Will Jack (they/them) - fka Novail

Hailing from the Pacific Northwest and now based in Brooklyn, the promoter and resident of Portland’s Switch Dance Party, Will Jack, has been hard at work establishing themself in the queer dance scene. Will Jack has spent the last couple of years behind the scenes of DIY parties as a producer and floor manager all the while promoting nights of their own, studying the craft and honing their skills and philosophy of the rave. As a DJ, Will Jack plays for the time and space delivering multidimensional techno sets as consistently as they do a hot and cruisy house groove. Seen behind the decks in places such as Portland’s Holocene, NY’s Bossa Nova Civic Club, the Chernobyl Warehouse, as well as Brooklyn’s UNTER party and San Francisco’s STANK, Will Jack is a force to keep an eye on with a story to be told.

"Big thank you to XOXA for the opportunity to contribute a mix to their series. Being raw and pure is core to my artistic style, so while I strive for quality and perfection, there are moments when I’m imperfect and work to do better. I’m a believer that the moment is always as intended, and while it’s riddled with suffering, it’s when I go against the grain of that suffering that I experience my most meaningful moments of growth. Being a human is messy and hard and because of that, many of us forget how lucky we are. Too many of us are literally fighting to survive. So with this mix, with the holidays, with the violence in Gaza, I hope to share some light, some groove, some horniness, some imperfection, some compassion and an opportunity to do better. Dee Diggs is a DJ and music producer based in Brooklyn, NY. She is unapologetically black, queer, and a lifelong student of the tenets of House Music. She describes herself as a lifelong ‘music-head’ and music lover. She cultivates a dance community of peers and collaborators through her parties named, House of Diggs, usually held at Public Records in Brooklyn.

Something about playing that Sunday, after Shyboi, in the room I'm usually doing the lights for, that made me want to just bang it out. Beating the box, my inner truth, my love language. So many drum tracks, so little time... I wanted to mix the old school beat tracks I love with the, often goofy and outrageous, early hardcore from '90-'92 before the genre had distilled into hardcore jungle and DnB. And while I have some misgivings of this live set I think this mix still gives. The reviews I heard were "I was speed skating so much during ur set", "it was giving sexy", and "best yet" : )

Blush aims to help soothe the queer spectrum and focus on the well-being of the community. Queer DJs are invited to submit a mix to showcase an alternative side to their music library outside of a rave and take us on a meditative journey. ✨

Notes on the mix:

“I listen to alot of ambient, jazz, shoegaze, non-dance music to soundtrack my daily life, turning my design work, long walks, bike rides, chores and meditation into a sort of cinematic beauty. These songs and albums become very personal to me for this reason. Whenever I'm asked to share this music, whether as a DJ set or as a recorded mix it becomes a loaded exchange for me. I worked on compiling this music and recording the mix the week leading up to the total eclipse in my home in Mid City New Orleans. This process proved to be very psychedelic and introspective and the result feels like an important timeline marker in this stage of my life that I will be transported back to anytime I revisit the mix. I hope that in sharing this sonic tapestry, the listener  is able to close their eyes and take a psychedelic carpet ride, a journey inward, riding the sound waves, and allowing them to evoke emotion, thought, and introspection.”

Bouffant Bouffant is a DJ, Producer, and party starter from New Orleans, Louisiana. He cut his teeth in local sex clubs, warehouses, and dive bars but has become a major player on the bubbling American Queer Underground nightlife circuit as well as International jaunts to play for the likes of Cocktail d’Amore, Buttons Berlin, Mustang Paris, and Savage Hanoi. His monthly party Gimme A Reason has been fostering space for queer nightlife in New Orleans for over 9 years and has become known for it's wild and rawkus, no rules policy. In recent years he has delved into the arena of ambient music creating mixes and DJing listening bars like Kwia Berlin.
