No seriously, we're amped that we are able to release this EP by the self proclaimed "regional tiddlywinks champion" and "all-round beige sky thinker" Clive.
Who says office workers are drones? Loitering around the coffee machine surely has had no bad effect on his creative juices!

When we got an email from Clive with a demo called 'Bisou' we were blown away. Production quality was top notch and it really stood out from what came in our inbox.
So over the course of a year we asked him to fill out an EP next to his busy work schedule. The end result is a record with three very strong tracks, each with its own character.
'Keep Movin' is perfect for big dance floors and filthy sweaty clubs and 'The Trouble With Clive' has that beefy garage thing going on.
With a name like 'Bisou' you'd expect something kissy kissy, but it's a floaty warm, stabby breaks affair with nods to the classic deep sound.

Ahhh, we need you to go ahead and buy this stunner on limited edition wax. So um, yeah if you could do that, that'd be great. Oh, and next Friday is Hawaiian shirt day.

Our lucky 13th release is here! We have a powerful serving by Russian team Scruscru meets Meowsn. Both have really cool releases under their belt on Sloth Boogie, Nómada, Nurvous & Star Creature Universal Vibrations. So us at Outplay are very excited to bring you “Surr Rendez-Vous EP”!
A patchwork of creative sampling, wonky jazz chords and powerful synth melodies with a small sprinkling of tongue-in-cheek makes for a super cool four tracker. The story of the tracks made us reminisce of the rise of the loose beat, broken house of a few years back, while this one still feels very contemporary.
Being a firm believer of letting the music speak for itself: enjoy!

Scruscru Meets Meowsn - Surr Rendez-Vous EP

Following in the footsteps of Outplay’s offshoot 24 Carrot’s number one iteration published last year, Fouk & Junktion are back with the second volume in their carotenoid-rich series - again soberly titled, ’24 Carrot #2’. Known for their juicy blends of low-slung house and tribal funk, the Dutch duo take an outright peppy shot at the news threads’ continuous doom-and-gloom with four delectably carefree cuts that’ll boost your lockdowned arses to proper upward feelings.

Moving the cursor from Afro polyrhythms to sample-heavy house and everything in between, ’24 Carrot #2’ serves up a quartet of jacuzzi-warm treats, starting with the fun-loving ‘Winner Winner’ - an effervescing, Fela-meets-Ethiopian-jazz-inflected fusion of groovy piano, percussive friskiness and further classic Chicagoan-derived programming.

True to the classic filtered house recipe, tasty slab ‘Chicken Dinner’ gets the vibes flowing and swing swirling cheeky-fowl-style, with its savvy mixture of snappin’n’slappin' cello, straight shuffling patterns and FX-altered vox sampling.

Flip sides and here comes Junktion with the piquant ‘Mustard’ - a breaksy, drum-driven number merging pizzicato’d punk-funk with typical padded deep-house atmospherics and further wonky downtempo electronics.

Rounding off the package is the rewarding after-dinner ’Smokes’, better tasted with a glass of quality whiskey in one hand and a flock of friends by the dancefloor. Taking us on a helluva cinematic, B-movie-friendly jaunt, Fouk & Junktion dish out a fine blend of acidulous bass, rowdy boogie and solid cosmo-discoid pulse pouring over from distant spaces, as they keep the swing-o-meter ticking its way smack dab in the incendiary zone.

He’s the founder of Cognitiva Records and has a monthly residency on the ever-growing Universal Rhythms. His sounds can be found on Banoffee Pies Records, Yam, Ini Movement, Tusk Wax, Broken District, Omena, and Anma. Up and coming Italo talent XL Regular hails from Rome, and operates with the dancer firmly in mind. He’s been making a name for himself by skilfully mixing and cleverly blending a myriad of elements of jazz, hip hop, and jungle, all squeezed into broken beat. Together Piero Paolinelli and Alessandro Giacchi have released previously on Omena, ANMA, Cognitiva, INI Movement, Nómada and Monologues.

Sofatalk & XL Regular have come up with a wonderful jazzy EP for Outplay. Filled with warm chords and broken house beats. Italy’s Piero Paolinelli and Alessandro Giacchi are the newest addition to our Outplay family. They have released music previously on Omena, ANMA, Cognitiva Records (Sofatalk’s own label), INI Movement, Nómada and Monologues. 

Their EP for Outplay is called Afro Quarters EP and contains 4 electronic jazz funk infused house tracks and make for a perfect testimony of their musicianship.

Rumble Strip kicks off with broken beats turning into a 4x4 house beat filled with percussion, dreamy keyboard licks and sultry vocals to underline the floaty vibe. The title track, Afro Quarters, is up next pushing us further into their signature jazz infused broken beat house style. With the funky bassline and the stabby keys it’s hard not to move. Throw in tastefully done flute and Rhodes solos for the mature sound they’re known for.

The third piece is called Easy and contrary to its name it’s not as chilled out as you’d think. It’s incredibly groovy, with heavy staccato bass and keys, while keeping the dreamed out jazzy chords to balance it out. It makes us think of the masterful work of Kaidi Tatham. “On The Run” concludes the EP and continues the vibe displayed throughout the release filled with arpeggiated and stabby keys and vocal bits.

Fouk's @Outplay label has been home to some of our favourite EP's of the last few years. It's a label which always focusses on quality over quantity delivering EP's which are perfectly now but equally are just enough out there to help nudge the scene forward. Italian producers @sofa-talk and @xlregular's Afro Quarters EP fits perfectly in this modus operandi.

The EP features four tracks of club edged jazz infused broken beat. It's a sizzling proposition and another rather brilliant addition to the Outplay discography.

