PREMIERE • Ludgate Squatter - Indecisive [Body Musick]

Stroboscopic Artefacts is proud to present the debut album of Malaysian born Bangkok based artist Wanton Witch.

Born in an isolated community of Borneo Island in 1993 Wanton Witch is a DJ and producer with a hyper-sensitive connection and approach to sound through performance. Coming of age in the relative isolation of island life, it wasn’t until relocating to Bangkok that she was able to access the different communities of musical genres that she would later travel between. With an early taste for trap and hip hop, she began working in the deconstructed club and techno scene where she found her musical voice, beginning her DJ career in 2018. Wanton is also a cofounder and original member of Queer underground creative collective ‘Non Non Non’ that has become a Bangkok nightlife staple.

Being an “outsider” musician and producer with no formal training, it was the fortuitous crossing of paths online that has sparked the creative collaboration between Wanton and label owner and creative director Lucy. Last year Stroboscopic Artefacts celebrated ten years established between experimental and dance floor spectres and this is the first record the label is releasing after one year break, marking the launch of a new chapter for the imprint. It is with releases like the eponymous debut album from Wanton Witch and the support given to emerging artists like her that the imprint continues to forge pathways within the industry.

Featuring 11 tracks, these recordings are the first body of work from the Bangkok producer, and include many different snapshots of electronic music genres from IDM and experimental to hardcore and rave, using caustic electronics to deconstruct traditional track conventions. This collection of cuts read more as a complete soundscape, like listening to a live set. The phrenetic jump from genre to genre, the mixing of diverse sound textures and landscapes reflect Wanton Witch’s own experience navigating a hostile world as a Queer trans woman in Malaysia. The intense energy with which each track is cut together reminds the listener of the nostalgia of mixtapes and a time in life when identity is being constructed.

Wanton Witch has created an album which feels like a reflection of the aggregation that already exists within musical internet sub-cultures and communities. A place where many diverse and contrasting sound palettes, textures, and structures can fit together to create a new different, Queer way of seeing the world.

Following up on Wanton’s LP, label head Lucy will also present an actual full length album named ‘Lucy Plays Wanton Witch’ featuring re-interpretations of the original material in a whole new body of work. This upcoming follow up release will not represent a mere remix edition, but a recreation from scratch and the rebirth of “one into another” so to say. Expect the quintessential Lucy treatment.

NEW YORK CITY – Maŕa, experimental artist and founder of the hybrid collective/label, Cultivated Sound, will be releasing a music video, and coinciding EP, for their single "Rebellion" next month. The track, originally released in a compilation by Silent Servant and Rrose called Air Texture VII, will be re-released alongside remixes by LDY OSC and S. English. 

Visually, “Rebellion” is subjective, giving the viewers an individual experience by creating their own story or relationship with Maŕa from the outside. The film also examines Maŕa’s relationship with the viewer as represented by the camera. Her sound is a synthesis of deep, complex atmospheres and punchy rhythms tinged with dance-floor grit. Blurring the lines between ambient, experimental music, and deep bass rhythm, Maŕa’s expertise in sound now has a graphic landscape in the form of her own haunting, virtual oasis. 

"While writing and composing new music, it is all just a feeling for me. I want listeners to be able to understand and feel the emotions I have inside. Rebellion truly represents that sonically and visually, it also represents the struggle of breaking through the industry and encourages women, ethnic minorities, and LGBT communities to be strong and follow their passion. Today we are proud to announce In-house label 'Another Name's second release 'Et Andet Sted Tribute Album - AN01'. A collection of 22 tracks from artists who have played or been connected to the former DIY rave club in the old vegetable market of Copenhagen, a place called “Et Andet Sted”. The release stretches out and explores the diverse outer reaches of what Copenhagen underground scene is all about, starting with distorted experiment sound, four-to-the-floor house, signature fast techno and trance euphoria.
The album comes in two fully packed CDs with the artwork which will tickle some warm memories of countless hours spent o the dancefloor of the club. The compilation album will also be available in a digital version.

About the club: Et Andet Sted was a unique free space for creative souls, DJ’s and ravers. The place for this sonice parallel universe existed for eith month only but it gave the birth to many new inspirations, music carriers and friendships. It was demolished due to gentrification. It is and will forever be missed.

