The latest Phase Group Mix comes to us from Manchester-based DJ Nusheen Ghaemi. A resident on NARR radio, Nusheen comes from a background of r&b, dnb and bass. 

Her Phase Group Mix threads a line from crunchy down-tempo machine jams to futuristic electro, moving through other-worldly bass music, dark acid sounds and more. 

About her mix Nusheen said 'I first met Tom and Dan in Leeds at a time when I was only just becoming exposed to rougher, darker, more experimental electronic sounds. Living there and becoming a part of the underground scene had an immeasurable impact on me + this mix is a sort of love letter to that and how it has shaped my current music practice. Phase Group encapsulate so much of what I came to love in that city so it was super fun to connect all those dots and create a mix that features lots of jarring elements and shapeshifting but is also something you can dance to, whether that be in your bedroom or in the club.'

Finally joining me on the turntables is auld mate SVN - the unassuming provost of the underground. The man behind the mighty SUED records (for my money one of the best labels eva), he has been around since day dot with endless productions from post-p to synth-p to tripped out hau5. The master of all things DIY, a true punk & real hero of mine. Not to mention a killer DJ.

2 hours of eclectic stuff - near impossible to choose some w4x when playing with such geezer, but here we are: 100% vinyl as it should be - keep it real!!

Now based in the Bay Area, @sisgirlpgh has become a staple of the US queer underground via the close-knit and musically multifaceted Pittsburgh dance music community and through unforgettable sets at festivals like Gays Hate Techno and Honcho Campout. A co-founder of Pittsburgh's MESH, alongside ChadKid and newly minted resident Calin, and a resident of Kosmetik in San Francisco, their sets traverse many tempos within a dreamy, bassy, and effervescent palette. Their mix is a perfect backdrop as we lament the absence of those queer summer moments in the woods due to the COVID-19 pandemic, bouncing between melancholic reflection and joyful reminiscence.

"The tracks I put into this mix have been some I have been sitting on for a while and wanted to put together. When quarantine because of COVID started I wanted to create something with energy but still something on a tempo that wouldn’t necessarily be played on a dance floor.

The mix is recorded all around 100 BPM but still brings energy so it’s great for a mellow time or something different. The tracks are new plus some that I’ve had tucked away for a time like this. It’s one of my favorite things I’ve put together and I hope it brings people a lot of comfort and happiness during this time."

I had this dream - I could hear the galloping coming my way. The dark knights of the soul, riders of the realm. They were coming to present me a coin, a choice, "heads or tails?"... "Headz", I said. With a flick of a thumb, the coin spiraled into the air in slow motion. In a state of suspended time, the coin revealed that it had many sides and perspectives, so many beyond heads and tails - almost infinity like. It continued to spin, like a Rodolex, demonstrating every possibility for what felt like an eternity. Transfixed, I stared as it went from slow to fast, so fast at this point that it formed into a black sphere. I put my palm out underneath it, which is when they told me, "the world comes from shadow... with precision." The coin landed in my palm and I clenched my fist. I awoke instantly. I never saw which way that coin landed! My laptop was next to me, and 'Blue Flowers' by Doctor Octagon was playing on Youtube - Nipuna
