Next up on the FMB Mixtape series is a mix from Berlin duo DJ Heartstring. As usual, we fired some questions over to find out a bit about the mix & what they’ve been up to recently…

In the past months touring has probably been the biggest part of our daily life. Even though it can be exhausting from time to time, playing all around Europe has been amazing. Apart from playing we have been using every chance we get to go to the studio to make music and process everything that has happened this year.

We recorded the mix at home. It is definitely a different feeling from playing at a club or a festival. But we still had a good time selecting tracks and making sure that we are happy with the result.

With this mix we wanted to showcase a different approach to our sound. We definitely play more Hardgroove and Tribal inspired music in this one, sprinkled with a healthy dose of unreleased material by us and our friends. The mix demonstrates pretty well what we sound like right now when we are playing – more ravey and more impulsive.

Der Spielkamerad aka Bonzo (ehemals Spielkameraden) bringt euch die volle Ladung Trash, Trance und Atzenpower. 
Der Gründer, der Halbtrocken Exclusive Crew ist seit neuestem Solo unterwegs, was ihn nun zu neuen Höchstleistungen hinterm Pult treibt. Sein Sound bewegt sich irgendwo zwischen Trance, Electro & Groove gepaart mit der vollen Breitseite Edits.
Bonzo ist größtenteils in der Berliner Clublandschaft unterwegs und zieht auch daraus seine Inspiration, mittlerweile hat er schon in Clubs wie dem Kater Blau, Suicide Circus oder im Humboldthain die Floors zum kochen gebracht. Viel Spaß mit volle Bude Atzentrance....und loooooooos! 🍾❤️

Hard Summer-Mix '23 by Jane Muss

Another live recording from the Reclaim Your City X Token night in early November and this one‘s a banger. Marcal is the budding Brazilian star act you may have heard of, commanding recognition post pandemic with his highly addictive loops. That’s certainly true in the case of Radio Slave, who played one of the former’s tracks on his show for Rinse FM and sought out the talent responsible. A serendipitous (online) meeting that blossomed into a deeper connection and had Marcal signed to Rekids, Enemy Records and Token. And here they are a little down the line and all the luckier for it. Marcal’s focus is on intelligent and minimal builds, those that work by way of rhythmic complexity and highly developed textures, brainy techno with a pinch of mischief. Bassiani Podcast 192 is a prime example of that formula in action, a two hour dose of the finest cuts and hardest basslines recorded live on the Bassiani floor.

A rising name in Berlin’s ever crowded pool of talents, Eerste Communie resident Windfuhr has been developing his own idiosyncratic persona at the junction of heavy-traction 4x4 rhythms and deep, hypnotic folds of intricate melodies and exotica-laced electronics. Minimal in essence but maximal in effect, his compositions bridge the gap between stripped-back functionality and dreamy escapology, neatly coordinating the throbbing cavalcade of racy uptempo machine funk with layered, modular-like transmissions as his feverish drum programming leads the charge. No doubt Windfuhr’s name is one you’ll hear a lot more in 2024.
