About the Mix: «Me considero und DJ de House, mismo si a veces el House como género no domina en mis sets. La manera en que voy armando la noche -en conjunto con les bailarines en la pista- es algo que viene de ahí, y de recuerdos y experiencias compartidas con gente que definieron mi propio sentimiento del House, que está alejado de la narrativa oficial. Es en Colonia, la capital de la música electrónica en Alemania, en su momento denominada “Baby Chicago” por les DJs que nos venían a visitar desde aquella ciudad, donde conocí la pista de baile que proponía cada semana nuevos pasos. Christian S y yo teníamos una fiesta llamada “Lost” a la cual invitamos a Elbee Bad, con el que me fui en tren de Berlin a Colonia. Para mi hubo un antes y un después ahí - de cómo tocar, de cómo dialogar con la pista de baile. Este set que les presento me llevó a esos recuerdos y refleja una manera de ver el House que tiene que ver con Elbee Bad, The prince of dance, que tiene que ver con mi sello Cómeme, con Ana Helder, con Katerina, Diegors, con Christian S, con Sano - y que también tiene que ver con lo Latino en el House, y con Sudáfrica, donde el House nunca se fue y donde siempre lo he sentido muy vivo, en nuevas interpretaciones de un mismo sentimiento. En Johannesburgo sonaban temas de Cómeme (Como “ósea hello” de Diegors), y les DJs de Cómeme siempre tocaban tracks que venían de allá - con DJ Spoko marcando el paso de los ritmos que disfrutábamos en ese momento, culminando un día en el manifiesto colaborativo entre Spoko, Elbee y yo que fue “Something about the Groove”, título de mi Mix.
Ellos ya no están con nosotres, pero de alguna manera si permanecen vivos en nuestro ritmos y sonidos, y nuestra propia interpretación del House.»

About the Mix: «In her seminar "Analog Synthesis for Witches", the musician & artist Gavilán Rayna Russom described our lives as condensate energy temporarily bubbling up from the deep waters of our ancestors. Whenever we visit I always ask her to re-explain the concept and where it comes from, but then I always forget the deets. But I always think about how House music reflects back to me the inner walls of our bubbles so eloquently. It encapsulates the hard times and the opulent ones in a folk tradition type of way. Wherever its goes, good things always seem to follow. I made this mix on two CDJs and a mixer and it features some of my very loved tracks that span the timeline and dimensions of House.»

About the Mix: «House music comes in so many different forms and sub-genres. When I first started clubbing in the 90's there was a lot of Hard House, Handbag House, Progressive, Euro House and Euro trance in all the clubs, which was very UK / Europe (particularly Dutch) influenced, but I was more into the more soulful and vocal stuff back then, which was more NYC and Chicago sounds and that's what I was playing when I first started DJing - but Hard / Handbag House & Euro and Progressive House / Trance are having a renaissance right now and I'm revelling in this revival, it's very nostalgic for me and enjoying it much more the second time around. So this mix is a nod to those early 90s sounds and very much the stuff I'm playing and loving at the moment. The mix is mostly made up from original 90's tracks, with a couple more recent tracks that are either re-makes or influenced by those 90s sounds. The mix includes tracks from some of the most synonymous labels of those genres from that time, including Hooj choons, Armada, Blue Records, Limbo, Reflective Ltd, Fresh Fruit and Stress Records, so it's a real homage and a reflection of where my sound is at right now.»

I leaned into what made me feel my best in this very moment and to be my complete “FRESCA” - self.

Acerca del mix: He rebuscado entre los discos/sellos que más me han influido, procurando crear un viaje que no fuese en absoluto académico y que se disfrute con los ojos cerrados y los charles bien abiertos. A mí el House me cambió la vida LITERAL. En mi opinión la pista de baile es el mayor catalizador social que ha existido: nos hace a todos iguales. Al menos así lo vivimos en mi generación; un montón de gente unida por el baile, liberándose de sus complejos y abrazando la diferencia sin normas ni tutelas. Puede que con la distancia suene exagerado, pero yo he visto lo que pasaba en una pista al sonar el House Nation y eso era de verdad. 
En la sesión he procurado reunir discos de todos los lugares que hicieron de la última mitad de los 90 una explosión que sintetizó el groove de la música negra con la tradición electrónica europea y el dub jamaicano. Desde el house burbujeante e hipnótico de la escena de Glasgow representada por DJ Q, a la elegancia londinense de Nigel Hayes, la psicodelia facturada en la costa oeste norteamericana de Rasoul, el gamberrismo italiano, el toque francés, la profundidad de Chicago, la vanguardia de Detroit, el minimalismo alemán, el descaro de las producciones holandesas... El tema final es mi favorito del Bodily Functions de Herbert, probablemente la cúspide de la música sintética de aquella época. No están todos lo que son, pero sí que son todos los que están.

About the mix: This mix is an example of both the timelessness and wide range that exists within dance music. Not only do these tracks span from the late 80s to just a few months ago, the sound varies across the dance music spectrum. For me many of these sounds are what have drawn me to the dance floor over the years, helping to combat both my social anxiety and gender dysphoria; they are what have reminded me many times that being Queer and loving the things you love puts you in community with so many other like minded radical folks. About the mix: For me, House music is a 44-year-old genre of music that originated and popularized in the black gay LGBTQ+ nightclub spaces of New York, Chicago, and Detroit that spilled on to influence and inspire the world. House music is a living breathing relic that tells its own story in the hits, the lyrics, the parties, and our legends and legacies in local and worldwide scenes. 
House music is a mode of being, a ritualistic euphoria we gather for, a space of praise, connection, and unadulterated feeling, healing and dancing- kind of like church should be, a dance floor where there is room for someone like you.
The mix I made explores a spiritual realm of House music with influences of Jazz, Disco, Gospel, and African and Latin Diasporic sounds. 
Its infectious rhythms take you into a certain sentimentality. This is an ancestral conversation twisting into different messages of hope and resilience. The heart, soul, and mind are wrestling with big themes in these transitions. Though breaking through at times to find lightness, this one is meant to go deep. I love that House Music can hold all the multitudes and complexities of being human.

