water can flow or creep or drip or crash

These are Bruce Lee’s famous words. But what does it mean to “be water“?  Water flows and adapts. It has no plan, but deals with the environment that it finds and fully explores the space. It has no expectations of what it will find. It forgets when it leaves one space to find the next. And it always remains the same inside even as it flows and adapts outside. 
This relates to the Taoist concept of Wu Wei – knowing when to act and when not to act.  Wu Wei can be translated as “effortless doing” or “effortless action”.  It connects to the Greek concept of “Kairos” – recognising the right moment to act, and knowing in the moment the right way of acting. In order to do this, we must turn inwards and go back to our intuition, and really become good at listening to our  internal voice. This is the path to being water.

In this FREE FLOW dance we are just catching and riding the wave – nothing to know or remember or do. Imagine every song is a new place… fill it, occupy it, inhabit it, embody it. Set your body in motion and let the flow take you… and see if you can allow the changes to be easy by staying in your flow. And when in doubt: BREATHE, SOFTEN AND RELEASE.

Be Water My Friend 30Mar23

"How many various dances of Shiva are known to His worshipers I cannot say. No doubt the root idea behind all of these dances is more or less one and the same, the manifestation of primal rhythmic energy. Whatever the origins of Shiva's dance, it became in time the clearest image of the activity of God which any art or religion can boast of."

In the deep dark forest, among slugs, spiders and squirrels, there are other creatures who once in a year all connect in one place to celebrate and thank nature, dance together and cook a beetroot soup at the fireplace. They talk about distant grounds and irrational life designs, solve their problems, hug each other and dream about a better future. They are fragile and strong, tired and full of energy, disappointed, daydreamers and full of ambitions. 

They like to jump and get crazy, but also like to sit down and take a sip of sekko soziale with a pear juice, they like to run in circles or make a little contact dance, hold each other close or dance a little swing - so I wanted to take them on a journey and make a set, which would have as many facets as a young soul who landed in the garden of Tandava that night. So there is a mix of dreamy ambient, hypnotic funky disco sounds, psychodelic folk, thought provoking lyrics, electronic music from all over the world born in different decades, and whatever else musical styles which have landed in this ecstatic set which made many forest beings dance and smile.

So, have fun and dance, listen until the end and remember "we could do well to a listen sometimes, and not to shout around about things we know nothing about"

After a long time.... "Come wander with me." This week's frequency is mixed by Tugce Kurtis.
Originally from Istanbul, Turkey, Tugce grew up with a love for music, especially music performance. Since joining her school choir at age 6, she has performed as a singer in countless occasions and more recently started song-writing and music production. Tugce has collaborated with Paraguayan musician and producer Santi on three albums: Cíclico (2014), Songs for Another Day (2015), and El Regreso del Gallito (2016).
Her musical interests cross genres and continents. In this special set for “Our Deep Movement”, she explores mellow, minimal, soulful sounds from different corners of the world.
