Zooid is a biological term referring to a unit or individual that possesses independent functions as part of a multicellular organism, while also functioning as a component of the whole.

In colonial organisms (colonial animals), a single individual as a whole is composed of multiple zooids. These zooids are closely connected to each other and function collectively as if they were a single organism.
