Behind The Sky is proud to present our 16th release, a gorgeous overview of contemporary downtempo electronic music, compiled by label DJ and co-collaborator extraordinaire DJ Maggie. The global ambient music scene and small chillout rooms are the spaces that have fed and informed our musical taste since the early 90’s. Paying homage to the deep waters and magical moments of the lesser and the unknown, this compilation is a love song to the community and sound that has inspired everything that we do.

“Collaborative creative projects have always held a special place in my heart. I learned about creative collaboration from hosting weekly Art Night events in the early 90s,  teaming up with others to construct  theme camps at Burning Man, and organizing outdoor gatherings with my Floasis and Moontribe crews. The spirit of many working toward a common creative goal is something that inspires me more than just about anything else. When Evan approached me to curate a compilation for Behind the Sky, highlighting this incredible community of inspiring electronic music, it felt like a great fit and an opportunity to invest energy in creative collaborative projects.

One of the things that excites me, as a DJ, is the opportunity to connect with the artists who make the music, even if it’s just to let them know their tunes have resonated with me. So many wonderful friendships have formed from the simple act of showing appreciation. Having been presented with the opportunity to compile Matters of the Heart, I leapt at the chance to have an even more tangible way to showcase this amazing music that touches my soul. Along the way, we lucked out to gain the support and participation of Michael Divine, who provided the incredible cover art. Besides being a world-class visionary artist, he is also a sweet friend of many years.

Some of the producers on Matters of the Heart are up and coming, while others are seasoned veterans of the electronic music culture. All of them have a unique voice. Over The Moon is proud to present our very first release, a deeply intimate exploration into downtempo realms from the ever dynamic producer Keerd. Thoughtfully constructed, melodic and alternating between ambient and sophisticated beat-driven explorations, Lost in a Daydream invites the listener to explore the spectrum of human emotions, where dark and kinetic spaces evolve into light.

“Lost in a Daydream is a reflection of my life for the last year or so. Being stuck in isolation for so long made it easy for my mind to wander down a dark path, looking at things with a bitter perspective, and wishing for things that weren't there. Most of the titles on the release were relevant to how I was feeling or what I was going through as I wrote the tunes. Completing this release has really helped me overcome the feeling of general sadness and wishful thinking I was experiencing and start to change my outlook in a more positive light. This release feels more personal to me than anything I've released before and I couldn't be happier with the way it turned out.” - Alex Keerd

ABOUT THE ARTIST:

Keerd is fascinated by how music influences the environment around us - how it sets the scene and tells a story that reflects the writer's emotions or experiences in unique ways. With the California native’s background in sound design, he has been perfecting his craft in electronic music for the past decade. This multi-genre producer strives to tell stories through his music and mixes, taking the listener on a kinetic yet spacious journey with his original sounds and movements. He is a founding member of Inquiry Collective and assists in managing their record label, Inquiry Records.

ABOUT OVER THE MOON:

Over The Moon is the new sister imprint of Behind The Sky Music, a record label created by established electronic producer Bluetech which is committed to releasing high quality limited edition vinyl presses of analog and modular synth music.  Formed during the pandemic lockdown, Over The Moon is a collaboration between label partners and longtime friends Evan Bartholomew (Bluetech) and Maggie Houtz (DJ Maggie). The two work closely on co-producing the weekly Twitch audiovisual show Holotropic Happy Hour as well as the various artists Matters of the Heart compilation in summer of 2021 for Behind the Sky. Maggie’s love for - and encyclopedic knowledge of - downtempo electronica is the guiding force in curating a catalog of gorgeous and emotional electronic music.   Over The Moon was born out of an inspiration to showcase more explicitly electronic, beat-driven music that sits just outside the parameters of the Berlin school ambient and analog synth-oriented releases of Behind The Sky.

We are defining music that moves us the most and encompasses the possibilities of sound and creative sound design  - emotive, exquisite, uniquely groovy, and all the spaces between. Over the Moon invites you on an immersive journey of music exploration: one that touches your heart and tickles your brain.

In 2021, for DJ Maggie's birthday, Evan Bluetech came forward with a special idea: starting the label "Over the Moon." He recognized that Maggie had the perfect mix of skills for running a record label. Her keen sense for picking out gems in the downtempo genre, coupled with her vast network of artist relationships, made her an ideal choice. While Evan initially collaborated on the label's foundation, he's since stepped into an advisory role, providing insights while DJ Maggie takes the helm as the driving force behind Over the Moon. Bluetech's latest tracks, stemming from the forthcoming "Spacehop Chronicles Vol. 2" release, remain a key part of Over the Moon's lineup.
