Mein erstes Buch von ihm war "Die Dunkle Seite des Mondes", ein Buch, das ich nie vergessen konnte und das zu den Büchern zählt, die ich am häufigsten weiterempfehle. Martin Suter schreibt Bücher, mit denen irgendwie jede*r etwas anfangen kann. Manchmal hat man nur eine gute Zeit im Zug – wie bei seinen Allmen-Krimis – und manchmal sind sie etwas für die Ewigkeit, so wie "Die Dunkle Seite des Mondes".

Martin Suter ist an einem Sonntag am 29. Februar 1948 geboren. Ein doppeltes Glückskind also. Bis 1991 arbeitete er als Werbetexter und Creative Director, er schrieb 15 Jahre lang eine extrem erfolgreiche Business-Kolumne, erst mit Mitte 40 traute er sich zu, sich komplett der Schriftstellerei zu widmen. Seine Romane "Small Word", "Lila Lila", "Die Dunkle Seite des Mondes", "Der Koch" und "Elefant" sind international große Erfolge geworden und viele Bücher wurden auch verfilmt.

Wir sprechen per Zoom, zwischen Zürich und Berlin, ausführlich über das Schreiben. Von jemanden, der so viele Bestseller geschrieben hat, wollte ich wissen, wie er das so macht. Herr Suter teilt einige seiner Regeln und Prinzipien. Er erzählt, wie er zu seinen Ideen kommt, wie er Schreibblockaden begegnet und wie er es schafft, so produktiv zu sein. Ich wollte wissen, ob er es bereut, erst so spät mit der Schriftstellerei begonnen zu haben und was sein wiederkehrendes Motiv ist. Wir reden über seinen Pioniergeist, seine verschiedenen Identitäten und über den Moment, wenn das Glück das Glückskind verlässt.
