August has a reputation for being a quiet month. Festivals drain attention, artists vanish, and releases get pushed to September. But this year proved again that less can mean more. Quality over quantity. The few records that did arrive carried enough depth and character to linger.

Sciama’s debut on Samurai Music was a pure craft effort: halftime drum & bass dialed in with surgical focus, a match made in heaven. DYL and Tammo Hesselink found strange pockets of groove on Aura Sonora, flipping pace and rhythm without ever losing drive. Hong Kong’s Bionickle made its entrance with Insomnior, a four-track polyrhythmic workout that announced the label’s intent straight away.

Elsewhere, Jan Jelinek and Mads Emil Nielsen traded roles as remixers of each other’s work, turning in two abstract, inward-facing studies that feel more like sonic essays than tracks. Laima Adelaide delivered her most mature vision yet on Predawn Records, while Stone’s eclectic, trip hop–anchored album nods to the early ‘00s while sounding entirely timeless.
 
On the lighter side, Angel Hunt’s Short Span release danced between breakbeat and ambient with an easy hand. LFOkid’s Huinali outing paired deep-ambient sketches with remixes from familiar names close to our orbit. Skee Mask kept his streak alive with another self-released labyrinth that refuses categorization. And Aniara brought out heavy artillery, Skudge and Dorisburg together, for one of those records destined to stay in DJ bags for months to come.

Their Moire Patterns EP kicks off with 'Pattern 1', a deep and rhythmic slice of rubbery techno that rides broken beats with atmospheric pulses up top. 'Pattern 2 slows down to a predatory crawl with icy pads making  a dystopian vibe then 'Pattern 3' brings a sense of mystic tribal ritual deep in some futuristic jungle and 'Pattern 4' closes down with more fantastically crafted, dubby, broken rhythms that are topped with organic percussion and almost impossible not to move to. With a steely sound matching fathoms-deep echo chambers with metallic textures and precision drums, Sciama arrives on Samurai Music to press into the inspiring hinterland between techno and drum & bass.

Sciama is the production alias for Michael Watters, a producer who since 2019 has carved out a formidable reputation across a stellar run of releases on ASC’s Auxiliary label. While his music references UK bass, transcendental techno and industrial, the end result is a taut, focused journey through fractured, weighty rhythms and vast, ranging atmospherics tilted towards the darkness.

Between Veils is testament to Watters’ refined production, steeped in intensely detailed and layered sound design in constant fluid motion, whether locked to the grid or shifting across the surface of the track like grayscale snow drifts. Electronic musician and guitarist, Sun Dawei is a very active composer in China. He started learning guitar at the age of fourteen, and later formed a punk band, which became the catalyst for him to open the door to music. Settled in Beijing in 1999, then began research and creation of electronic music, and at the same time began to dabble in Fashion Show, film, drama and commercial soundtrack work. After several transformations, in order to explore different music spaces. He announced a new musician project - CTAFAD.
In 2020, "Vertical Horizontal" was published on "Shanshui Music". In this album, you can hear "the original sound without too much modification, the sense of space like the atmosphere, and the ambitious ultrasonic experiment. In the end, an epic The core sound field has been carefully polished. The rhythm and bass line are proficient in interaction from the beginning, gradually unfolding and never extinguishing." In the subsequent release of "Vertical Horizontal Extended" and other EP albums, CTAFAD invited Claudio PRC, Blazej Malinowski, Atomic Moog, Polygonia, Laertes and IORI participated in the remix of the album.
A new music-making journey is driven by inner passion and exploration, collaboration and development. Slowly began to emerge in many foreign Techno labels. Such as: Sungate, Indefinite Pitch, Oslated, Secuencias Temporales和Melifera. At the same time, he also created a new music label "GSXS" - mind in thought, full vision.

It's How I Suffocate

Under the full moon’s silver gaze, a tribe gathers to awaken the ancient pulse. As their ritual unfolds a portal opens, spiraling into hypnotic rhythm and luminous trance. Guided by Avsluta, the dance deepens, sound shapes presence and time dissolves into iridescent echoes.

Avsluta is a London-based sound artist, DJ, live performer, and event curator navigating the liminal spaces between ambient and dance music. As a DJ and producer, her work navigates both listening and dance realms, fluidly moving in between chill-out rooms, clubs and festival dancefloors. Tuning into the energy of the people and spaces, her performances are fuelled by dialog, intuition and improvisation, drawing on influences across deep techno, psychedelic bass music, dub, downtempo and a broad spectrum of ambient music. Avsluta is a resident of Above Below festival and made appearances at the likes of La Nature, O.Z.O.R.A., Mostra, Lunchmeat Festival, Waking Life, Ankali and Cafe OTO among other. She is also the founder of Introspective Electronics, an ambient and downtempo platform that hosts regular radio shows, guest podcast series, and intimate listening events.

Avsluta's mix for this edition is a tribute to tribalistic rhythms that unfold a hypnotic appeal of immense, ritualistic power. Combined with massive, moving basslines and trippy, headstrong toppings, this piece is a very special sonic treat that will draw you deep into the cosmic vortex.

Dynamic Spheres #032 - Avsluta

Re-Hash is the 1st track on the Gorillaz' 2001 album Gorillaz. It is described in the Rise of the Ogre as 'a gloriously upbeat opener to the album'.

The song was written by 2D and Murdoc. Murdoc wrote random phrases on magnets and 2D threw them at a frigde. They kept whatever phrases stuck in the refrigerator. 2D was coached by Damon Albarn to sing more confidently in this track and, as stated by Russel, 'lose the thin reedy sound of the early rehearsals'. Backing vocals were provided by Noodle as well as Cibo Matto's Miho Hatori. For the bass sound, Murdoc placed his amp underwater, in a fish tank on the floor above. Then they held a microphone up to the ceiling below and recorded the bassline. As he stated, that's why the bass in Re-Hash is 'all muffled and well dubby'. 2D added a broken sitar sound to the track to give it that 'extra dash of weirdness'.

Re-Hash

5/4 is the second track in the Gorillaz' 2001 album Gorillaz. The title is a reference to the time signature of the song. 

It was originally intended to be a single with a corresponding video, but was replaced with 19-2000. However a storyboard version is available for viewing on YouTube.

Inhmost is one of the monikers of S.Huxtable who wanted a representation for the more ambient and downtempo works that he creates which would allow the freedom of expression within these genres.

The goal of the Inhmost sound is to blend deep atmospheric feelings and organic nature that combine into a dreamlike state of mind that come straight from the heart.  The intention is that whilst listening to the music the listener is transported to calmer places of beauty and of light and shade.

Inhmost 는 앰비언트와 다운템포의 장르적 범주에서 자유로운 표현을 지향하는 S.Huxtable 의 또 다른 이름이다. Inhmost 사운드의 목적은 깊은 대기적 감정들과 유기적 자연을 섞어내어 마음에서 우러나오는 꿈과도 같은 정신으로 결합하는 것이다. 
그 의도는 음악을 듣는동안 청자들이 아름다움, 그리고 빛과 어둠의 고요한 공간으로 이동하기를 위한 것이다.
