House Of Others es el nombre que le damos desde Others to the Front al propósito de traer de vuelta la música house a su público legítimo. Un podcast semanal que retratará los diferentes tonos y variedades del house, ya sea vocal house, deep house, acid house, hip house, Garage, UK Garage, Speed ​​Garage. Le pediremos a nuestres djs favorites que elaboren y que construyan su definición del house en sesiones sin los límites de tiempo habituales en los podcast, de al menos dos horas de duración, o más si le dj necesita más tiempo para dar cuenta completa de su/nuestra definición de música house.

No se trata tanto de buscar una “autenticidad” o un sonido purista como de trasladar a todes una cultura house que, en el continente europeo, y muy especialmente, en la escena madrileña, tanto del pasado como en la actualidad, ha sido ninguneada. Pocos subgéneros de la música electrónica han sido más descuidados, despreciados, mercantilizados y distorsionados en su sentido como la música house. 

El house nació durante los años 80 como un sonido totalmente nuevo en los clubs gays negros de Chicago, como The Warehouse, primero, y The Music Box, después. Allí, gente como Frankie Knuckles y Ron Hardy desbordaron los límites de la música disco y la electrónica, yendo más allá de las convenciones de la "canción pop" y centrándose en crear una cadencia rítmica inagotable en la que los paisajes sonoros se transforman y se desarrollan en, y junto a, otro.

Madrid y el continente europeo han pasado por una serie de años en los que un techno sin alma, proveniente en su mayoría de la industria berlinesa de clubs, con su enorme capacidad para monetizar y cooptar, ha sentado las bases para una ola interminable de techno convencionalmente designado como "oscuro", que ha ido degenerando hasta convertirse en un sonido mercantilizado y hueco lleno de gestos teatrales que intentan suplir espectacularizadamente un sonido acuoso. Creemos que es el momento adecuado para traer de vuelta los sonidos liberadores del house a las mentes y cuerpas de todes.

La música house, descendiente de las personas y la cultura negra y queer, ha creado un sonido maravilloso y mágico que se mete dentro de nuestras cuerpas y nos hace bailar hasta liberar toda la energía en la pista de baile, creando experiencias profundas de libertad, tanto colectiva como individualmente. La música house ha prosperado por igual en los sótanos de pequeños clubes queer y en las fiestas de verano al aire libre en los hoods afroamericanos o latinos. Las crews de baile, ya sean de vogueing, jitting, footwork o breakdance, son una parte clave de esta cultura. Una cultura del baile, que como diría el propio DJ Qu, uno de los productores de Nueva Jersey que ha llevado el house más lejos en los últimos años, “no es lo mismo que moverse al ritmo de la música”.

Others to the Front is releasing its first compilation EP next week, celebrating the second anniversary of the House of Others podcast, with the desire to continue strengthening the community, in permanent construction around HoO and its radical love for underground House culture, which has as its mission to bring back this Queer & POC music to its legitimate audience.

All the DJ-producers participating in this EP are already HoO's acquaintances. They shared their story in a 2-hour mix, making us walk through their vision of House, in dialogue with their other lives, resistant and rebellious lives, never banal and always disobedient.

Formed by 14 tracks that in alliance reclaim House music as the music of the otherness, as a safe place to let ourselves be, to question and seduce ourselves to the rhythm of melodies loaded with for-coming. 14 dissident pills make up this compilation, a celebration of the existence of Queer & POC bodies. An EP that dances collectively in search of the common history of the otherness. Deep bass lines that tell our history in the key of Groove, a history which remains, even today, clandestine, and unknown to many.

Get ready to travel through suggestive and dissident soundscapes, experiences of otherness that connect us and remind us that we are not alone, rhythms that move and transform the soul of the listener. The tracks of this EP tell a story and exist with you, they are just there and ask for nothing in return. They are there for when you want to feel them. They exist in case you need them. They are there for you to play on any dance floor that sweats glitter. They exist for you to dance to how, where and with whom you want. 

