff co-curated the series from 2017 until 2020.

I'm a french composer/writer living in Berlin. My music could be described as "electro-orchestral": composed, performed on a Mac, mixing the power of electronic sounds with the emotion and tradition of orchestral stuff (acoustic and virtual instruments). 

Somewhere between Pierre Barbaud, Philip Glass and baroque music...

Born in Scotland and raised in the tropical rainforests of Costa Rica and Honduras, I enjoy adventures both close to home and in far away places. Composers which have inspired me include: Michael Nyman, Ludovico Einaudi, Arvo Pärt, Eric Whitacre, Thomas Newman, Alexandre Desplat, John Williams and Philip Glass. 

I find music can express much more than words alone. Improvising on the piano somehow feels like the most natural way to express my feelings. 

No matter where you are from or what language you speak, music is universal.

Through my endeavours, I have been fortunate enough to have received several music awards including from the EMI Sound Foundation, the Worshipful Company of Leathersellers, the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, Awards for Young Musicians, the Musicians Benevolent Fund, the Walter Bergmann Fund, the North-East of Scotland Music School,  the Robert Nicol Trust, the Dr John Calder Trust and the Cross Trust.
