For the next edition of our InSession series, we deliver a mix from a Colombian artist that is very much on the up and up. His co-founded Void From Above imprint has, since launching, been a meeting point for the burgeoning South American electro sound that has emerged to encompass the underground. His own sets positively drip with attitude, minor chord madness, and a swagger that is seldom replicated in quite the same way. Stripped grooves, mean basslines and minor synths are the order of the day (and night) and Samuel’s releases for the likes of Positive Future Music, Cymatix, Genie In A Bottle, Blkmarket Music, and Antam Records way back when.

For Samuel’s recording, we find him in blistering form as he is taking apart Video Club in his native Colombia. His closing set is as absolute as they come and positively bristles with the edgy, raw energy that has become one of the emerging sounds of the region. No prisoners are taken with an onslaught of banger after banger and the crowd lap it up and are kept locked in until well after the lights come on.

Of all of the songs dropping during this year's Spooky Week, this has a very good chance of being the "spookiest."  Not the scariest, not the most horrifying, and, ironically, not necessarily the darkest...

...but, spooky?  This is damn spooky.  

Interbay points itself directly into the heart of darkness and explores the "Absence of Light"--and what it finds there is a James Earl Jones-esque voice narrating the situation where fear and desire merge and multiply each other.  

"In the absence of light, we'll have to rely on our OTHER senses" is a phrase that has never before had such inherent sexual tension surrounding it.  

Still, this isn't a song that would benefit some adult bedroom time--this is a song for a very dark dancefloor and whatever you might find there to explore.  There is a menace and a growing density of risk on that dancefloor that is as exciting as it might be terrifying.  

...and when I put this song together, I didn't think twice--I immediately put this on the special shelf in The Vault of Phantom Laboratories West where I keep tracks that should only be unleashed into the world during Spooky Week.    And now, it emerges...just in time.
