Cycle EP
"Cycle" is an acoustic work of otom that expresses the four seasons with four images of summer, autumn, winter and spring and four playing styles.
otom continues to release works with a floating guitar sound. However, this work is an EP that pursues the charm of the song itself by removing various elements.
All four songs have a sounds centered on vocals and acoustic guitar, and this work is conscious of a more fundamental direction with the usual otom arrangement kept to a minimum. It's also a feature of this work that the feeling of vocals with multiple layers has changed and emphasized to a pure tone. Each songs are also divided up into arpeggio, two-finger, stroke, and three-finger guitar styles.
A work made with lyrics that look back on the distance between the world and oneself, and sound elements that influenced otom, such as acid folk in the 1960s, experimental pop like John Cale and also shoegaze and alternative sounds. Songs in "Cycle EP" may be a little addictive types.

Lie (Cycle EP, Track3)
A winter song with the theme of good lies and bad lies. Composed in the winter of 2004-2005. The original was recorded in "The Night In The Rainbow" (2005). It is composed of stroke guitar and electric piano phrases, and a sad vocal melody. It was composed to make a dramatic song with slowness and speed. Changed to Japanese lyrics when producing this EP. It is positioned as the last high-pitched "D" song in my life.

This song are rebuild from the EP "The Night In The Rainbow" released on January 1, 2005.

Cycle EP
『Cycle』は夏秋冬春の4つのイメージと4つの演奏スタイルで四季を表現したotomのアコースティック作品。
浮遊感のあるギターサウンドで作品を発表し続けているotomによる、様々な要素を削ぎ落し楽曲そのものの魅力を追求したEP。
4曲のほとんどがボーカルとアコースティックギターを中心としたサウンドとなっており、今作はotom特有の楽曲アレンジは最小限にとどめられ、より根源的な方向を意識している。また今までの楽曲の何層にもレイヤーを重ねたボーカルから、より純粋なトーンへと変化、重視しているのも今作の特徴でもある。アルペジオ、ツーフィンガー、ストローク、スリーフィンガーのギタースタイルでそれぞれの曲のイメージを振り分けられてもいる。世界と自分自身との距離を見つめ返す内容の歌詞とotomが影響を受けた'60年代のアシッド・フォークなどからジョン・ケイル等のエクスペリメンタルポップ、'90年代のシューゲイズ、オルタナティヴシーンなどの要素を至る所に吸収しつつ、少しクセになるタイプの楽曲を並べた一作。

Lie
良い嘘と悪い嘘をテーマとした曲。2004年から2005年の冬に作曲。オリジナルは『The Night In The Rainbow』(2005)に収録。ストロークで演奏されるギターとエレクトリックピアノのフレーズ、切なげなボーカルメロディで編成されている。緩急のあるドラマチックな曲するべく作曲された。このEPを制作する際に日本語歌詞へ変更。人生最後の高音の『レ』の曲に位置付けている。
シンプルなギターストロークの曲ながら、要所に配した決めフレーズと強弱、緩急を重視。2004年の身を切る様な冬の寒い日に出来た曲で、新たに書いた日本語歌詞の内容も同様にある冬の日の出来事を歌っている。
柔らかいトーンのエレクトリックピアノのフレーズとアコースティックギターのストローク、ボーカル、コーラスが同時進行し、終盤にはオルガンによって空間を埋めて行く構成。少ないコードの中でメロディを展開させて行くotom初期作品でも頻繁に登場する手法で、そこから一つのコード展開で得られる最小にして最大の効果の狙いの元に作られている。
若さや無知による出口のない問答が主なテーマとなった歌詞で、そんな意地や幼さの結果失われたものについて歌っている。時が過ぎて初めて気付く決裂の分岐点と後悔、無力さを表現してもいる。また、この曲はEP『The Night In The Rainbow』収録にして2016年に日本語歌詞のシングルとしてもリリースされている『Hidden Sun』とも密接な関係のある曲でもある。ある日見た夢を歌った『Hidden Sun』の歌詞で表現される不安やメタファーがこの曲でも再び登場する。

Dream Away / There is Still Time
"Dream Away / There is Still Time" is otom's single theme about expectation and reality. It composed of two songs with different styles, "Dream Away" with long tail reverse tone and ambience, and "There is Still Time" featuring distortion guitars and tight drums. While keeping the layered vocals and tone that is the style of otom, the beauty of the melody, chord progression, and simplicity of the arrangement are pursued. It was rebuild around ideas from the early 2000s and produced since after the "Cycle EP", released in November 2021. It is a more pop work, absorbing elements of the '60s soft rock, '80s new wave, and alternative scenes that have influenced otom.

Dream Away
A song about expectations and reality. This song was composed around 2003 as an outtake for the first EP "Highlife EP" (2004) and unreleased for a long time. After new lyrics and arrangements, it was re-recorded from the late of 2021. This song composed in the style of repeating chord progressions, one of the characteristics of otom's early works. It has a floating sound with acoustic guitars, e-bows, and flutes mixed with reverse effects. This song strongly inspired by the phrasing and ambience of Cocteau Twins and This Mortal Coil.

『Dream Away / There is Still Time』は理想と現実をテーマしたotomのシングル。尾を引くリバーストーンとアンビエンスが特徴の『Dream Away』、ディストーションギター、タイトなドラムをフューチャーした『There is Still Time』のスタイルの異なる2曲で構成。今までのレイヤーを重ねたボーカルやトーンを維持しつつ、メロディの美しさやコード進行、アレンジのシンプルさを追求。2000年代初頭からのアイデアを中心に再構築、2021年11月リリースの『Cycle EP』直後より制作された。otomが影響を受けた’60年代のソフトロックから’80年代のニューウェーヴ、オルタナティヴシーンなどの要素を吸収しながらも、よりポップに表現した作品となっている。

Dream Away
理想と現実の歌。1st EP『Highlife EP』(2004)のアウトテイクとして2003年頃に作曲して長く未発表だった曲。新たに歌詞を変更、アレンジの末に2021年の終わりより再録音された。otomの初期作品の特徴の一つである、一定のコード進行を繰り返すスタイルで構成。リバースエフェクトとミックスされたアコースティックギターやE-bow、フルートなどで浮遊感のあるサウンドとなっている。Cocteau TwinsやThis Mortal Coilのようなフレージング、アンビエンス感に強く影響を受けている。