HoO vol.1 is the shared experience of 14 stories of 16 producers who travel together transatlanticaly, during 1 hour 18 minutes 41 seconds, in the format of House electronic music. A journey to dive into the overflowing world of the most underground House culture. All are welcome. Who enters, stays. HoO Vol.1

Others to the Front releases HoO Vol.2, a second compilation celebrating the third anniversary of the House of Others podcast. 120 mixes, curated by @materia_hache, that highlight House as a feeling rather than a genre, reaffirming our commitment to building a radical House community. Because we are still here, queer, black, brown, trans, dissident, undesirable, noisy, we are here and we are dancing, loudly. Because House is ours. Because it always was. And it will continue to sound, as proof of our collective existence.

A new sonic journey starts, one of 15 tracks that expand the frontiers of House as a space of resistance and shared ritual. Sounds from multiple geographies and bodies, a constellation of producers who claim this music as a territory of otherness, as a vital pulsation, as a political manifesto that vibrates in every beat. It does not ask for permission. It does not seek likes. It does not want to be a trend. It is made for the creatures of the night, for those who live on the margins, for those who know that dancing is also fighting. That making music from the otherness is not a luxury, it is a necessity.

In this second release, mastered by @lanasaints, the EP becomes an intimate and global conversation: Get ready to immerse yourself in scars turned into underground House for 1 hour, 23 minutes and 50 seconds. They are beats of worlds that do not yet exist. They are a rabid, bright and noisy embrace. Because we will not be erased. Because we create future in every track. HoO Vol.2 is a communal experience to be listened to with the whole body, to let yourself go unconditionally. It's here for when you need a refuge, an explosion, a caress or a trench. For when you need to remember that you are not alone.

About the Mix: «Me considero und DJ de House, mismo si a veces el House como género no domina en mis sets. La manera en que voy armando la noche -en conjunto con les bailarines en la pista- es algo que viene de ahí, y de recuerdos y experiencias compartidas con gente que definieron mi propio sentimiento del House, que está alejado de la narrativa oficial. Es en Colonia, la capital de la música electrónica en Alemania, en su momento denominada “Baby Chicago” por les DJs que nos venían a visitar desde aquella ciudad, donde conocí la pista de baile que proponía cada semana nuevos pasos. Christian S y yo teníamos una fiesta llamada “Lost” a la cual invitamos a Elbee Bad, con el que me fui en tren de Berlin a Colonia. Para mi hubo un antes y un después ahí - de cómo tocar, de cómo dialogar con la pista de baile. Este set que les presento me llevó a esos recuerdos y refleja una manera de ver el House que tiene que ver con Elbee Bad, The prince of dance, que tiene que ver con mi sello Cómeme, con Ana Helder, con Katerina, Diegors, con Christian S, con Sano - y que también tiene que ver con lo Latino en el House, y con Sudáfrica, donde el House nunca se fue y donde siempre lo he sentido muy vivo, en nuevas interpretaciones de un mismo sentimiento. En Johannesburgo sonaban temas de Cómeme (Como “ósea hello” de Diegors), y les DJs de Cómeme siempre tocaban tracks que venían de allá - con DJ Spoko marcando el paso de los ritmos que disfrutábamos en ese momento, culminando un día en el manifiesto colaborativo entre Spoko, Elbee y yo que fue “Something about the Groove”, título de mi Mix.
Ellos ya no están con nosotres, pero de alguna manera si permanecen vivos en nuestro ritmos y sonidos, y nuestra propia interpretación del House.»

About the mix: For me, House music is a 44-year-old genre of music that originated and popularized in the black gay LGBTQ+ nightclub spaces of New York, Chicago, and Detroit that spilled on to influence and inspire the world. House music is a living breathing relic that tells its own story in the hits, the lyrics, the parties, and our legends and legacies in local and worldwide scenes. 
House music is a mode of being, a ritualistic euphoria we gather for, a space of praise, connection, and unadulterated feeling, healing and dancing- kind of like church should be, a dance floor where there is room for someone like you.
The mix I made explores a spiritual realm of House music with influences of Jazz, Disco, Gospel, and African and Latin Diasporic sounds. 
Its infectious rhythms take you into a certain sentimentality. This is an ancestral conversation twisting into different messages of hope and resilience. The heart, soul, and mind are wrestling with big themes in these transitions. Though breaking through at times to find lightness, this one is meant to go deep. I love that House Music can hold all the multitudes and complexities of being human.

