The half-Spaniard, half-Nicaraguan Tenor began his studies of the voice in his native New Orleans, Louisiana at Loyola University and later in Miami, Fl at New World School of the Arts. Gerardo’s stage credits include Parpignol in La Boheme and Dombé in Lakmé with the Florida Grand Opera, Vendittori in Il Tabarro with the Lyric Orchestra of Fort Lauderdale, and Tamino in The Magic Flute with the Riuniti Opera. As of the last year, Mr. Ortega has organized fundraisers featuring classical music benefitting the homeless community of Miami, Breast Cancer Research, and HIV/AIDS Awareness and Research.
Currently Gerardo is the resident voice instructor at the Miami Dance and Music Academy and a part of the Music Ministry at the First United Methodist Church of Miami. He is under the direct tutelage of critically acclaimed voice teacher Professor Manny Perez.
Gerardo’s most recent appearances include singing in the “Ponce de Leon 500th Anniversary Celebration Concert,” singing alongside acclaimed Soprano Marinel Cruz in “De España Vengo: An Evening of Zarzuela,” and a regular performer for Temple Beth Am’s Spring Opera Concert Series. Mr. Ortega has been invited to compete in Marcello Giordanni’s Vocal Competition and Monserrat Caballé’s Vocal Competition.

The Strypes are 4-piece rhythm and blues band hailing from Cavan, Ireland, formed in 2011 by Ross Farrelly (lead vocals/harmonica), Josh McClorey (lead guitar/vocals), Pete O'Hanlon (bass guitar/harmonica) and Evan Walsh (drums).

The group has spent the past 18 months launching their explosive R&B assault on the clubs and festivals of Ireland, the UK and Europe, viciously hammering out a no-nonsense blues repertoire drawing from the songbooks of Chuck Berry, Bo Diddley, Howlin' Wolf, Little Walter, Slim Harpo and more with the passion and venom of British blues groups such as Dr. Feelgood, The Yardbirds, The Rolling Stones and The Animals. 

Having already been met with critical acclaim from greats such as Jeff Beck and Paul Weller and been tipped by NME as the No. 1 new band to watch, it seems things can only get better for The Strypes.
