Thank you for downloading Borrowed Voices. This marks my second full length album and let me say it has been a journey. I'd like to thank my beautiful partner in grime Elisabeth Marcoux. Elis you've helped me produce this album from start to finish, your late nights spent with me hashing out sounds, your ideas, vision and over all concept of each track has been a blessing and I am the luckiest person on Earth just having you in my life. Elis you've been there through it all you were my rock every time I had to dismantle my laptop and cook the mother board in the oven. You were there when I would learn something new and we both would dance around the room, you've seen it all and I love you dearly for everything you do. I'd also like to thank David Guzman for seeing something bigger in my music and helping me achieve many of my dreams I look forward to our continued journey as it has been purely amazing and quite the learning experience; I love you bro. I'd like to thank the one and only Mike Nasser for helping me with post production ideas, mixing concepts and mastering! Believe me, this album wouldn't have sounded the way it does today if it weren't for all of your amazing studio tricks and techniques. Mike you've been a great friend and advocate for this album. Even during the dark times when I truly felt things would never come to fruition you were there pushing me forward. Sean Snarr you are part of the team homie. Your insight's have been perfectly timed and you remained the only other person to hear this album besides Elis and I. Lastly I'd like to thank Andrew Hilman. Andrew you've been a great friend through out the years and all I can say is you keep being you. 

I don't wish to sound drab here but, the past two years have been an ebb and flow of many amazing times and an equal amount of hard times for a lot of us, including myself. I feel this album really demonstrates where I am at and I hope it helps the healing process. I've lost amazing friends to truly tragic events and have gained many friends through these hard events as well. I am dedicating this album to a true friend and mentor in my life. A man who taught me how to play guitar when I was 16 and got me totally hooked on music. His name was Timothy Carter and I can not think of another person who's inspired me more; he pushed me to play better and to think outside of the box, he taught me how to shred and he was a great and brilliant friend. What happened to Tim and his Mother made my heart stop and it will hurt for the rest of my life. I will miss them both and hope they are at peace. As Tim would often say, "music creates crop circles in your soul."

Going into this album I thought about creating a record that was more organically created outside of my mac book. I have been a guitar player, a bassist, a drummer, a keyboardist, and I wanted to create an album where I could use those elements and incorporate the future sounds without it sounding forced. I recorded a ton of drums and used those beats on the entire album. Midway through the album we moved into a house out of town and on the lake I took full advantage of a 1926 Chicago Company full scale upright piano that was beautifully tuned and restored. I wrote most of everything on this piano first and recorded all the pianos with it too. I recorded everything I could on anything I could get my hands on and just went for it. At times I felt like I was the whole band which is something Ive been wanting to do for a long time, playing both producer and studio musician. I plan on many more records done in this way because I enjoyed the freedom of it. As things currently stand though Borrowed Voices has officially killed my laptop. I nursed it through the final steps and can say with confidence that I can now strip a mac book pro down to the mother board in 20 minutes (although I'd much rather not anymore). Right now we are going over ideas how to tour this record. Don't fret though I have an external hard drive and faith that things will work out. I am very happy to gotten this far! We hope to receive donations from supporters through the website which should help with the cost of things and hope to start touring again as soon as possible. I wouldn't have believed you ten years ago if you told me music would bring me to such amazing places, so who knows, I might have a full on Nation wide tour and another full length album out in the next six months. Stranger things have happened :) 

Before I close my letter I'd like to give thanks to all my supporters, you are the ones who keep me positive when things are hard. You are the ones who take me higher when things are going amazingly well. I really love your kind emails, they bring much joy to my heart. I love seeing the good you all do everyday, it  continues to restore my faith in the Universe. Please keep writing and sharing your stories with me and please keep sharing your love, it is very important that we continue to be good to each other and bring light to the darkest of places. Remix for Pretty Lights Around The Block. Hope you enjoy this throw back. A few years back I entered a contest to remix this track for Pretty Lights it was great to play around with the raw tracks he gave us to work with I learned a lot about instrument mixing and came in 3rd place all in all it was great and today my mood feels just like it did then the sun is out and life is good. Around The Block (Outlet Remix)

I'd like to thank the guys at Wobblesauce Cody Rountree, Jake Boynton and Michael McCarthy for having me on the remix EP for What Does This Button Do. I really enjoyed taking myself out of my element and feel I've created something that blends my style with theirs. It was a lot of fun getting into it coming from a rock influenced background doing a track like this really allowed me space to explore the styles of rock and electro while mixing it with some womp. It was great playing guitar, bass and drums too it has been a while since I've performed anything like this and who knows there might even be an Outlet Wobblesauce collaboration in the future.

I will be performing at Good Life in Boston MA on March 12th for the official remix EP release party and will be joined by the other artist who are remixing tracks for this EP.

Digital Adolescence

Jon Belfontaine (Outlet) is a self taught glitch hop producer and multi instrumentalist from NH. Outlet released his first full length album “Borrowed Voices” on December 21 2013 as a follow up to his 2012 EP “Twilight” and to celebrate the one year anniversary of the end of the World. 

He began playing the guitar at age 13. Like many guitarists from NH his main influence was alternative rock, and after being gifted his first guitar he taught himself songs he heard on the radio. Once he became aware of electronic music however the concept fascinated him. The idea of blending his favorite musical genres and the unlimited possibilities that can come from a pair of headphones and a synthesizer set off an electric spark and from that moment on he began experimenting with making original electronic music with psychedelic melodies, and hypnotic tones empowered with heavy bass lines.

Outlet has collaborated with Pretty Lights Music (PLM) artist Michal Menert on his 2014 release “Even If It Isn’t Right” on the track “Drift By”. He placed second in Pretty Lights’ online remix contest for the track “Around The Block” in 2014, remixed PLM artist Eliot Lipp’s track “SeaTac Arrival” in 2015 and has opened for Pretty Lights on the Episodic Music tour in 2016. 

Outlet was on a hiatus from releasing music and touring from 2018-2020 and had been working on a new record during that time and focusing on his family. In 2020 he had been booking shows and had released a couple of singles but when Covid happened he continued work on his upcoming record and began doing live stream performances on his social media you can still find the live streams on his Facebook page. 

Outlet is currently releasing singles in 2021 and booking shows in the New England area as Covid are being lifted. He looks forward to the release of more music and getting back on the road and sharing his passion with all the friends again.
