Boiler Room's first show in Lyon in four years tapped into harder techno stylings with performances from two leading figures in the scene, CLTX and Alignment.

An exercise in the art of restraint, @carmenelectr0 cited a desire to expand beyond her club persona into a more delicate world she has mostly only appreciated in private. A longtime fan of Ricardo Villalobos, Mr. G, and other pioneers of dubby minimalism, she recorded this mix entirely on vinyl, drawing from more secluded corners of her collection to share tracks that have rarely made it into her sets. Though still recognisably sentimental at its core, she stated an intention to present house and techno cuts that meander through more subtle shades of emotion, whilst hinting at a new direction for upcoming creative projects.

Deep, hypnotic and nostalgic, Carmen channels the gentler B-sides and ambient undercurrents that have shaped her off-duty listening away from the booth. From the "don't think, just listen" spirit of Markus Suckut and the humidity of Roman Poncet to nthng’s near-spiritual finale, the mix is glossy, tactile, and surreal: sixty minutes adjusted to cruise control along the softer edges of her universe.

Carmen Electro (Dub Techno, Dub House, Atmospheric) | OUTOFCHARACTER #005

Originally recorded as a test run for a performance at Halle am Berghain, this fifty minute mix shimmers with a fantastical sense of depth as though peering from the precipice into an endless, velvet void. Wild, tender and dramatic all at once, a combination of drums, modular hardware and electronic instruments breathe a paradoxical entity into existence, reflecting back the shifting face of nature's discordant beauty and menace through samples, ritualistic synth lines and pads.

Varying between lightness and weight in her footsteps, @beste-hira walks the road less taken, drifting into an internal world that is both submerged and self-reflective - suspended at moments like a snapshot capturing fragments of her own free-fall.

Spontaneous, raw and intense, @oguz808 recanted how this two hour recording came to be at the tail end of some days awake from an exhausting schedule. Created in the company of close friends at his home in Amsterdam just over a year ago, the mix tracks a decade of selections all the way from his nascent years frequenting the likes of London's Corsica Studios to hidden gem discoveries that he collected either on the road, alone in the studio or in the many overlooked liminal zones between. 

Despite the blur of where such tracks were found, this set is sharp, definitive and earnest - a melodic and emotive showcase demonstrating the sheer panoramic scope of his musical knowledge. Another side to an illuminary figure in the hard techno scene, he has specially gifted this intimate private recording from his hard drive today for public consumption.

Departing from her usual techno blueprint, STEYA guides us through an hour exploring warmer, groove-led fringes of the house music spectrum for episode eight. Built around tightly-programmed drums, chord-driven movement and classic vocal engineering, the mix highlights a side of her taste rooted in a more gentle type of bounce, syncopation and levity rather than the known intensity of her sets in the club.

From the analog glow of Omar-S and Basic Channel’s dubby Round Two alias to Deetron’s high-definition synth work and Adryiano’s jackin’ structures, the Berlin-based artist takes an uplifting detour from her accustomed sound, and prompts a joyful look at another part of her extended home catalogue.

Across sixty minutes of functional and floor-tested selections, STEYA leans into rhythmic clarity, low-end discipline and the kind of melodic detailing that defines house in its most enduring form. Tuck in.

For episode nine, ANNĒ recalibrates into a more placid region of her musical world with a hybrid CDJ and vinyl mix, tumbling through ambient openings, modular flourishes and break-leaning electronica. Early selections from Planetary Assault Systems and Jeff Mills adjust the camera to a cinematic, minimal terrain before repositioning into analogue-tilted IDM and Detroit futurism from Aphex Twin, Adlas and Underground Resistance.

Hints of house warm the palette and quieten external chatter via Kerri Chandler’s rework of Nina Simone, the effortless groove of LADYMONIX, and melodic moments from Volpe to Dying & Barakat. It’s a soft, detailed blend built for the in-between hours: slow, protracted mornings, delicate afternoons, and undisturbed evenings when the calendar is empty and alarms are finally switched off.
