Tribute to New York City. 

Saying goodbye to New York was very hard for me. This is undoubtedly a painful process. I went through this when I left my homeland 6 years ago. At first it drains you. Then you take all your hands and gradually fill life with new meaning, because time heals.

On Thanksgiving, I wanted to record something special to express my gratitude to New York, the city that taught me so much and to send a message to all the amazing, kind, responsive and incredibly talented people I met there, to those who became my friends, to everyone who shared a piece of themselves with me. In this music - you, me, all of us.

RUSTAM OSPANOFF - SPECIAL HOUSE MIX FOR SOHO RADIO (JAZZYSTAN | MARCH 9TH 2024)

For the last 10 years I’ve been releasing this project exploring music that evokes spirituality and a connection to nature. Spiritual music that isn’t necessarily religious in nature and also has a wide musical lens, beyond spiritual jazz or gospel for example.

Spring in my hometown of Montreal always arrives at least 4 weeks later than almost anywhere in the world. And because of our long grueling winters, when springtime arrives in the city you can feel the effect on everyone’s collective mood. There’s a certain indescribable electricity in the air.

This project is dedicated to my mom.

Rustam is well known for his long 6-8 hrs vinyl sets in New York City. He was a resident DJ at Public Records, Virgin Hotel, Ace Hotel NY & Brooklyn, Lilli Star at Moxy Brooklyn Hotel, Izzy Rose, Studio 151, Nublu, Record Room. He also played records at some of the most important NYC venues like Nowadays, Elsewhere, Jupiter Disco, Le Bain, Black Flamingo, Magick City, Milagrosa, Good Bar, including regular DJ sets at Brooklyn Museum and Rockefeller Center.

He is best known for being the founder of Jazzystan Music Festival (this ran from 2009 in Almaty, Kazakhstan) in his home country.