Me encanta poder compartir una pincelada de todo lo que significa la música house para mi a través de este mix y que coincide mucho con la idea del podcast House Of Others. Es difícil agregar más a todo lo que se ha dicho sobre el house en esta misma plataforma, así que sólo hablaré un poco de la música que seleccioné esta vez. Suenan muchos clásicos (para mi al menos) mucha música de hace 30 años o más, pero también bastantes tracks del año pasado. Me gustan los contrastes que se dan en la música house y que conviven en una pista de baile. Puede ser música divertida, juguetona y pop. Pero también experimental, acid y jacking. Puede ser sofisticada y sensual , pero también cruda y callejera. Robótica, pero también funky y llena de referencias a la música disco .Y algo de eso quería rescatar en mi mix. Ese sentimiento underground y latino. Como siempre ha sido el house para mi. Espero que lo disfruten!!🙂

About the mix: House music has always struck me as a manifestation of profound, glowing joy and being remarkably human - sometimes in sharp contrast with murkier, shadowy wormhole rave music shrouded in fog and strobe lights - perhaps the dancefloor equivalent of bubbling laughter where other dance music is whispering prayer. It's this quality of warmth that is so exciting and comforting, and allows everyone to groove and celebrate life together, that makes house music familiar and unifying. I wanted to take this energy and sensibility but make it more dreamy, gauzy, atmospheric, and decorated with some twinkling sentimentality - hence dreamier pads, emotive synths, sparkling arpeggios, some trance-adjacent leanings and references. Particularly as the seasons change and we tip over into longer days, brighter light, and the beginning of blooming, I thought to conjure a vernal haze for waking up from cold winds to new, surprising sunrays - music for jostling yourself into big smiles with thoughtful, jubilant company.

About the mix: House music and the underground culture that surrounds it are a social, cultural and political technology of collective abandonment that was organically designed by queer, latino and black crowds to bypass societal oppression in temporary spaces of suspension from such norms. It is a pure expression of freedom and community that, when done well, is able to bypass rigid barriers of class, race, gender, sexuality and background. My mix focusses on a mixture of old and new tracks that signal moments were I was able to feel the power of this music and understand that it counteracted and forced me to question my own socialisation as a white, heterossexual male, opening up new avenues for my own expression as a whole being that didn't have to adhere (and was invited to fight against) such normative conformities.

About the mix: House music properly came into my life when I was going through a pretty rough patch at the end of my teenage years and so I figured I'd put together a mixtape of tracks I would've loved to hear back then. It begins in the late 1980s with a handful of "Proto-House" tracks I could imagine hearing at the Paradise Garage (NY) & Warehouse (Chicago) later goes into the 90s House sound. If you've ever heard me play at a function, you might realise that I see House music as a great sonic canvas for expressing my feelings and so I make as much use of vocals as I can. There are so many different strains and flavours of House which is partially the reason why I seem to never get bored of it. Many of the genres that inspire me can be integrated into a House set for example Soul, Gospel, Disco, Jazz, Reggae, Latin & more. 
The heartbreak that inspired this wasn't exactly a romantic heartbreak though, but rather a heartbreak from the current situation of the world (in German there's a great word called "weltschmerz" which I would describe as translating to something along the lines of "pain of the world", a feeling that seems to have been with me since the age of 15). I hope this mix helps you sit with your sadness and remember to have hope! I have processed so much in my life with House music playing, either at home or on the dancefloor with my community and always find it interesting when folks tell me something like "oh I don't like House music". Don't knock it till you try it huh?

About the mix: Creo que pocos géneros de música electrónica suenan tan versátiles y atemporales como lo hace el House. Tracks de los 80 y los 90 conviven perfectamente con tracks producidos en la actualidad y, a pesar de que la tecnología y el sonido han evolucionado, su esencia sigue siendo la misma.
Hace años, el House se convirtió para mí en un espacio seguro, encontrando mi lugar en clubs madrileños tristemente desaparecidos como el Soho o el LP. Ha sido un enorme placer redescubrir y sumergirme de lleno en este género durante el último año. Con él he configurado mi identidad como DJ.

El House juega un papel fundamental en mi vida, al igual que en la de muchas personas queer y migrantes. Junto con los afrodescendientes, los latinos han  fusionado raíces para crear el estilo musical que nos hace bailar hacen décadas. Mis primeras raves, yá a los 26 años, me hicieron sentir parte de una escena artística única. Como estudiante y profesor de historia del arte, me di cuenta de que era parte de una expresión artística que aún no se enseñaba en la universidad. Desde entonces, el House y el baile han sido mi mayor fascinación artística.

About the mix: Este podcast está creado desde la euforia, la calma, seguridad y familiaridad que me generan los temas que se escuchan, creo que el (Afro)House para mí son estas sensaciones de volar y aterrizar de manera muy liviana pero también intensa. 
Relocated House es un mix atravesado por los distintos subgéneros que han ido componiendo el afrohouse (gqom, kuduro, electrónica, guettotech…). En este mix la percusión no solo es la protagonista sino que también el guía atemporal que nos recuerda el origen de este maravilloso género.
