When you put one of John Barera and Will Martin's records on, you're immediately hit by the bags of emotional warmth and the optimistic spirit that sing through the Boston born pair's collaborative output. Impossible to pin down, it just feels like there's a certain type of magic that happens when the pair combine in the studio and plenty of others would seemingly agree with that sentiment, including one of house music's greatest talents, Steffi, who has backed them aplenty. Featuring one of Barera and Martin’s tracks on her Panorama Bar mix she’s also provided a home to their productions, including their critically lauded LP, Graceless, on her Dolly. 

Currently touring and riding high off the success of the LP their set to land in Room Three as part of a showcase with a UK party they feel a certain synergy with: Just Jack. Here in this mix, the duo show exactly us what happens when they get behind the decks together, interspersing muted house tones with prime vintage EBM and disco.

Freaks, geeks & party people. A long time ago (7, 8 years?), in a studio far far away (Studio 80) before there was thought of RLR, mr (then actually) Young Marco & myself used to do a weekly radio show for years in row, every Thursday evening, called Weird Science. In the studio Hugo came to visit and the first steps for Red Light Radio were made. Now, RLR is almost 5 years so one more time Marco & me joined jams in a one off epic episode of WEIRD SCIENCE....

We like to ask some of our upcoming artists to give us a sonic indication of where they are at currently, because, well... we like to know where they are at currently. Whether that be in the form of a self curated playlist of their most favourite club cuts as of late, a snippet of forthcoming material or, if we're lucky enough, a new and exclusive mix, what each artist offers up is a insight into their current motivations. Breach is one artist who we feel we ought to catch up with every time he heads to Farringdon. Typically known for his playful, party-minded sound, his persuasions regularly take on new forms, so to better understand what we can expect from him is as exciting for us as it is for those of you attending the dance he'll be playing at this Friday night.

"I recorded this on vinyl at my home in Amsterdam overlooking the canals;" Breach offers of the mix. "It represents where I’m at musically at the moment. It's kind of eclectic, and I feel like that's a reflection on my time here in Amsterdam as that's what the music scene here is all about. I have learned about so many great records through the people in the scene and the clubs here. Living pretty much above Rush Hour Records has been wonderful and also being close to Redlight Records where you can find the most amazing music, something that makes me very happy. I enjoyed putting this mix together very much."

Model Melt - Fuzzbox (Original Mix)

The Robert Johnson club near Frankfurt has never shied away from issuing a healthy dose of electronic pioneering. Here, DJ listings were not made publicly known until two years ago, with the intent that there may be no cherry-picking of venues. Here, Matthew Herbert did his “One Club” recordings a while before the Berghain ventured on a similar project. You may even regard their “Live At Robert Johnson” mix series as a high-brow concept, but in the end it comes down to just one thing: great music. Label manager and resident DJ Oliver Hafenbauer is known for his subtly-building house sets, but in his mix for Roof.fm he betrays a strong liking for classic electro. Did we say classic? Futuristic is probably more the case. A good thing to start 2011 anyway. We threw a handful of questions at Oliver, check it out at our site. Happy new year to all of you!