About the mix: House music properly came into my life when I was going through a pretty rough patch at the end of my teenage years and so I figured I'd put together a mixtape of tracks I would've loved to hear back then. It begins in the late 1980s with a handful of "Proto-House" tracks I could imagine hearing at the Paradise Garage (NY) & Warehouse (Chicago) later goes into the 90s House sound. If you've ever heard me play at a function, you might realise that I see House music as a great sonic canvas for expressing my feelings and so I make as much use of vocals as I can. There are so many different strains and flavours of House which is partially the reason why I seem to never get bored of it. Many of the genres that inspire me can be integrated into a House set for example Soul, Gospel, Disco, Jazz, Reggae, Latin & more. 
The heartbreak that inspired this wasn't exactly a romantic heartbreak though, but rather a heartbreak from the current situation of the world (in German there's a great word called "weltschmerz" which I would describe as translating to something along the lines of "pain of the world", a feeling that seems to have been with me since the age of 15). I hope this mix helps you sit with your sadness and remember to have hope! I have processed so much in my life with House music playing, either at home or on the dancefloor with my community and always find it interesting when folks tell me something like "oh I don't like House music". Don't knock it till you try it huh?

It's a soundscape full of sentimental and nostalgic pads, where Mr. Fingers and Basic Channel merge in love and harmony in a village in Michoacán. How good this trip feels.

BIO:
DJ and producer originally from Michoacán Mexico and based in CDMX. Don Esquivel focuses his sound on house music, techno and its variants. Part of the roster of Por Detroit, an itinerant rave in Los Angeles and CDMX oriented to dissidents.

"A track inspired by the beach, the sunrise and the breeze, made from a sample that I found by chance, but I had heard it in a Solid Groove song of the 2000's, so the sound of the song also seeks to give that feeling for that years, something nostalgic and full of sentimental pads."

It could be Sunday, the bells are ringing and it's time to go to mass. We are in Berlin, it sounds like a small town in Brazil. Its 7 o'clock in the morning, we reluctantly live it behinsd and are ready to dance to this exhilarating spiritual rhythm. Our past must be danced through. We swap the church pews for Tribal House and get back on the dancefloor.

BIO:
GIO (Giovani Goltara, he-him) has discovered that electronic dance music is where he feels most comfortable expressing himself. Ever since his early rave days, he's been drawn to electronic beats infused with Latin American rhythms. Digging through records from the 1990s, GIO uncovered a treasure of productions that appropriated diverse sonorities from the global south. Now, he's on a mission to bring these sounds back and re-appropriate them for queer dance events, particularly in Berlin, where he's been organizing parties since 2021. One of his standout events is Coven, which focuses on celebrating queer Latin American culture through music and dance.

"Missa 7am is a visit to my Christian roots. Originally from a small town, my main musical outlet was church. For a decade, I played keyboards at Catholic masses, weddings and events. As I recorded the synthesizers for this track, I remembered Sunday mornings, reluctantly going to church, except when I was there to play. The atmosphere of those days remained etched in my memory, but fortunately, I traded the church pews for the dancefloor."

Without going far, while staying at 130bpm with the celestial rhythm ascending, in this Italo-House-Trance spacey cut. We are still in Berlin, even though now it smells like Santiago de Chile, reminding us of the migrant experience, that strange idea of crossing the Equator in a matter of hours, and crossing the fragile summer-winter temporal membrane. The impossible bouquet.

