Rain Poem



Soft rain,

wet rain,

sideways rain,

warm rain.



The taste of it dripping,

the privilege of standing in it.

Not giving a damn. 

Walking out under it, 

underdressed and understanding 

cloth is not the medium 

conducive to conversation 

with this most alive element.



Rain would run 

off the skin 

if it were let, and 

skin rejoices when 

padded by droplets, 

drinking the mist 

like heather 

sweetly blooming.



Let us give the knowing look,

hunch our shoulders

 and scurry in the drizzle.

Lope through the torrent,

let harmless weather blow.

Leaving you damp and happier.

Readier for processed air, and

   sealed tinted windows

of whatever institution 

you thank deaf heaven

for having you -
where you will yearn for rain, 

and the smell of dirt,

wet rock, and a droplet 

running down your back.
