We are blessed to welcome our first artist to our new Podcast series. We say welcome dear XDB and thanks for contributing this beautiful vinyl only mix!

XDB is Kosta Athanassiadis – German by birth and in residence, with Greek parentage. His roots are in the central German town of Göttingen. It was here that he began DJing in the early nineties; where he worked in a record shop; where he ran a radio show for five years; and the base from which he established the Metrolux record label in 2006. 

For many people, it was at this point that XDB appeared on their radar.  He has no shortage of technical skill but it’s his selection that truly shines – putting the music itself at the forefront, letting songs breathe when need be, and delivering plenty of head-scratching ‘what the hell is this track?’ moments. It’s on this that Kosta has built his reputation. 

When it comes to producing, Kosta favours a slow and steady work rate, opting to focus on quality control rather than record shop ubiquity. His DJing keeps him in the public eye, but one gets the sense that XDB prefers to operate in the shadows. There’s a refreshing lack of gimmickry to his approach – keeping it low-key allows him to be judged solely on the basis of talent. Arguably, it’s an innate quality – the way he wants to play it; the way that brings him most satisfaction, but it’s helped establish his reputation as an artist of considerable merit, winning the approval his audience and peers, alike.

Number 7 of our OYE Podcast Series is coming from a well-known figure in the dub techno music industry. We are very happy to have him delivering a mix for us. Thanks Kenneth Christiansen

Kenneth is the owner of Echocord Records one of the most relevant dub techno labels, which has recently celebrated 20 years of activity. He is also running the Echocord sublabel Echocord Colour, and the label and project Pattern Repeat with his long-time friend Resoe. 

Since the late 1990s, Kenneth has frequently been spinning at Tresor in Berlin and other popular clubs and festivals all over Europe. His career in the genre dates back to his time spent working in record stores, running clubs and festivals in his hometown Copenhagen.

Karina Schneider

Our next OYE podcast is something very special because it comes from our lovely team member Gaia aka Formella. She delivers a colorful mix that ranges from deep techno to breaks to UK-influenced beats.

Formella´s sets are known for their diversity and range, you can hear her musical knowledge gained from working in Berlin record shop OYE Records. Her sets are full of surprises, and never lacking energy. For her it’s all about connecting with the crowd and keeping them on their toes. 

London born, Berlin based, Formella has taken on the Berlin club scene by storm, playing at HÖR multiple times, including for a Typeless Records showcase, and venturing beyond Germany to renowned clubs such as Thekla in Bristol for Interplanetary Criminals UK tour and Ankali in Prague. 

She is now delving into the realm of electronic music production, honing her musical theory skills learnt from piano and side flute, to work on her debut EP.

In an exciting development for OYE Records, the renowned Berlin record shop is set to relaunch with an anticipated debut EP from fast-rising local artist LACATY . LACATY's journey into the industry began through a serendipitous meeting with an OYE team member through Femme Bass Mafia and eventually found their own paths. As the idea of releasing a debut EP came up, it felt natural for LACATY and them to join forces. Relocating to London marked a pivotal moment in LACATY's career. Immersed in the city's vibrant energy, she was among a select group chosen for the AVA Creator Forum, where she honed her skills and creative practice. The distance from Berlin's social scene provided the mental space to fully develop her ideas, resulting in a debut EP. "I wanted to create what I play – tracks that are not only energetic and punchy but also filled with emotion," LACATY shared. "Being in London, away from the familiar Berlin vibe, allowed my sound to evolve naturally, unconfined by genre expectations." Designed to heat up any dance floor, all three tracks feel like an ode to the vibrant 90s music scene. They are woven together by a blissful euphoria, while simultaneously evoking a sense of nostalgia.

OYE 12" Service: LACATY - Cascade EP Snippets

Number 15 of our OYE Podcast Series is coming from Willem aka Rasval, who recorded a vinyl only mix under his new alias ‚Willem‘, which focuses more into House and Dub-House and will be a platform for his musical outcome in these genres. 
  
Grown up in a little town in the middle of Mecklenburg Pomerania, William has been socialized in his teen age by several surrounded electronic music events. After moving to Berlin for his audio engineering studies, he started his musical DJ and live-act project Rasval in the beginning of 2019 to focus on the deeper and classical side of Techno and House - mostly inspired by the sound of Detroit, UK and Dub. 

An international tour schedule has since followed, including stops and appearances at prestigious venues and events, including Tresor Berlin, Modular Cape Town, Video Club Bogota, Toytoy at And Club Johannesburg, Griessmuehle Berlin, Institut fuer Zukunft Leipzig as well as Good2U Festival, Feel Festival and many more. 

Nebelgelb’, the first EP of his collaborations with label partner Ones. which includes remixes by .VRIL & Sleeparchive, kickstarted their own Hardwax-distributed imprint TMN TRAX itself. During the studio work with him they most recently found the live-project Current Location with which they have their debut release on the Robert Johnson’s 25 years birthday compilation Lifesaver 5 in August 2024 among artists such as Gerd Janson, Mano Le Tough, Massimiliano Pagliara & Cinthie.

Our dear friend Subradeon is the next for our OYE Podcast series. This 3 hours mix is a live recording from our OYE night at Renate. It´s a groovy house mix full with funk, soul and jazz influenced vibes. 