BIO:
Feasting (Miguel Jara, he) is a migrant queer DJ, born in Santiago de Chile and based in Berlin for more than a decade. His music makes visible the queer roots of electronic music and the dancefloor as an engine for social change. 
His spectrum of sounds has a broad understanding of house in the realm of deep, progressive and power house, with a high energy and marked Latin influences.
In 2020, together with his queer family, he founded the Coven collective, his current residency and main project, an event that has gained respect and recognition in the Berlin underground, focusing on migrant artists and/or artists from the global south.

"The image behind this track comes from an art historical topic: the impossible bouquet. Baroque painting was obsessed with the impossible idea of reproducing images of flowers that in reality could never coexist given their blooming at different times of the year. The migrant experience (especially for those of us born in the southern hemisphere) sometimes goes hand in hand with experiences of contemporary existence: the strange idea of crossing the Equator in a matter of hours, and of course, experiencing winter and summer separated by the fragile temporal membrane of a transatlantic flight."

Este mix va dedicado a esas almas Houseras que se plantan desde el principio y se quedan hasta el final, va dedicado a quienes tienen miedo y están hasta atrás, va dedicado a las personas que están en la barra, las luces, a quienes chiflan, eso sí, no a quienes toman videos con flash, lol. En este set me inspiré en el Whole festival donde aprendí lo sabroso que es combinar sonidos de percusión con elementos del Acid.

About the mix: My first contact with House music was by randomly grabbing and playing one of my sister's illegal cassette tapes (that's how we shared music in the 90's!). It must have been around 1998, when I was about 11 or 12. The cassette said "Daft Punk - Homework" and I had no idea what that was, but it blew me away instantly. Cut 2 to a couple of years later, when I got my first salary from my first job ever, which I spent on a pair of second-hand turntables and mixer to learn how to dj. The early 2000s were all about electro revival, electroclash, EBM idolatry and a fetish for the 80s aesthetics. So that's what I used to play. Not much house music really... It's so funny to me that today my Dj sets are so much infused with that same strong 90's Chicago House influence that "Homework" had, specially since I spent soooo many years playing no house music at all. For this mix I wanted to put together many house records that I love in a Vinyl Only set, most of them are mid 90s, many classics, some of them very much in the Chicago House umbrella, but also some others falling in categories like HI-NRG, Acid, Proto-House, Electro and 90s Techno. I hope you like it!

About the mix: "I’m deeply honoured to be asked to do the House of Others 100th podcast. I’ve been listening since #2 Paurro and #6 Boyyyish! I tried to make this a really personal mix, themed around the Posthuman release “It’s A House Thing” from 2015. It features music by many of my friends and labelmates – Lauren Flax, Alinka, Elisa Bee, Paranoid London, Black Girl / White Girl, Hard Ton and more. For me, house music – particularly acid house – is a central part of my life’s work. I’ve been running I Love Acid for 18 years now, and the people involved in it have become family. I think it’s important to use any influence or power you have to make the scene better for others – to be the kind of person YOU needed when you were starting out. It’s easy to talk big online (everybody does!) but it’s the actions you take that count, and I’d prefer to be known not so much for my silly social media noise - but for the music I play, the people I book to DJ at my parties, and the artists I release on my record label."

About the mix: "I live in Chicago and came up as a deejay here (just celebrated by 10 years of publically deejaying in September!) so while I always think about House music as a track with a certain kick and hat pattern, frequently with pianos, vocals, and horns; I think about the original reason House music was called House, simply because it was the kind of music played at the Warehouse. I think that any music that is played in Chicago can then be dubbed as House music because it’s in whatever “House” you are deejaying in. Because Chicago is my artistic home, this mix features a ton of songs that I have frequented in the club recently. Some can be considered house, some can’t, but because at the end of the day, House is about fun, I wanted this mix to be fun. I was struggling with how to approach it until I let go a bit and was like, just play, you do this all the time. This mix is giving so it’s called the It’s Giving Mix. You can dance to it, study to it, fuck to it, honestly it’s very malleable for whatever situation you’re in."

