The 28th Chapter sees Djuma Soundsystem team up with Westerby for our latest story in sound: the cosmic afro tech of ‘Disambigua’.

Now based in Copenhagen, Norwegian artist Djuma Soundsystem was catapulted into the public's consciousness over a decade ago with his club classic 'Les Djinns' on Get Physical Music. His organic, sample-heavy signature sound is the perfect combination with fellow Copenhagen artist Westerby’s rougher, analogue synths and techy edges.

‘Disambigua’, their much-anticipated follow up to smash hit ‘Koma Kobache’ (Get Physical), is a standout cut which is already turning heads on dancefloors across Europe with its dark groove and killer vocal hook.

Rising star Jonathan Kaspar (Objektivity, Pets Recordings) is first up on the Editions, where he takes things deep. Built around the interplay of synth lines in call and response, his rework is a pure bass monster.

Meanwhile, label regular KatrinKa marks her latest release on Chapter 24 with an Edition that places the emphasis on a trademark infectious groove, paired with a spiritual melodic motif; a perfect balance of darkness and light.

The package is rounded out by Aaaron. The in-demand producer has worked with everyone from Defected and Get Physical to (more recently) Connected and Yoshitoshi. He focuses on deep, powerful drums in a version heavy on tension.

With this latest Chapter there can be no doubt: four different flavours of ‘Disambigua’ which together add up to a clear and coherent whole.

Lunar Disco, a passion project from Nicolas Blistène & Kate Elsworth team up with fellow French duo Sucré Salé and Raw Main to create a charming three tracker for Kindisch – aptly titled ‘Winterfell.’ The title track first beats its drum patiently as the soundscape builds; a rich tapestry of arpeggiated synth and muted melodies that shimmer in the dawn light like drops of dew on a mountain flower. The French influences of ‘Balkan Consortium’ are unmistakable as charming harmonics chaperone the bouncy groove and the track unfolds to reveal its secrets. This one is made for a floor in waiting, with its roots set firmly in bouncy tech house territory. ‘Make it Beautiful’ calls on the soft melodies of the hang drum to deliver its soothing spirit, with a humble bassline keeping the low end thick as sweet surprises dance on top.

Pale Blue, the duo of Elizabeth Wight and Mike Simonetti, released their debut album to much critical acclaim back in 2015. They come together once again with their latest EP You Stopped Dying due to drop on Crosstown Rebels in February.

“The “You Stopped Dying” ep takes influence from shoegaze groups like Slowdive and My Bloody Valentine and moves it to the dance floor....The result is a strange hybrid that some have called “technogaze”....This would never work if Liz wasn’t such a strong vocalist. Pale Blue is a hypnotic affair, the driving bass sitting perfectly under Wight’s powerful yet ethereal vocals. Daughter of Babylon takes the record into heavier techno territory with its thudding bass and Wight’s breathy vocals delicately layered over the top. On the flip side Love is an unapologetically industrial number with screeching synths that echo around Wight’s vocals.

Simonetti and Wight have each earned their musical stripes in their own rights. Simonetti founded the hugely popular Italians Do It Better as well as his own successful record label, 2MR. He’s released a slew of records on highly regarded imprints such as Me Me Me, Correspondant and Public Release, and enjoys a fruitful career as a touring DJ, which shows no sign of abating. Wight has previously lent her exhilarating vocals to the West Coast band, Silver Hands of which she was once one half of.

Behind Ouïe are Acid Pauli and Nico Stojan, guys who have created these shifts with their music over multiple utopian soirees attracting some of the most colourful and awake people on the planet.
