Cities are full of sound – sirens, trains, alarms, buses, cars and snatches of dialogue float through our ears. And although everyone absorbs these symbols of urban life, the larger city soundscape is mostly ignored by a society focused upon self-development and visual rather than aural association (even the words used to describe sounds are often derived from other senses – high,, low, sweet, sharp, fat, wet, dry). Ironically, the rhythms and sounds of the city are a reflection upon the lifestyles and purpose of the city's population. This recording is our interpretation of the sounds and rhythms of the metropolis in which we live, work and play. Our music often serves as a catalyst to relieve and even rejoice in the frustrations of primate city living. Whether urban or rural, music has always been a product of its surrounding environment. We are a product of the city – it serves as our inspiration and more importantly it provides us with a means to survive. Junk percussion is what has come naturally to us over the last 20 months, and this recording documents our strong relationship with it.