About the mix: "This set was recorded in the spirit of my last few sets I have released. It was a one-take mix meant to tell a story, therapeutically act as a reflection of my current emotions, and to showcase my peak time energy and overall range. I love so many subgenres of house and I wanted to bring definition to many of them including acid, garage, jacking, NY, vocal, and minimal with a little sprinkle of other genres of electronic music worked in. I was trying to get out of a challenging headspace, thinking of so much pain and suffering in the world and my own situation as I start a new chapter of my life. I wanted to conjure the feeling of heading for an intentional night out of release, choosing to live my life, yearning for love and gathering, seeking a safe space to be my authentic self. Choosing joy over despair - an energetic shift that ripples out. About the mix: This set is deeply personal, an emotional and autobiographical journey that crosses moments from my childhood and adolescence, with flashbacks to the present. 
It stitches together different strands of House, Latin, Tribal, Vogue, as well as tracks made by or in collaboration with friends.
As I grew up, I began to understand my individuality and my differences, which often led to mismatches with my surroundings. Music has always been the space where I could belong, connect with something bigger and truly collective. It was (and still is) the most powerful way I found to build real and lasting friendships. It's where I found my clique.
Since I was a teenager, I've moved through many genres that still echo in my sound: Punk, Alternative, California Hardcore, New Wave, Synthpop, Britpop, Electroclash, Electropop, Garage, Hip Hop and Trip Hop. All of them have left their mark on the way I feel and think about music.
My relationship with music is also spiritual, an internal, almost instinctive need. Each phase of my life has a track, a sound, a playlist that defines it. This set represents exactly what house is to me: a warm, welcoming space where you can grow with love and spontaneity.
“The Summer is Magic” is a track that takes me directly back to my childhood, but also has a strong connection to the essence of electronic music. It's always summer somewhere in the world (and this set is an ongoing conversation with the four seasons: summer, high summer, spring and mid-season).

About the mix: When I think of house music, I think of celebration, of divas and queer icons who paved the way and served as examples. Electronic music can have its moments of trance and introspection, but house music proposes a socialization that takes place in performance: in fashion, singing, and dance, everything is collective. For this set, I brought my most intimate references, which are mainly related to urban dances: old school vogue, wacking disco, break hip hop, tribal dabke, among others. I think about the memory of my body and what I love to dance, my way of transcending and lending my energy to the dance floor.
I like to propose each set in a cinematic way, like an adventure that traverses different genres, energies, and bpms. I hate linearly happy sets; I prefer to create an emotional journey that allows the audience to experience different sensations. I have a strong influence from soul, acid house, and jazz, with a lot of drama and the presence of many instruments, which makes electronic music more human and authentic.

BIO:
Active in the Lisbon scene since the early 2000s, Photonz is a local mainstay whose work spans community projects like Rádio Quântica, mina and Planeta Manas, as well as a myriad solo releases and many hours behind the DJ booth, both locally and internationally.
His off-kilter yet dancefloor-ready music has resonated widely, with key releases on Unknown To The Unknown, Crème Organization, naive and a 2019 LP on San Francisco’s legendary Dark Entries.
Photonz has been touring far and wide, bringing his own genre-mangling sensibility and murky bangers. His sets can easily move between raw house & techno tracks to heads-down subwoofer rattlers - from bruk to dubstep and jungle - and euphoric, serotonin-depleting emo rave.

Originally from Buenos Aires and based in Brazil for over 10 years, Pablo, the mind behind the SUB-P project, is obsessed with sounds that take over the entire body. The artist channels contemporaneity and raises questions by exploring Latin sonic textures. His research is grounded in a strong commitment to rhythm, pushing the limits of House and Techno with frequent flirtations with Dark Disco and Latin House. Formed in 2018 at Aimec in Balneário Camboriú, his sets bring the scent of sand, standing out for vibrant vocals and hot beats that transmit Latin sensuality.

