As he entered the room onlookers watched him with beady eyes, they stared him down and took him in with menace and malice lingering in the air. This was not a safe space, not a place one might choose to spend much time or be caught lingering. However, whilst he was here he would not fear their hateful gaze for this was to be where he left it all behind as free as a bird. He was in step mode now, eagerly walking forwards into the light and as he stood perched in the centre of the room he began to move. 

Glimmerman is set to release a new EP on First Second Label, this one is a rock steady affair for the heads down dancers and the discerning listener. This record sits somewhere between bass, techno and dancehall - so genre that as you feel fit.

Following the success of our sold out inaugural release, we can't wait to (finally) present our second vinyl release, Farr’s Wide Eye. 

With Farr’s Bassline Interferometry becoming synonymous with the success of the first release, it only felt right to invite him back for his first full vinyl release, joined by Canadian artist, Ciel, on remix duties. For Wide Eye, the Vienna-based artist sets out on three new dancefloor excursions, each featuring his customary delicate melodies and complex percussion, whilst scouring different corners of the club music continuum. 

The release starts with title-track Wide Eye, a deep piece of post-grime club bass which weaves a moody atmosphere between spacious vocals and rattling percussion, wrapped a menacing acid line which cuts through the space to create a claustrophobic finish.  

Reticle is a full-throttle club workout where warped bass, gunshots, rewinds, and rave-tinged vocals are all on the table, nestled amongst relentless percussive work, bouncing between razor sharp two-step, speed garage and dubstep sequencing. A tool for full dancefloor destruction. 

Give Me Shelter takes a step away from the weightier side of things, showcasing how easily Farr’s customary rhythmic programming and sound design can be applied to a myriad of different genres. A delicate melody and deliciously colourful bassline are joined by a hypnotic vocal sample and intricate synth work to create a slice of euphoria, ready for club or afters alike.   

Ciel has become known for her musical storytelling, and she rounds off the release in usual style with the Give Me Shelter ‘Safe Harbour’ mix. A cheeky irresistible lead melody and Balearic style percussion coalesce with airy synths to leave a sweet taste in the mouth.

Almost a year in the making, with various set backs and hurdles, we can't wait to finally share this with you. Vinyl dropping on 29th April.

Toma Kami returns to Livity Sound for a third EP of provocative, experimental club gear. At the helm of his own Man Band label the French producer continues to explore a hybridised style which favours fractured beats, playful samples and occasional psychedelic flourishes.

Compared to the busier sound of previous releases, minimalism informs Toma’s approach on LIVITY053 as he sits his crunchy drums and weighty low-end in a tangibly spacious mix on ‘Amapicante’. Even within a stripped-down context, his unique approach shines through as ‘Later To The Bone’ progressively ramps up in scratched and scuffed sonic interference and ‘Mzecal’ trips over its own fragmented found-sound drum formations.

Livity Sound is a label set up by Peverelist in 2011 as a vehicle for a raw and exploratory strain of UK techno, rooted in the heritage of UK dance music and sound system culture. It has since become one of the UK's foremost protagonists for cutting edge underground electronic music.

Brighton native via Bristol, Syz is an artist, DJ and co-founder of events conglomerate Method Lab. Having released on labels such as Pressure Dome and Only Ruins, Syz’s musical palette has dissected inspiration from all avenues of UK bass-driven dance music.

Drawing on a diverse range of touchpoints from across the spectrum of UK club music, his latest EP for Control Freak is no different, encompassing precision-engineered soundsystem techno, mutant 2-step and West Country bass.

Wrapping things up, Pressure Dome founder Yushh returns to Control Freak with her own flip of title track Bunzunkunzun, bringing down the BPM for a menacing rework that’s punctuated by her signature wonky rhythms.

Very strictly limited vinyl release for these essential DJ weapons - get them while they’re hot!

PREMIERE: Syz - Bunzunkunzun (Yushh's Droop Mix) [Control Freak]

Scuffed Recordings line up the fifth release in the Scuffed Presents compilation series, looking ahead to 2021 with four new artists to the label, and sounds ranging from broken bass, UK garage, rave-inspired breaks, and rolling techno.

Opening the release is Austrian producer @awo_ojiji, a longstanding member of the Graz-based collective Disko404 who released his debut ‘Static Flow’ EP in 2020 on Eternal Ocean. His unique interpretation of broken, bass-led techno on ‘Woozy’ marks him out as an artist to watch in 2021.
