This mix contains many unreleased tracks I have made over the past year. This is my second year to live in Shenzhen after moving from the Midwestern United States. My wife and in laws are from Guangdong, and we made the move last year. Shenzhen is a place of many extremes; fast paced hi-technology, hyper capitalism and consumerism mixed with feelings of urban alienation and solitude amongst crowds and hordes of people. I like the variety of people here and the different emotions from being here. A place where people overwork to the point of exhaustion or death but also a place where people rest in peace and comfort. A green landscape with trees and blue sky punctured with an almost cyberpunk feeling of constant rain, heat and buildings towering into heaven. This mix I hope captures that feeling, as living here thus far has been an inspiration and allowed me to create some of my best work.

Bio-
Kagami Smile is from an Industrial city in Illinois but currently resides in Shenzhen, China. He mixes sometimes fast and slow-paced ambient techno music with blasts of drone and shoegaze inspired noise. His outpouring of work over the past few years has been shown on acclaimed labels such as Opal Tapes as well as Vill4in, Dream Catalogue, and many others. He will release a work this year on Guangzhou’s Jyugam label. His music reflects a series of recurring dreams about a missed moment with a stranger and features compositions of urban solitude and beauty on the brink of collapse. He has played live many times over the past year in such places as Hong Kong, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, as well as Tokyo, Hojo, and Osaka Japan.

This release captures the essence of mid-’90s hardcore — raw, uncompromising, and born from the fusion of two of the scene’s most influential forces: the Italian Traxtorm Studio and the Dutch Neophyte Studio. The result is a record that sounds both technically precise and emotionally fierce — a perfect snapshot of an era when hardcore was still pure, rebellious, and real.

The A-side, known as “Get This Mutherfucker”, wastes no time. An aggressive, razor-sharp kick tears through the silence, joined by industrial percussion that feels like metal clashing on concrete. From the very first bar, the tension rises — this isn’t music to simply listen to, it’s music to experience. The track breathes raw attitude: distortion, staccato synths, and that unmistakable hammering 909 kick that defined the gabber sound. This is hardcore at its purest — energetic, dark, and unapologetically real.

The atmosphere is intense, like being lost in a dark warehouse where the strobes flash and the bass shakes your chest while the crowd moves as one. It’s the sound of a generation that spoke its truth through kicks and samples, far removed from the mainstream.

What makes this record stand out is how it blends two worlds: the Italian precision and melodic edge of Traxtorm with the gritty, industrial power of Neophyte’s Dutch roots. That contrast gives the production a timeless quality — raw yet layered, hard yet full of character.

A track like “Get This Mutherfucker” isn’t just a song; it’s a piece of hardcore history. A reminder of a time when producers pushed every boundary, and ravers felt every kick like the beating heart of their culture.