About the label: Another Name is the in-house label of Copenhagen based nightclub: Ved siden Af, The music representing the sound of the club, the artists that frequent our space and the culture it supports.

Davit Sukiasyan aka Hopdop aka T_st has been active as a Dj and producer since 2008. In 2012 he was one of the few artists who started throwing small parties in Yerevan.
In 2018 he co-founded Loopdeville with his friends, which quickly became one of the beloved raving experiences in Yerevan and just a year led them to bring to life Poligraf. A club that is truly dedicated to electronic music, the community, and much beyond.
His sets vary from forward-thinking and energetic to deeper and mystic states of techno & beyond. Though he can be eclectic in the selection, he gets certain characters of unique tribal grooves pounding in all over his sets.
During recent years he has played at events and venues such as Berlin's SYNOID parties, Moscow's Mutabor, and Tbilisi's Khidi.

MALA HERBA is a solo project of sound artist and queer music
activist Zosia Hołubowska. Based on traditional music, magic, and demonology of Eastern Europe, Mala Herba's performances are sonic rituals. The music draws from darkwave and minimal synth- wave but sometimes the melody cracks, the voice becomes a magic spell and the song transforms into a noise soundscape.

After being featured on compilations by labels such as DKA, Exiles, and Total Solidarity by Oramics, Mala Herba released their debut LP "Demonologia" on [aufnahme+wiedergabe] in January 2021, followed by a digital EP "Omnia Vanitas" with two remixes and two covers on the same label.

The third compilation (of four instalments) in the Various Artists catalogue of Pi Electronics is hitting physical and digital stores around the globe on the 10th of February 2023.

The concept of releasing artists, who performed at π parties (2014-2019) along with musicians who stood close to the label before and during its activity, gathers 18 tracks to the Limitation Compilation.

Music by New York City industrial legend Adam X, Swedish master mind producer Peder Mannerfelt and Irish Techno figure, Eomac (also one half of Lakker) finally takes its place on the label catalogue, along with tracks by the electro side of Italian born producer, Alessandro Adriani and the sound-aesthetic of UK hailing musicians, Slave to Society (formerly AnD ) and Sam KDC.
Berlin artists Alekzandra and Interviews appear with a synth leaning piece, and a hypnotic, broken techno contribution respectively.
You can also meet the sound of Tel Aviv’s finest electro duo TV.OUT on this release, which also includes a rare collaboration track by Ireen Amnes and Gramrcy.
Finally, ‘Limitation’ presents music by Greece affiliated acts of different backgrounds: from the dreamy guitars of Monochromatic Visions and the ambient/drone of Devika, to the broken beats of Zevla and Ønly, as well as the rolling techno of Thanos Hana. Not to mention the textures of noise band Phallucipher, the industrial slo mo techno of Thessaloniki’s, Archaic Intellect, and the noise-techno of label founder, 3.14.

A crossroad of different genres and production styles is offered in the formats of Double Vinyl Sampler, Double CD and digital for this compilation, titled “Limitation”.

On this occasion e s p e r p e n t o will donate the proceeds to Psiche 2000 (Vittorio Veneto - Conegliano Department).
Psiche2000 is a voluntary association born in 1994 to meet the needs of people that suffer from mental health issues by promoting educative initiatives, creative workshops and fighting against disinformation and bias.

Back in 2009, Italian DJ and producer Luca Mortellaro - better known simply as Lucy - established the Stroboscopic Artefacts label. And over the last 14 years, the imprint has nurtured a reputation for its line-blurring electronic abstraction and dancefloor experimentation, releasing influential material by artists like Speedy J, Kangding Ray, Donato Dozzy, Paula Temple, Rrose, Ben Klock, Wanton Witch, and of course Lucy themselves. Naturally following the label's ten year threshold, the pandemic pause and Mortellaro's subsequent artistic re-evaluation, OTHER FACTS emerges as a fresh entity, fully unplugged from Stroboscopic Artefacts' dancefloor mainframe, with its gaze pointed on widescreen cinematic sound design and audio-visual art.
