From the need to contribute and relieve a little the social and economic problem that is currently being experienced in the country due to the emergency of COVID-19, From a Lost Place has brought together local and international artists who have joined the cause to, through music, try to help the most vulnerable. 100% of the money raised on Bandcamp will be donated in two parts: One for Santa Cruz del Islote, an artificial island located in the San Bernardo archipelago (Colombia) and considered one of the most populated islands in the world, which It sustains itself economically through tourism and now finds itself with a lack of food and medicine supplies. The other part will go to the Fundación Rediseñándonos, located in Bogotá and whose initiative is the reintegration of vulnerable people and street dwellers through weaving and clothing. Right now and due to the current situation, this home needs to stock up on food and raw materials to continue working for those who need it.

A partir de la necesidad de contribuir y aliviar un poco el problema social y económico que se está viviendo actualmente en Colombia debido a la emergencia del COVID-19, From a Lost Place ha reunido artistas locales e internacionales que se han sumado a la causa para, a través de la música, tratar de ayudar a los más vulnerables. El 100% del dinero recaudado en Bandcamp será donado en dos partes: Una para Santa Cruz del Islote, una isla artificial ubicada en el archipiélago de San Bernardo y considerada una de las islas más pobladas del mundo, la cual se sostiene económicamente por el turismo y ahora se encuentra con falta de abastecimiento de comida y medicamentos. La otra parte se destinará a la Fundación Rediseñándonos, ubicada en Bogotá (COL) y que tiene como iniciativa la reinserción de personas vulnerables y habitantes de calle por medio del tejido y la confección. Ahora mismo y debido a la situación actual, este hogar necesita abastecerse de alimentos y materia prima para continuar trabajando en pro de quienes lo necesitan.

Some time ago I gifted my Mom, who has to look out for herself more than others due to the pandemic, with an iPad. This tablet has served me well over the years in the studio, on stage, on the road, while waiting for a show, and sometimes after shows, as well as during countless jam sessions with other artists. The iPad has functioned both as an instrument, and as a MIDI controller, and as a sequencer controlling a modular synthesizer, and as a sketchbook sketcher, etc. A lot of music has been created with this tool - all because of the touch interface, which I feel opens up a unique connection between the digital world and the analog world. However, I felt it was time to share this device in order to open up a bit of the world to a parent who has been home for many months.

As I gave my iPad to Mom, the need arose to purchase another iPad. The pandemic drains the wallet quite effectively, so I chose a used, slightly older model. However, I managed to buy a tablet in perfect, like-new condition, which confirms that it's worth buying used equipment... maybe it helps relieve our planet at least a little. 

After a month of searching for a new device I felt that I am finally back to regular music work - the tablet allows me to control the studio in a completely unique, one of a kind way with which I feel a full connection. So it was time to restore the backup of the previous iPad I had given away, and get it back in working order. 

What does it turn out, though? After many attempts, a message appears: "Unable to restore iPad because an error occurred". I've searched half the internet for a solution, consulted magicians who help fix corrupted archives. And nothing. 

Gone were the years of work on projects that accompanied me during countless live acts, gone were the drafts of songs I'd been working on over the past months, gone were a ton of unique samples I'd recorded while in all sorts of places I'd visited, giving concerts or working with other musicians... Finally, I also lost some wonderful applications which are no longer available. With the broken backup, the ephemeral nature of (digital) reality was on full display, a form to which one shouldn't get attached too much. 

While this event froze the blood in my veins at first, I feel that it can be a refreshing, uplifting and enlightening event. It's time to start working with familiar environments and familiar instruments, as well as those I'm just getting to know, all over again.

So I thought I would share with you a recording that was made in this no longer existing environment as the last one, which was supposed to be still polished, refined, but from which the trace was lost, whose sounds were lost and whose tracks evaporated irretrievably. The only thing that remained was the form played live during one of the studio sessions. 

I recorded the whole thing using samples that I had recorded while eavesdropping on a rehearsal of a trumpeter whose intensive work prevented me from being in the studio. He played beautifully, though so loudly that all I could do was turn off my equipment and speakers to turn myself into a listener. Then a recording of a few seconds was transformed in a million ways into what you hear. 

May this piece serve you well. Maybe there will be some use for it.
