If you like head-bobbing grooves, the raw voice of a soul diva and proper funk horns, you'll dig The Exacters' latest groove bag "Ain't Gonna Lie", featuring Roxie Ray. The a-side on this latest edition to the Our Label Records catalogue starts off with an intriguing guitar lick and bilds up to a fully blown soul funk head nodding dance track. 

The Exacters are Guy Kilty (bass), Alex Stevenson (guitar) and Rob Shield (drums) and they make funk in Manchester, UK. For their debut single they drafted in some very special talent. Guy’s former Dojo Cuts bandmate, Roxie Ray, wrote and recorded the storming vocals for Ain’t Gonna Lie. Meanwhile, trumpet supremo Matt Burke arranged and produced the bruising horn parts on both "Ain’t Gonna Lie" and "The Ashes". As for the future, their mission is simple: more uber-tight rhythms, mighty horns, and formidable guest vocalists. Watch out.

Egotrip wurde extra für diese Aufnahme geschrieben und mit dem Jazz-Duo Oddjob live eingespielt. Die Vocals wurden mit der Musik live in einem Take aufgenommen. Diese Aufnahme ist zudem der erste Take. Es wurden ein paar Overdubs für den Chorus gemacht und ein Part hatte außerdem Orgel-Overdubs.

Matasuna Records is delighted to reissue this Peruvian masterpiece by Otto de Rojas - one of the best Piano players from Peru. In 1976 he and his band Los Ultra 76 released this superb single mixing Latin with Funk, Jazz and Disco. Both tracks getting remastered by Carvery Cuts (UK) to provide the best possible sound - even better than on the original 45! A 7inch not to be missed.

Choca Las Caderas keeps its promises: with this tune the hips certainly won't stay still! The song builds its vibe with a funky guitar riff, a groovy bass line and Roja's virtuoso piano playing. The horn section and the vocals drive the tune to its climax: pure fire for the dance floor!

On the flipside there‘s another jewel: Al Ritmo del Bump Bump - a Peruvian cover version of "Soulful Strut" by the US Soul-Jazz band "Young-Holt Unlimited". Otto de Rojas and his Ultra 76's adapt the original in their own groove-oriented way of playing: faster rhythm, amazing wah-wah guitars, layers of electric piano over a funky bass and brass. Another heater for the floors!

Recorded entirely on vintage analogue recording equipment packed into a disused garage in Leeds, the LP features the vocal talents of Gospel-inspired Soul singer Rachel Modest. Taken from The Magnificent Tape Band's forthcoming debut LP “The Subtle Art Of Distraction”, 'Danger' lays down an ominous groove with tuff hooks and a powerful vocal performance from Rachel Modest. 

The Magnificent Tape Band are the alter egos of ATA Records founders Neil Innes & Pete Williams, who were the creative driving force behind the debut album by The Sorcerers, for which they wrote and produced all the tracks as well as contributing bass and guitar performances. Sheffield born, Rachel Modest developed her unique vocal ability within the churches and gospel choirs of her local community. Now based in Leeds, she has developed a powerful and soulful vocal style that takes inspiration from artists such as Madeleine Bell, Dee Dee Warwick, Dusty Springfield and at times delivers a performance that resembles the falsetto of The Delfonics' William Hart.

Taking inspiration from the more abstract end of the Soul spectrum that has been a richly tapped vein for Hip-Hop producers, The Magnificent Tape Band aim to create an evocative tapestry of sound that pulls together Psychedelic Soul with British Library Music to create a distinctly dramatic sounding record. Recorded on original '60s equipment, using vintage instruments, "The Subtle Art Of Distraction" immediately brings to mind the more experimental Psychedelic Soul records of the late '60s and early '70s by incorporating a driving clavinet, loping drums, swirling organ, and vintage Mellotron alongside Rachel Modest's ethereal and powerful vocals.

The record is definitely one to watch out for if you're a fan of the Big Crown Records catalogue, The Sorcerers, Mulatu Astatke, or any form of Soul-inspired Hip-Hop.

With us, it is all about funk, says Legbo, guitarist extraordinaire and head of the freaky funk collective from Hamburg. Brand New U is their debut album and yes, it is very much about finding your direction, and being – or sometimers not being - in peace with yourself and the world around you.

The concept of Uebertribe has been in mind for about 10 years now. At that time I was playing with Diazpora and it was already clear, that we would never be able to finish all ideas that we had - life is short and they were just too many, Legbo recalls. Apparently I needed another funk band, and while touring with a hip hop band,I found a drummer - Martin Kahl - who just felt right.

Uebertribe can be seen as an offspring of Hamburg funk scene - a lively witches brew of underground parties, bands and musicians. Their early pre-incarnation was visible during the legendary We Call It Funk session series in 2011, where they played many unfairly unknown funk treasures including some cover versions of the Nineties German funk band Zappelbude (which consisted of German jazz legends, pianist Robert Di Gioia and drummer Wolfgang Haffner). Same year later - in November 2011 - Uebertribe was born.

The first single, though, in true funk style, was an instrumental. Game Over was released on the Hamburg specialist 7inch label Our Label Records, with a released party hosted in the newly re-opened Mojo Club.

Uebertribe continued playing live but focussed on recording the songs for the debut album, produced by Dennis Rux in his fully analogue Yeah! Yeah! Yeah! Studios. The result is a bona fide funk album, rough and raw. A newly recorded version of Game Over sets the pace, followed by the staccato rhythms of the title track and the slow and badass grooving Shake. After the psychedelic, Asian style and heavy horn excursion of Ying Yang Kutsk Uebertribe show they have some pop appeal with the Prince tribute and first single Purple Pearl.

Don't Treble Me would work well on a late Sixties hippie festival, while the lazy and catchy I Won't Go To Bed lives up to its title. In A Matter Of Seconds takes on some pace and leads towards the furious closing number which is The Thief,sounding like a theme tune of a lost Sixties movie. We have our roots in raw funk. But we also love Afrobeat, P-Funk and Jazz, Legbo explains. To be honest, we try to put some Voodoo on all of it, if you know what I mean.

While Uebertribe now established themselves as a consistent live act and went through some personal changes, drummer Martin Kahl, bassist Daniel Vorpahl and guitarist Legbo started writing their own new songs and added Jamaican born singer Ray Darwin, who has been living and recording in Germany for some years as their fresh regular vocalist not yet featured on Brand New U, but in all future releases and live shows.
