Was playing around with some chords and was stuck for inspiration on a theme. My 9 year old wandered into the "studio" (spare room) so I said give me a title for a song. He told me he had only come in to say he was "missing pieces" of lego. So I said Missing Pieces will be the title and it grew from there 😃
I asked my good buddy Johnny from No Killie Fish to lay some of his awesome guitar lines for the lead guitar and I think it has really added some flavor to the track and the solo is killer!! Music to listen to while wandering through an airport; they seem to have a unique atmosphere, perhaps contributed to by the equalization of all people into 'travelers'. Unique also in cases where you may frequent a specific hub over a period of time, perhaps a lounge inside it, maybe even those who work there, that space can become a familiar and comfortable atmosphere within a city you may never step foot in.

Rambling on my mind

I'm a huge fan of a lot of movie and television scores for a lot of the content from the 50s and 60s, and have been especially influenced by Bernard Herrmann's work with Hitchcock as well as material like this. Here's my interpretation of Mr. Herrmann's piece for a Twilight Zone episode in 1959. 

Instruments in order of their appearance: Atmospherics, Trombone, Vibes, Ondes Martenot, Trumpet, Piano, Glockenspiel, Harp, Synth, and Organ.

Eleven Months | Bernard Herrmann

This track is my contribution to Cities and Memory's Spring Project 2025 (citiesandmemory.com/spring-project-2025/). I was inspired by Jamie House's field recording, 'The future pasts of the Rotterdam Bridge', and reimagined it as this experimental piece of music.

I accompanied the music with the following description:

Jamie House's field recording, Rotterdam Bridge, reflects the impact of civilisation. There are endless noises of traffic in different tonalities and volumes.
The sound of the bridge itself can be heard, as well as the sounds of nature — birds, water and the sea beneath the bridge.

The track "Rotterdam Dystopia" attempts to translate this complex system into music. Everything in this world is based on the sea, which therefore appears in the track.

The rhythm of modern life is played by percussion instruments derived from snippets of sound from the field recording, which are sometimes transformed.
The musical content is also completely derived from the recording — chord progressions and notes were extracted and only adapted to fit the musical scales.

The track was built using these materials with the aim of conveying the disturbing and sometimes dystopian feelings already present in the field recording of the modern world.
