Max: No I won't. 
Helen: You wont?!
Max: You know how long I've waited to be right here, now that I'm here I'm not just gonna leave, just talk to me let me try, please let me fight for this.
Helen: Ok, Alright, the clinic that I took my mum, they need a new medical director, and they wan't me.
Max: That's great, I'll go back and forth, every other weekend, it's what 6 hours flight? why not? you can do the same, we'll be frequent flyers.
Helen: We can't have a long  distance relationship, not ever having had a short distance one. 
Max: Listen to me, why not, I'm here, now that I've held you, and I've kissed you, and I've humiliated myself in front of the entire neighborhood.
Helen: How have you humiliated yourself?
Max: Hey New York. I love this woman, and now she's trying to dump me.
Helen: Shshshhhh, please max stop.
Max: I'm not gonna stop until you tell me that we're gonna try.
Helen: How?
Max: London, New York back and forth, Tunisia, I don't care any where as long as we're together, please.
Helen: What about Luna?
Max: She can come with me, she's young enough, it's fine, it'll be an adventure for her, it'd be adventure for all of us. I just want you to say that you're willing to fight for this, because if you don't, I'm gonna run through these streets butt naked, I'll do it.
Helen: Ok.. I love you.. I Love you. 

Max: Oh Hi..
Helen: Hi..
Max: How was your flight?
Helen: Sad, upsetting, lonely..
Max: More joy.. that's what I told myself, that's what I've learned.. If anything over these last 18 months, that's what I need.. and that's you.. you're my joy.
Helen: Did you find my replacement?
Max: No one can replace you.. but I think I found someone to replace me..
Helen: What?!!
Max: I'm going with you.. more joy.

Sheherezade
Once upon a time, long ago, there was a brave, smart and charming young woman. She was the daughter of the King’s Prime Minister, and her name was Sheherezade. She possessed the most enchanting voice. People would come from afar to listen to her tell the most captivating stories. 

The Arab King at the time was a mad ruler. He would choose a young woman to marry every night, and at the end of each night, he would send his new wife to be beheaded. Eventually, 3,000 women were killed by the hands of the Arab King. “No woman should ever be trusted,” he would say.

Sheherezade heard about what the King was doing, and one day decided, she would spend a night with the King. Her father objected, but she insisted. She believed that she could put a stop to the killings and wanted to save the rest of the women. She spent the whole night telling the King a story. The King was so enchanted, he asked to hear the ending, but it was the end of the night. Sheherezade told him he will need to wait until the next night to hear the ending. Excitingly, Sheherezade was able to escape the King’s intent to kill her. 

The next night, she finished the story and began a new one, stopping again at the break of dawn. She told the King again, he would need to wait until the next night to hear the ending. Night after night, Sheherezade repeated this storytelling until 1001 nights had passed. She had told him 1001 stories from Aladdin, to Ali Babba, to Sinbad. 

On the 1002 night, Sheherezade ran out of stories to tell to distract the King from wanting to kill her. But the King had changed over this time with Sheherezade. He fell in love with her, and listening to her stories allowed him to grow wiser, more patient, and more kind. The King married Sheherezade and they had three children.

The great composer, Rimsky Korsakov, in his famous ballet, “Sheherezad”, used the violin to portray the voice of Sheherezade and horns to portray the voice of the King. He told the Sheherezade story with music in a wildly imaginative way using many interesting instrumental and orchestral techniques.

This is my own original musical piece and my own interpretation of Sheherezade! I’ve always loved the Sheherezade story and was also inspired by the incredible work of Korsakov. In this piece, I used improvisation as a tool to portray Sheherezade’s voice, mimicking the long suspenseful narrations of the stories she would tell. I also used traditional Middle Eastern instruments, rhythms, and scales, to tell the story in my own way that I’ve always imagined.
