Welcome to the inaugural edition of INI's 13 Mooncycle Mix.

The idea of the 13 Mooncycle Mix is based on the natural time phenomenon. Within the system of natural time, it takes the moon 28 days to orbit the Earth; it makes this orbit 13 times each year. Each of the 13 moons possess unique characteristics, the purpose of then of the 13 Mooncycle Mix is to use each moon as an inspiration. Come each 28th day, INI invites an artist to curate a mix for the new moon, giving them total creative freedom to interpret, signal or share whatever they so desire to as homage to uniques of each moon.

For the first instalment, we asked a friend of the movement, the serial ethnomusicologist, El Buho, to do his thing. Boy, he sure did his thing. 
The idea behind this mix is based on concept of 'fluidity'. With this in mind, El Buho has curated a flowing piece of music bathed in moonlight, fit for a dark, mysterious evening filled with hooting owls, swaying trees and tribal rhythms to dance around the fire. 

The mix features new music, original edits, remixes and exclusives from El Búho, Simon Díaz, Captain Planet, Sidirum, JWCM, Caetano Veloso, Nicola Cruz, Acid Pauli, Lulacruza, Blocktreat, Barrio Lindo, Populous, Chancha Via Circuito, Ouska, Thomash, Dunwich, Puelche, Tremor and more.

El Buho’s mix is fine blend of earthy, atmospheric, dreamy and melodic Latin American folk mixed with rhythmic driven tracks beside birdsong inspired electronica.

Today's premiere comes on Lost Palms, a side imprint from underground stalwart @shallnotfade. Lost Palms is set to release "Goin Good," an EP by Salt Mines co-founder and lo-fi techno practitioner @Rudolf-C --- and, true to the imprint's name, it sounds literally as if it's aimlessly wandering a beautiful desert island, with nothing more than the sun in it's face and the breeze in its hair.

The cut is "Da Mind Da Body Da Soul", the A1 on this project. Dusty snares and halcyon pads fill the spectrum as the track begins to gather steam, slowly sprinkling in low-end pulses and flutters of a vocal sample that help give the cut it's overarching shape. After a short breakdown that makes room for a pummelling bass line and crisp hats, the full presence returns to soak listeners in a truly balmy, and stomping affair.

Tracks like this don't necessarily carry the weight to bring the house down at peak time; on the contrary, it's the type of tune that can catalyze a dance floor early on to move away from the stresses of daily life, and to pivot fully into the aural journey ahead. This one is without question for da mind, da body, and da soul.

"It's a family affair" comme disait la chanson. Bah justement là on ne peut pas mieux l'illustrer.

Vous les côtoyez depuis 2013 sur les ondes du Mellotron mais si vous êtes un vrai titi parisien, un habitué des brocantes/disquaires, un squatteur de trottoir ou encore un passionné de hip-hop, vous avez peut-être déjà croisé les Frères Pastor sur le bitume de la capitale avant ça.

Après des années à écumer des fichiers wav, des sillons de wax et produit une bonne poignée de skeuds incontournables, ils se lancent enfin dans leur premier album. Pas une mince affaire que de choisir les bons titres, la bonne pochette, quelques cobayes sont restés sur la route mais pour nous livrer un résultat flamboyant à l'image de leurs références musicales ô combien élargies avec les années.

De la musique latine au hip-hop, de la scène beat au reggae il n'y a qu'un pas que les frérots n'ont aucun mal à franchir. Dès le 7 juillet, sur Bandcamp, sortira donc l'album Hermanos. Dix titres soignés et agrémentés de trois remixes de leurs proches Al Quetz, Somepling et Elaquent.

Aujourd'hui Le Mellotron n'est pas peu fier de vous livrer en exclusivité intersidérale le titre "Sea Side Boogie", l'un des single marquant de ce LP où l'on peut entendre la guitare de MarOne et les synthés vintage de Amadeao85 (Beers & Records).
