Organized by Echoes of Seoul,‘The Awakening’ is a series of events that promotes local DJs in Seoul. On October 3rd, we are gathering for Volume 2 of The Awakening that will feature 4 DJs: Syffre, Soseol, Song Vera and Sisyphus.

In the second volume, we introduce the concept of self-affirmation through Techno; a genre that encompasses a wide-ranging set of emotions from the calm and meditative to the raw and primal. It's a genre that thrives when you let it take over the mechanical nature of the body.

‘The Awakening’is about celebrating some of the unique attributes of Techno as a way of metamorphosis. The exploration of who you are as a person, the understanding of the human condition, to the search for your true self.

Korean artist Soseol is a founder of the underground music label "Amament Records" and he had made several musical events and project albums through years with the dedicated focuses on the cultural diversity of electronic music scene of South Korea.

He has his own point of view about "Techno" as a part of whole "Electronic Music" itself, and his performances and tracks keep express on those kind of progressive aspect.

Composed of a variety of designed sounds, his works emanate sensibly and intensely, stirring people’s emotions by grafting original creation of elemental sources and independent standards. Soseol’s intrinsic self-expression and central message are deeply embodied in his works.

Californian native Taylor Freels has been shaping dancefloors for some time and in a past life under the name Urulu has had quite an impact our community. Having shelved the project momentarily a new alias has sprouted in the form of Liquid Earth. With countless bangers already under his belt Taylor is a core member of many taste making collectives, Butter Side Up, Kalahari Oyster Cult all benefit from his refined dancefloor focused style. Not staying in one place for too long but more than happy to revisit certain time periods in house music but with a revised vigour and wide eyed appreciation for the love that has gone into the original source material. 서울을 기반으로 활동하는 디제이/언더그라운드 활동가 Djilogue는 서울의 언더그라운드 클럽 ‘vurt’의 디렉터, 앰비언트 팟캐스트 시리즈 '꿈 kkum’의 큐레이터, 그리고 실험음악과 테크노를 다루는 디제이로 활동하고 있다. Djilogue는 언더그라운드의 개념을 본질적으로 탐구하고 미지의 영역을 탐험하고 있으며, 테크노, 앰비언트, 실험음악에서 비롯되는 다양한 리듬과 새로운 사운드를 소재로 독창적인 디제이 세트를 들려주고 있다.

Seoul-based DJ/underground activist Djilogue is the director of Seoul's underground club vurt, curator of the ambient podcast series 꿈 KKUM, and a DJ specializing in experimental and techno music. Djilogue is essentially exploring the concept of underground and exploring uncharted territories, and he plays unique DJ sets with various rhythms and new sounds from techno, ambient, and experimental music.

Victor Aguinaga aka Chicagodeep a Chicago native who grew up on the South Side of the city. His first years that got him into House music was at the age of 11. House music was played on various radio stations across the city. He would stay up late nights just to record the mixes.

As he grew older at the age of 14 he decided to be a House DJ/ He started playing various house parties and raves in the mid ninenties.

In 2011 Victor decided to take his career a step further and learning the ropes of music production. His debut came in 2012 with label partner and good friend Taelue on a Spanish label called Minuendo Recordings. 

2013 Victor decided to start his own label with good friend Taelue and released their first release with Specter & Linkwood. His first album with Taelue will be released in 2016 entitled Metaphoric Expression.

Korean artist Soseol is a founder of the underground music label "Armament Records" and he had made several musical events and project albums through years with the dedicated focuses on the cultural diversity of electronic music scene of South Korea. He has his own point of view about "Techno" as a part of whole "Electronic Music" itself, and his performances and tracks keep express on those kind of progressive aspect.

His first track of this mix includes his latest remix track "Zeemen - No Help (Soseol Remix)". this track was released recently (26th of June) on "Hexa Records" and as a remixer of this track, Soseol approached new workflow of his own like re-creating stuff within the inspiration of the track. his complex design of acid synth is massive but has tremendous details on it, and its repeated patterns hypnotizes us. and he also participated the soundtrack of the movie "REAL" and those tracks are fierce and primitive musical material. He showed his another aspect of musical talent through his work as an "Additional Sound Remixer" in the making of the film.

