KR$CHN has been tearing apart Soundcloud lately. The burgeoning Chicagoan continues to dabble in genres across the board, keeping things interesting while amassing a unique style of production that is catching the attention of blogs and labels alike. We recently featured “Kylie” on Crack Tracks, which veered more towards the experimental trap side of things, but his most recent single takes his production in a completely different direction while building off the creative sound he has established.

Amidst the lush environs of his northwest roots, https://soundcloud.com/manateecommune (aka Grant Eadie) has fermented an organically molded electronic sound that has been teasing the synapses of audiophiles over the last few years. While not a stranger in the Pacific Northwest, Grant Eadie's tracks have grown tentacles that stretch deep into the dance floor, fueled by natural overtones that he extracts from field recordings. 

Following the head-turning EP 'Thistle' on Brooklyn-based label Bastard Jazz Recordings (Illa J, Lord Echo, & others) from earlier this year Grant comes to the label armed with violin arrangements, nuanced programming and pressure-sensitive LED drum breaks peppering the audio-visual experience of his participatory live performances. His debut album Manatee Commune is set for a September 16th release on Bastard Jazz, and displays the elevated confidence and deft touch of a producer truly finding his footing. Already opening for Bonobo, and recently touring with Chad Valley and Blackbird Blackbird, Manatee Commune has been featured on NPR, Stereogum, and Spin, amongst other outlets. 

Grant’s full length label debut, the self titled Manatee Commune album represents a giant leap forward in terms of sound and songwriting. The album kicks off with “What We’ve Got”, featuring Detroit rising star Flint Eastwood on vocals, showcasing Grant’s shimmering, playful production style. The song was an unlikely summer anthem, garnering over half a million spins on Spotify in the span of just a few weeks.  Further vocal tracks come from two female singers, Marina Price and Moorea Masa – who give the album a sense of cohesiveness and conjure almost a band-like feel, rather than a single producer blindly sending out beats. Lyrics, music and arrangement were at times collaborative efforts between Grant and his chanteuses,  which shines through in the cohesiveness of the vocal tracks.

The Austin based producer, guitarist, and Emmy-winning musician, Derek VanScoten, better known as Cloudchord, has been strategically curating his sound over the years. With infectious guitar solos, and expert productions, many have said that his music crosses through genres of indie, electronic, lo-fi, jazz, shoegaze and more with ease and creates a style that is all his own.

Now, he returns to the plate offering up a funky fresh rendition of Bronze Whale’s “Gold Grain,” featuring Jet Horns, which will also be included on the remix EP dropping in July. The original had a very electronic presence, with bouncing synths and crisp percussion, whereas Cloudchord’s remix chills out the track a bit, while maintaining enough energy to keep your head bobbing and foot tapping.

A soft rhodes piano rings behind Benny’s signature topline, as Derek slowly builds energy and anticipation, while he gently leads you into smooth guitar ladened drops. Birds chirp as the bassline effortlessly grooves along, creating an ambiance you won't want to miss.

‘Need You Now’ is the third single from Dual Manner. ‘Need You Now’ is about being in a one
sided relationship where the other person is distant and does not want to be with you and the
thought process of you realising and not understanding what went wrong. In the last verse and
chorus it then tells the story of being out of the relationship and just coming to terms with what
happened and that maybe your not at fault you have to move on.

In a nutshell, it's about unappreciated love and the feeling of insecurity you feel when going
through it.