About the mix: What is House? 
I find it's quite personal .. I think my energy and the way I'm connected to my community is really reflected in the way I connect to house.
This set explores latin rhythms, moves to bassey breakbeats, & across to prog, trance & a lil dibbley dabble into harder house. 
Upon returning to Berlin I'm surrounded by so much, my mind is admittedly a little scattered. Although this isn't an energy I particularly enjoy mixing within, I want to take this opportunity to share some of the amazing digs I've come across in the past five months - plus some originals that I'm very excited to have in the works!
House is memories? 
"Girassol" reminds me of playing by the canal in Neukolln, "I Can't Take no More" reminds me of riding through down-town Naarm, dodging trams & pedestrians, "Not Giving Up" reminds me of a sweaty time in Zur Klappe. When I reflect on the past five months, they've included me going through a hell of a grind and I think Fierce was right, "I'm a working girl". A lot of these tracks got me through that grind; accompanied by rolling percussions, faaaaat basslines, and cunty vocal chops I got through with my ass bouncing along the way.

About the mix: For me, House Music can’t be captured in a single mix.
This mix isn’t a definition – it’s a snapshot. A moment in time, shaped by sounds I find fundamentally powerful and moving.
House, for me, isn’t a genre with rules – it’s a feeling. It lives in the machines: the drum computers and synths from the ’80s and ’90s that gave us Chicago, Acid, Synth Wave, Italo, Hi-NRG, Eurodance, New Beat – all of it.
And yeah, it goes back even further: ’70s Disco is in the DNA. You hear it in the samples, the chopped vocals, the strings, the grooves – still hitting hard decades later.
Techno elements always find their way back in too. They blend, break apart, come back around. That push and pull – that constant evolution – is what keeps House so alive.
Just like us: always shifting, always moving. Never standing still.

About the mix: "For me, House music is many things: it’s human. It’s expression. A soulful means of connection — whether you’re in the booth or on the dancefloor. It’s playful. It’s emotional. A genre rooted in community, refuge and in collective resistance.
What I love about House is how inherently inclusive it feels. It’s a genre that evolves, that adapts, that warmly welcomes elements from other genres. It borrows and blends… folding in the sassy diva vocals, the cheeky breaks, the classic throwback samples, jazzy instrumentals in all these clever ways. 
House doesn’t play by the rules, and like many of us, I’ve never liked being boxed in. My playlists are sorted by vibe, not subgenre, and I’m usually hesitant to “define my sound” for fear of being labeled. But this HoO mix is a reminder of how versatile House can be — and how multi-faceted being human is. Some days we wake up feeling cute ’n’ sassy, sweet ’n’ spicy. About the mix: "Para este set destaco los sonidos crudos y potentes de bajos y percusiones, acompañados de vocals y sampling; del inicio (80s-90s). También marcado por influencias del disco, acid house,  latin house y tribal. Los soundsystem de los 90s llamados minitecas influyeron en mis inicios en el baile. Incluyo algunos clásicos que me han inspirado siempre, así como productores contemporáneos que mantienen vivos estos preceptos y sonoridades.
En el house aprecio la influencia del sonido latino gracias a la migración, y celebro el baile como reunión, como acto político de afirmación frente a la exclusión social y económica en oposición al conservadurismo, al sistema. Este género ha sido, desde sus orígenes, una referencia pionera de una tecnología democratizada en comunidades alternativas y autogestivas; y rescato la permanencia de esos preceptos en los colectivos actuales queer latinoamericanos. Nos enseñó a producir música al margen de la industria, utilizando sintetizadores y cajas de ritmos accesibles, marcando un antes, y un después en la historia de la música electrónica.”

About the mix: House music is everything to me. The sweet spot where I can let go, close my eyes and enjoy myself. It is empowerment and has a place for everyone on the dancefloor. House music would not exist without the LGBTQIA+ community and the majority of the tracks in this mix are producers and labels from Berlin who are the gems of the Berlin queer nightlife. Berlin is queer and this mix shows the world how many great and amazing artists can be found here. 
It is so important to have place and party where people not from the cis white male perspective can have a space to belong.