Soseol 은 언더그라운드 레코드 레이블 "Armament Records" 를 창립 / 운영하며 국내외 여러 아티스트들과 다양한 공연을 기획하고 앨범을 제작하는 등 국내 전자음악 시장의 유행이 아닌 문화적인 자리매김에 진중성과 다양성을 제시한 아티스트이다, "Techno" 라는 대 장르를 틀에 박힌 이미지로써 가 아닌 "전자음악" 자체로써 이해하는데 그 뜻이 분명한 소설은 발매된 트랙들과 그의 공연에서 고스란히 드러나듯이 유동적이면서도 그만의 아이덴티티가 있는 일렉트로닉 뮤지션이다.

Soseol 의 Oslated Mix 첫 번째 곡은 그가 가장 최근에 작업한 리믹스 트랙 "Zeemen - No Help (Soseol Remix)" 이다.  최근 발매 (6월 26일) 된 "Hexa Records" 아티스트 Zeemen 의 EP 앨범 리믹서로 참여하여 기존의 리믹스 방식에서 벗어나, 직접 듣고 느낀 '영감' 을 살려 자기만의 방식과 사운드로 새로운 트랙을 만들어 내었다. 복잡하게 디자인된 애시드 신스는 웅장하지만 메인에서 벗어난 다채로움 이였고 패턴은 단일화되어 귀에 맴돌아 강하게 메아리친다. 6월 28일 개봉되었던 영화 "REAL (리얼)" 에서 영화음악 O.S.T 제작과, "Additional Sound Remixer" 로 참여하면서 좀 더 원초적인 사운드를 메이킹하는데 심혈을 기울이며 얻은 그의 또 다른 결과물이라 할 수 있다.

‘ A sense of relief ‘
나의 시선과 발걸음이 오랜 시간 멈추는 곳에는 언제나 그 끝에 자연의 풍경이 있다. 계절에 따라 새로운 옷을 입으며 변하지만, 늘 그 자리에 존재한다. 나는 그 안에서 자연의 다양한 존재들을 의식하며 교감하고, 우리 모두 상생하며 살아있음을 느낀다.

‘A sense of relief’ <안도감>전은 자연으로부터 치유하고 위안받았던 우리의 감정들을 표현하고 재해석한 전시이다. 한국수묵화가 권소영, 도예가 허이서, 강민성, 유리공예가 김동완, 강정은, 목공예가 김민욱 6인의 작가가 자연이라는 소재로 함께 모였다. 그들의 공통점은 자연의 순수성을 이해하고 자연이 주는 아름다움을 작품에 녹아내어 우리의 마음을 위로하는 작품활동을 펼치는 작가 들이다. 총 6인의 작가들은 자연 속에서 느꼈던 감정을 각자의 방식으로 작품에 담았고, 갑작스레 멈추어 버린 시간을 살아가고 있는 우리에게 위로와 희망의 메시지를 전달하고자 한다.

공개된 음원은 ‘안도감(A sense of relief)’을 주제로 풀어낸 전시의 배경음악으로써 전자음악가 소설(@Soseol) 이 제작하였다. 전시 주제를 토대로 트랙들을 선택해 편곡했으며, 살아가며 늘 듣고 있고 존재하지만 자세히 인식하지 못하는 자연발생적인 소리들과 화이트 노이즈를 활용했다. 특히 사운드 디자인을 통해 주체적인 소리를 만들어 함께 연주하였으며, 믹스테이프 형식으로 제작해 전시를 관람하는 시간동안 온전히 공간안에 스며들게 한다. 제작된 음원의 오리지널 런타임은 두 시간으로 전시장(오브제 후드 갤러리)에서 풀타임으로 공개돼 6인 작가들의 작품들과 함께 감상할 수 있다.
