I sometimes sit and wonder what in this world is even real. Struck in awe by the thought that there are billions of other people that may feel the exact same way as I do. While I find this interesting, they might not even think about it. 
The multitude of stories I’ll never get to hear - makes me think about the significance we humans have in the universe. 
Is it all just a facade we put on as a coping mechanism in wrath of a higher being?

Stay is a dynamic album with influences spanning from Acid House (Fearless), to Italo Disco (Pepper), to 90s Warp Records (Loved You). On Stay, Joseph Ashworth presents a focused and considered body of work that displays a wealth of growth from his last full-length release Grain, released in 2015.

The original intention wasn't to record a full-length album. An opportunity arose to create an AI project (AIMI) where elements of his unreleased work would be re-interpreted by machine learning to generate an ever-evolving music experience. This inspired Joseph to bring together years' worth of music for listeners interested in the cutting edge of technology, but also reminded Joseph of his love of the traditional 'album' format. So throughout 2021, and with less travel, Joseph created 10 tracks and meticulously edited and arranged them into a fluid, engaging listening experience.

Joseph comments, "Stay is the connection of ten tracks I started over the past five years. Time and patience were key in the recording process, with an aim to make each track as unique and emotionally vivid as possible".

The first track Kings, revolves around melancholy piano chords, propped up by crisp percussion and rich swells of string and synth pads - it outlines the album’s ambitious level of experimentation from the get-go. Then there’s the disco-tinged and synth-laden Fearless, while Carbonated leans towards techno; a flowing staccato synth line and a swampy, deep bass, which offers a stark contrast to the beautiful stripped back ambient track that follows, Dressed Up.

The first single to be released from the LP, Pepper breaches full club-pumper territory, with an Italo-esque synth lead, chunky, forceful kicks and a chugging bassline. Loved You features metallic chords and an alien vocal that guides the listener through a rich sonic landscape and is reminiscent of the works of Aphex Twin and Squarepusher. It’s another landmark long player from one of electronic music’s most interesting talents.

Stay takes the listener on a deep and stimulating journey, and although each of the tracks could hold their own as individuals, the album as a whole is lovingly crafted, expertly sequenced and could only be achieved by an artist with a true passion for their music.

Joseph Ashworth’s highly acclaimed releases on Life & Death, Get Weird, Pets, ELEMENTS, and Needwant have helped him grow a reputable fanbase on both sides of the Atlantic, receiving support from all corners of the electronic music scene including Lee Burridge, Jonas Rathsman, DJ Tennis, Patrice Baumel, Kolsch and many more. As a performer Joseph is a unique, exciting and versatile DJ which has seen him play extended sets at the likes of CRSSD Festival and Printworks as well tours of the Far East and North America.

Next up on Exotic Refreshment we welcome estimua, a Germany-based producer. The title track "Morning Sun" gives people the impression of waking up early in the morning after a good and fulfilling sleep, somewhere in India. It's spring time, the sun is rising, you can hear birds chirping outside everywhere. Although this is the general atmosphere, the lush and atmospheric sitar, the chopped vocals, marble sounds and a subtle touch of tabla are adding a rather darker and hypnotic vibe to the track. 

"Flug der Manukoden" has been created for [kɔlatəˈʁaːl] (Kollateral) playground (https://soundcloud.com/kol-la-te-ral), where they chose a new theme every two months. In that period of time, every artist can contribute whatever they want to that theme. Trying something new and different is always welcomed and greatly appreciated. The idea behind the theme of "Flug der Manukoden" was pointing out that time when you turn on the TV with family or friends to relax and watch something entertaining, escaping reality. In estimua's case it turned out to be a Sci-Fi related production including dark desert vibes and sounds that give you the feeling of a suddenly broken TV signal and alien spaceships appearing in the sky.

Among the two beautiful original tracks entitled "Morning Sun" and "Flug der Manukoden", you will find here also four remixes from Nyvs (Sol Selectas, Underyourskin, Dream Culture, Magician On Duty), Ephlum (Bercana Music, Cosmic Awakenings, Shango, Lump Records), Nährwerk (Underyourskin Records, Amselcom, down.) and Sydka (MONADA, LOKD, Kamai Music).
