Animix Forty One presented by Austin, Texas based DJ/ Producer Gi Gi ( @keptmale ) with a beautiful trip. The artist focuses on deep and contemplative listening in this xtra long mix.  

In their own words, Gi Gi writes, "the idea for these mixes is to be a collection of longer-form tracks (7+ min) that demand (imo) to be heard front to back, producing a patient wander of a listen, and to serve as a greatest hits of sorts of songs that are especially personal/special to me-- as opposed to just an attempt to show off the deepest digs i've stumbled on (a thought pattern i think i and many other selectors can get caught up in at times..)."

Love the idea behind this mix, and it's the perfect extended listen for a sunny or rainy day wherever you are.

"This mix came up at a great time. After the chaos of recent weeks, and a generally intense few months, I've escaped to Paris to unwind, slow down, and feel a bit more present. My days have been filled with wanderings, drinking tea, and writing under the sun in Park de Belleville. This being said, the mix is more nocturnal in tone, evoking my most tranquil moments: clear nights talking to the moon by a pond near my home in Eccles, lysergic bath times melting into lengthy drone works. There's old and new stuff in there, moody and ethereal bits, zonked out 20+ minute jams. Nothing too jarring, a bit of a rarity for me.” Mike Smaczylo

Origins Soothers 002 - Mike Smaczylo

Soothers #03 is brought to you by Texas-based producer Gi Gi, taking us on a jazz-based journey of skittering rides and cascading woodwinds.

"This one was an exercise in tying together two disparate but interconnected styles: 21st century electronic jazz & a loosely idm-y strain of 90’s downtempo electronic music. The first third or so focuses on the former, the middle bit on the later, & the last section a sort of imprecise blend of the two. I find there’s a parallel in the complexity of the jazz instrumentalists’ performances & the electronic producers’ programming, a virtuosic streak that's balanced with restraint in service of texture & mood. I like how in many of these tracks it’s hard to parse what is organic vs synthetic— a live saxophone recording may be chopped & looped so that it sounds like a sample; likewise, a sample may be smoothed and blended so that you're fooled into thinking it’s a live take. Both of these styles share the sort of tranquil quality you’d associate with “ambient music”, but are (to my ears) a little more engaging or stimulating than your typical static, droning example of the genre due to a heavier emphasis on movement, both rhythmic & melodic. Think of it as a different panel of the ambient umbrella— Active Ambient?”

"I take pleasure in extracting the calm within a song, when it may seem chaotic at first. I adore the subjectivity in each track, I’m not always a fan of the obvious and I want people to put on their voyeuristic hats and worm through these melodies with me. I’ve navigated these past few months by keeping focused on what matters, I’m constantly evolving, growing and learning how to pause and breathe. I’ve found the sweet spot in my relaxation rituals with these songs combined with the help of my plants, as always, to keep me grounded. Origins Soothers 004 - Pasta Kebab

Christian Duka serves us a chill soundtrack of visceral soothing moments for Soothers #05.

"My loved one always says (borrowing from Rick & Morty): “you can’t learn anything until you learn how to chill” - and she’s damn right. Chilling is something I am pretty bad at though. You know, living in London and being slightly enslaved by my passions… but still, there is one place I am able to chill: the space in-between spectral voices, dub-infused grooves and weird & wonderful textures of the likes featured in this cocktail of, personally, very emotional tracks. As I listen, the oomphs and throbs flying out of subwoofers transport me right where stress lives - inside my own body. There, whispering words of comfort to my stiff muscles, I finally take a moment to take care of myself. 

I hope this mix will serve as a soundtrack for many other visceral soothing moments like this - a warm bath, incense and candles are highly recommended :)”

Pascäal serves us a space rock, downtempo soundtrack to help escape daily anxiety for Soothers #06.

"Stress is a funny thing. The more you notice it, the more it envelopes you. Despite multifaceted input mechanisms (it can come from any direction, from any part of your life), it is nearly impossible to divide into buckets and it piles onto itself, overflowing. I allow myself to escape from daily anxiety during periods of transition: the day's beginning and the day's end. This mix is a collection of songs that I use to help me shift my focus from post-dream-early-morning-internal-reality to the day's stress-laden list of to-dos. I hope the listener finds functionality in these songs as well :) <3”

Discovering last year’s Hysterical Love Project’s self-released debut album “Endless Bliss Weekender” was a personal highlight. Resulting in a release on Knekelhuis as Ike Zwanikken at the ‘and felt like...’ compilation. Hysterical Love Project is the project from the love couple Brooklyn & Ike. In which they craftfully compose a refreshing modern take on the slow sensual realm of Triphop, Ambient and hazy shoegaze. 

They will release their first physical album soon on the amazing label Motion Ward. And there is an unreleased upcoming track in here. Bliss.

miscmeg's sensitive take on electronic music just hits. the. spot. Having made a name for herself as a versatile selector, as suited to a club setting and those moments of total energetic release, as periods of reflection and stillness. It's the latter she has compiled in this mix, originally recorded at Hope St Radio in Naarm.

One of the founders of https://soundcloud.com/vortexvortexvortex and its associated skylab show, miscmeg is a major contributor to Naarm's scene, effortlessly adding an essential dimension, rooted in emotional dance music. 

With a 90s flavour, this mix meanders through sugarcoated, glistening downtempo, occasionally plunging into destabilising slow burns. miscmeg's ear for downtempo is on full show here, pausing for darker, dub-inflicted haziness and moments of melancholy before erupting shining light, love and red-hot desire. 

miscmeg, with what seems like a knowing wink, sprinkles breadcrumbs for us to follow, each moment a fragile, expanding, crystallising and, soon, razor sharp declaration of self-worth. She's a pro and we can't thank her enough : --)