Subradeon is a musical mission started more than fifteen years ago in southern Italy, well known as a territory rich in artistic and musical vanguards, with the intention to continue and be an active part of that message born in Detroit’s streets in the middle 80’s: “live the music” as a universal message, as the most important thing, as a cultural movement. One thing is clear, from the first listen one can appreciate their innovative ability, their creativity in mixing different styles, honoring the pure techno sound with the soul of Motown combined with elements that range from hip hop to jazz, from funk to soul. 

2018 is the year of Subradeon Records. “God Bless” EP was the first release that opened the doors to the electronic music scene. OYE Podcast #16 Subradeon

Next one in our OYE Podcast series in the lovely and always friendly Violeta. We know her from being a regular customers at our record store. That´s why it was clear, that she has to be a part of our well selected podcast. For this mix she dives into the progressive house of the early 2000s, spiced with dubby deep and tech house. 

Vio PRG has spent a decade immersed in the music industry in her native Romania, which has informed her most recent endeavor as a radio show host on Berlin community radio Refuge Worldwide and resident at beloved club staple Renate. 

Vio's monthly Flight Mode show is an outlet for weird and wonderful floaty digs, while their sets fuse nostalgic rave digs with fresh releases to shape moments of connection on the dancefloor. 

Her club residency night, also called Flight Mode, continues to showcase different facets of dancefloor-friendly selections.

The second edition of the Rose Records limited 10" series comes courtesy of Junktion, whose releases on the likes of Outplay and Slow Town didn't only sell out at breakneck speed but also established him as one of Holland's biggest talents in discerning deephouse/disco circles.

Junktion does what he does best on this delightful little platter. The lolloping 'Running for Whatever' on the A is as infectious as they come, with loads of clever samples arranged over classy rolling drums and a deep, rubbery bassline. Flip over for Pale Blue Dot, a slightly tougher, trippier uptempo workout with spaced out pads, big drums, crisp hats and massive synth stabs that should whip up a real frenzy in a packed club. Killer pair of tunes from a producer that's very much on top of his game.

@HADE from Cologne is a great DJ with a huge knowledge about every kind of music.
He made some Footwork, he made some bass music stuff and he already released some edits.
OYE´s @Delfonic met HADE the first time at the Splash Festival and after that in Cologne at the collage radio station.

MOED is a very special selection of obscure edits, a side project from MOM, based in Barcelona.
The idea of this “DJ USE ONLY” material comes from Da Silva, an undercover label partner and a great collector, who made one of the edits. This EP also features well known producers like Jimi Bazzouka aka Joakim and Pedro Vian, the label owner.
Obscure Edits Volume 1 has a distinct 1980s feel, with each editor breathing new life into their chosen track. The first edit on the EP is PV’s edit Live In Japan. It features powerful synths, tight percussion and as you might expect, Japanese vocals. Next up is Da Silva’s version of My Man. This edit sees layered synths and a bassline provide a wonderful groove, where they are joined by heartbroken vocals. Finally, we have Jimi Bazzouka aka Joakim’s take on Somerset Hills. Here, a playful flute with an eastern feel is laid over strong keys and adaptable percussion. This is a strong selection of edits, which are ready for the dancefloor.

Created and recorded by hordes of sweaty musicians, a handful of talented producers plus a bunch of skilled studio engineers. Edited and adjusted by some Berlin based Belgian (A2 and B1 with the help of a Swede) for maximum disco dancing delight.  "Fuifnummers" is Dutch for "party starters" and that's exactly what you get. This one comes with added intros for double copy beat juggling fun!

Hamam House 4 comes from the shining talent N-Gynn. Co-produced with the long time label friend Remi Mazet, and a 1st in the original productions on the Hamam series, delivers a 4 tracker to groove the intergalactic dance floors from the good old earth (flat and round parts) to new found galaxies.  Something for everyone in there, even u E.T. and this might just help u phone home.

Tired of another EP filled with US disco or afro boogie edits? Then we got you covered – after 3 years The Very Polish Cut Outs are back with another instalment of their samplers. This new offering is filled with 4 delicious polish tracks edited for making the dancefloor sweat.
The A-side has starts with a new edit from Holiday 80, the Warsaw duo steals the show with a proper stomper „Twą Jasną Widzę Twarz” („I can see your light face”), a heavy party weapon with infectious vocal hooks based on a totally unknown track by a very famous Polish folk band. The next track is deep disco at its best - „Dżinsowe maniery” („Jeans manners”) edited by Karol Aleksander who joins forces with Bisti, a new talent on the TVPC roster. Their reinterpretation of a pretty unknown song by superstar Polish diva is a straight floor-filler infused with soul vocals.
On the flip side, you will find two edits by the Belarusian maestro Schmoltz, who once again proves, that he’s the master when it comes to digging obscure tracks from behind the Iron Curtain. The first piece is „Piosenka młodych wioślarzy” („The song of the young rowmen”) an energetic time-bomb as well as a crazy combo of organ stabs and groovy horns. The other cut is a hypnotizing edit of “To będzie koniec” (“This will be the end”), a Polish new-wave unheard classic with a psychedelic twist. The cover sleeve was designed by the long-time label collaborator Bartek Szymkiewicz.
