This album is a global effort to connect the different tribes and scenes around the world to come to a more openminded and sustainable human society.

The music was contributed by members of the Tribal Bass FB group;

and compiled and mastered by Hentopan aka dustrickx, a tribal bass promotor from Belgium.

For easter 2021 ( on 4/4 this year) we release this new compilation with the best in tribal bass music as a dedication to the group and the entire scene and a way to cross international boundaries and bring together the world in a year of reconnection.

Tribal Bass is a mixture of genres ranging from styles using idm-ish breakbeats and fusion trip-hop over ethnic instrumentals, global trap to psy-dub, experimental bass and glitch-hop. It is known as a danceable downtempo style for psy-heads and nu-school hippies and is usually plaid at chill out or second stage areas in European psychedelic festivals, but it also hits the main stages in US, AU, NZ and Can. Presenting the debut Outtallectuals EP from the Le Comte Champêtre project by French musician, Pacôme Nivon; ‘Ephemerides’ is a 5-track journey representing the change and characteristics of seasons which is being released on the Winter Solstice. The EP starts with ‘Iarnă’ to signify the winter, taking inspiration from Romanian communist music, with the participation of Lea Clement on the violin. 

‘Por El Rio Va’ is inspired by Gamelean Indonesian music, and takes place between winter and spring to represent the melting of ice running down the mountains.The jazzy tones of ‘Vorvakning’ symbolise the jubilance of natural renewal with upbeat concepts, while the warmer Balkan / Middle Eastern tones of Alsayf take us into the summer heat. . Certain motifs in Alsayf are inspired by El Hilwa Di, a composition by the music of Palestinian artist, Ramzi Aburedwan. 

The EP closes with Hovvi Mazurkan which returns the saudade of shortening days in Autumn, utilising a 7/4 edition of a mazurka groove, settling the album back to the origins of its cycle.

“Wakeful” is the debut album by  @NicolasHaquin via  @Outtallectuals  label, featuring +20 collaborating musicians. Composed, refined, & meticulously crafted over 2 years, ‘Wakeful’ is a culmination of deeply personal emotions as they intertwine with the expression of collaborating artists who bring their instrumental, production or vocal expertise to the experience. 

The album explores the liminal states between wistful & cheerful, defeated & optimistic, focused & wandering, & isolated & connected. Sonically, the album’s genres span an eclectic yet continuous thread along organic downtempo, future garage, deep dubstep, lo-fi & jazzhop, nature-inspired ambient, IDM & world music. 

The album’s darker songs, namely the stomping High Dude collaboration, ‘Starless’, the psychedelia of ‘Smoke And Mirrors’ with Maynix & Chalky, & Middle Eastern experimental garage of ‘Dark Skis’ with Three Oscillators & Adam Maalouf, are balanced with more introspectively neutral tones of ‘Daydream’ with IOM, & onto the more triumphant & resolving tones of ‘Sequence’, ‘Through the Trap Door’ & ‘Glow’.
