She reminds us of how God will get us to where we’re meant to be and of how essential it is to be rooted in prayer (in the pew or at the gym).

They ponder how humans are more like trees than machines and explore the metaphor of love as disease. Clarkson tells the story of how she ended up with her social media presence, and she shares a bit about her other books The Clubhouse and Aggressively Happy.

The 104th Archbishop of Canterbury Rowan Williams joins Brandon and Hannah to talk about church unity in the face of difference, vocation, and prayer. He explains how to engage in contemplative prayer and offers hope for the future of the church.

21: Christianity in American Politics

Dr. Nadia Kizenko joins Ariana Hones (MDiv '25) in conversation to discuss Kizenko's research on Orthodox liturgy in Ukraine. The conversation is twofold. First, Kizenko explores the liturgical practices of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church and the Orthodox Church of Ukraine. She discusses how these two competing churches, both which can claim canonical status, respond liturgically in times of crisis. Second, Kizenko speaks about her most recent project creating a vesper service and how liturgy functions as a means to include or exclude different identities. Throughout the conversation, Kizenko makes the case for paying close attention to liturgy and the ways in which Orthodox tradition across time provides elements of subversion for its participants.

Orthodox Liturgy as Refuge and Resistance

The global message of this piece is movingly conveyed with pop-like harmonies and simple and accessible vocal lines. The large range of dynamics should be carefully observed, and the crescendos and diminuendos carefully paced. The word ‘know’ is repeated several times: be careful not to move to the ‘ooh’ part of the diphthong until the end of the note. Make sure the middle section is taken quickly enough, and explore a different vocal colour: a darker and richer sonority is needed here.
