The Lost World

Recorded using a Burns of London Marquee to give it a nostalgic feel and left rough and ready.

I've recorded this tune many times just for fun. It's always been different; usually rough and ready and often out of time! 
I was playing Scottish Strathspeys on my fiddle when I wrote this and always thought it must have influenced the style of it.
This was an excuse to try out a Fender Cabronita. It's a sexy guitar for sure and I like simple controls - it only has one control knob. I'll reserve judgement on the pickups for a while though.

Strathrea (2017 Very Rough Version)

Hope you enjoy this latest version of a tune I've recorded many times. I used a nice wet harmonic tremolo and my guitar 'Old Shuck'. I was influenced by the laments and Strathspeys of Scottish fiddle music. Particularly James MacPherson's Lament. Not the song but the instrumental. He was a young lad and genius fiddler. He was hanged and played his lament as a last defiant gesture at the gallows. His tune mimics the drones of highland pipes and is perfect in it's double stops etc.  I live by the river Rea so the name is a play on words.

Collaboration with Stricknice. I recently got a Hammond M3 organ and I started this track off on my old Tascam 424 MkII to cassette. Put down some drum machine guide, added in my drum kit, and the Hammond M3 in my garage. Bounced that to my computer while adding delay fx and breaks. Sent that to Stricknice, who hit my back the next day with Bass, guitar & samples added, took that and noticed how it sounded like it could use some skank. So I added the bubble piano/organ sound, some sound effects with my voice with a bunch of reverb, some synth bass. Played the melodica bits, Created a bridge section transferring the cassette bits this time all 3 tracks mixed on the computer with heavy low pass filtering. Then found some Lee Perry interviews that I chopped up and inserted. Sprinkled on some drum hits with delay and plate reverb.

Scratch that Itch (Featuring Stricknice)

I wrote this tune a few years ago when I picked up the guitar again. I’ve come back to it many times and there are a couple of previous versions on my Sound Cloud page. It changes and evolves each time. As with most of the previous versions this is a first take (two tracks) with any flaws or ramblings intact. Hope you enjoy :)

A fun collaboration of a song by Willie Dixon, made when my friend Tanya was in her last days of the 14 day quarantine in a hotel in Tasmania. She recorded some drums and finger cymbals on her phone and we stitched this blues classic together.
