It begins with the black snow laying heavy on the cold ground. The apocalypse and what comes after.

With this song, Orochen sets the tone for a global disaster. While volcanoes spew ash over everything that was once hospitable, the apocalypse is welcomed with heavy riffing, thunderous toms and lyrics dripping with grief and loss. On top of  the rhythmical, bass-driven tsunami that ascends the vocals offers the same calm, and stoic expression that you'd expect from alternative metal masters such as Deftones or Swedish Cult of Luna sibilling Khoma.

Black Snow

Can you Imagine a post-acopalyptic desert with tumbleweed rolling over wast open landscapes - and in the only saloon the piano is changed to down-tuned acoustic guitars with lyrics that actually moves you? Then you probably heard Iron Gates, the second singel of Anthroposcenic.

Joined by Jonas Stålhammar (At the Gates, Lurking Fear, ex Crippled Black Phoenix) Orochen brings the tempo down and paints the bigger picture. Iron Gates is derived from the corona lockdown in 2020 where people were isolated in their homes and mental illness was a growing fact throughout society. It tries to comprehend where the darkness comes from and how to avoid it.

Working together with vocalist and lyricist Nine from the finest of nordic black metal outfits, Wormwood, Orochen presents Convalescense. An unholy alliance of black metal, post rock and bone crushing heaviness to meditate on the world we live in and what might come after.

Quote Nine: "I wanted to invoke both hopelessness and hope by stating that religion still has a tight grip over people, but that we can break free and rise from its clutch. Spiritlight divine."

House Of Bones

The Gothenburg-based band Orochen releases the first single, Teeth of Glass, from their debut album, Anthroposcenic, together with Suicide Records. Available on all digital platforms, March 11, 2022.

Teeth of Glass is a haunting track that clearly showcases the evolution of Orochen’s sound from previous releases Thylacine (Suicide Records), Mechanical Eyes and the S/T debut EP. With its poetic and suggestive lyrics together with the recognizable blend of dark folk and post-rock, Teeth of Glass is a great example of the creative direction set for Anthroposcenic.

"A different sun" is an instrumental song for fans of Explosions in the Sky, If These Trees Could Talk or Red Sparowes. An ambient, guitar driven slow burner that takes a grip on the damage that man and his greedy need for energy has caused the planet. How the sun, which has always been worshiped for the warmth and life it brings, is suddenly perceived as something threatening. Mercilessly warming, drying and burning the planet out.

Cause you say it best when you say nothing at all.

A Different Sun

It is said that the last song at a concert is the one that accompanies the listener home. If the same goes for a rock album, Orochen has really outdone themselves with this one.

A suggestive and dark journey down into the hostile realm of the rat king, where intertwined animals parasitize themselves, fighting for survival in the dirt.

Winding guitars, pulsating synths and apocalyptic choirs ends Anthroposcenic with one of the most memorable and thoughtful choruses on the record. Without a doubt a promising hint of what you can expect to come next. As the song concludes the album, the rats continue to squeak.