Outplay’s third vinyl release will be from young Mancunian artist Loz Goddard. With releases on Large Music and Editorial he has been making a great impression with his combination of disco and beatdown house. A well balanced blend between samples and synth work makes this a varied EP and a great showcase for Loz’s sound. Outplay’s own Fouk takes care of the remix, turning the lush “It Will Come To Me” into a solid dance floor track with added bass line groove.

While Junktion brings his familiar grooves with the jazzy “Breakfast at Midnight”, Brame & Hamo flip it into a dubby stomper to heat up the floors. We recon it’s time for a full Junktion EP on Outplay! You can say Wide Awake is an appropriate title after a wonderful 2015 with a string of EP’s on Sleazy Beats, Razor-n-Tape and Rose Records. This four tracker explores the sound he’s been developing over the years and even touches a newer side. The EP opens with the title track “Wide Awake” and embodies the signature Junktion sound with a summery balearic touch. “What We Are” is a faster synth laden affair coupled with his usual sample action. “Sunny Side Up” is what the title says it is, a sunny disco track driven by a groovy bassline and a funky rhythm guitar. The EP closes down with “Don’t Mess Up” for a more contemplative jazzy track with some smooth sampling and afro touches.

The return of master Loz to Outplay! After releasing strong stuff on labels like Razor-n-Tape, Quintessentials and Quartet Series and some recent remix action on Melbourne’s Kyoku, monsieur Goddard has made a new EP for us as a perfect follow-up to his 2015 Loose Jams!
He presents a wonderful EP of three varied tracks showcasing his prowess in combining synths and sampled bits. First up is uptempo discofied “Hazy”, which builds well on the sound he’s become known for. On the flip there’s deep dusty chugger “Peaches” and sweet, sweet melodies in synthy groover “Murmur” to provide a proper close to the EP!

Rule of Three EP

@justsayfouk might have been curating Outplay since 2013, but their ‘Butterfunk EP’ is in fact the duo’s first proper EP on their own imprint. It’s not that they’ve been resting on their laurels: they’ve dripfed a handful of EPs on the likes of Heist and House of Disco over the past few years, and released solo efforts on Kolour Ltd and Razor ’n Tape that stormed the charts. It’s been fascinating to see the Dutch pair slowly break the mould, moving from heavy sampling in favour to an emphasis on original instrumentation and production.

The Butterfunk EP is a fine showcase of their prowess in the studio, loaded to the hilt with contemporary dancefloor funk. Things kick off with the rolling drums, off-beat percussion and seriously infectious Hammond lines of Organ Freeman. Title track Butterfunk is aimed squarely at the hips with its smooth keys and perfectly placed vocal, while some acid lines give the track a little edge. 

Flip over for the bumping ‘Wong Way’, a chunky workout with a rubber bassline. The finale of the EP is ‘Winter’, a fantastic slice of 80’s inspired downtempo mushroom jazz.

For the first release of 2018 we welcome @harrywolfman to the Outplay family! Having followed his work for the last couple of years we’re very happy to have him deliver this varied 4-tracker, which very well might be some of his best work to date.

The a-side starts off with ‘Hitch’. A warm and dusty groover driven by rhodes, a rubbery bassline and a thudding kick. A lovely string piece in the middle of the track slowly builds up to the break for it to return to the head nodding groove soon after. The added percussion gives it a nice lively feel as well.
‘Pigs in Blankets’ sets the pace a little slower, but the funk goes on. The track incorporates 80’s style samples with some excellent synth and chord work. Perfect for a warm up session.

Starting on the b-side Harry takes it up a notch with ‘Nemoto’, which will be a definite stomper for the dance floor. It takes you on a 9 minute journey of rolling bumpy basslines, screaming distortion leads and hypnotising synth work. 
Finally, to ease things off, STS-136 (Final Call) comes in at a slow 88 bpm pace as a perfect closure to the EP. Dreamy pads, piano licks and a calming marimba melody combined with a beat which feels like a warm blanket will make you wander off for a moment..

After their Butterfunk EP from last year, @justsayfouk are back again with their new offering “Mating Call EP”. As the name suggests, this three track EP is made for the hot & heavy moments while dancing away, during those infinite summer days.

The title track “Mating Call” is a funky beast, driven by a very infectious bassline and live instrumentation, edging the line between disco and house, as has we have come to expect from the duo. The next track on the flip furthers the fact that this release is all about the groove. Housey vibes with a classic hint, Rhodes floating on a solid rolling funk bass. “Just Feel Good”? Yup!

Finally we come to “Down Below”. You might wonder “what’s down below?”. Well, there you can find a dreamy thumper, driven by the compact kick, repeating drone and deep bassline, while the synth pads in the middle tie it all together.

The new Outplay release is by young and upcoming dj/producer @cleanfieldmusic, or “Jelle” as his mom calls him. Hailing from Arnhem, the Netherlands, it’s always great to see another talent pop up in the Dutch scene! He has made three super catchy tracks for us, perfect for the summer season! 

First up is the title track “Haute Cuisine”, warm bouncy bass topped with a super infectious lead melody and percussion. If there is a track more suited for the festival season it’s this one for sure! 
“Hot Wheels” races on with a deep rolling groove, fuelled by wahwah rhythm guitars, warm synth chords and arpeggios. 
“Conflict With Clayton” brings another solid groove to the table with scattered vocal samples and multiple synth layers. Scorcher! 

So imagine dancing your ass off to this EP in the sun and feeling fantastic, we sure are!

Known for their juicy blends of low-slung house and tribal funk, the Dutch duo take an outright peppy shot at the news threads’ continuous doom-and- gloom with four delectably carefree cuts that’ll boost your lockdowned arses to proper upward feelings.
