Lupita Infante and her production team stopped by for a fun interview to talk about the production of Lutpita's latest single, Cucurrucucu Paloma, which was made famous by her Grandfather, Iconic actor and singer Pedro Infante in the 1955 Film Classic Escuela de Vagabundos.
Joining Lupita is producers Angelique Calvillo & Sonny, Julian Torres (trumpet)and Christian Ortiz (vihuela).

We spoke about how Lupita and team transformed a classic Mexican song into a hip new arrangement for a new generation.

Los Rock Angels band members Louie Mendez and Rick Reyes join KPFK 90.7FM host Mark Torres to talk about the Celebrity filled roster of artists, musicians and comedians coming together to raise funds for Marcos Loya, an iconic musician and composer who is facing Health and Financial Hardship. 

Marcos Loya is a founding member of Califas, guest performer for Madonna on la Isla Bonita and her Like A Prayer album, and composer for many popular films over the years.

On this week’s From The Vault, We celebrate The Birthday of one of America’s most gifted playwrights, Lorraine Hansbury. At the age of 29 she was the youngest playwright and first Black dramatist to win the New York Drama Circle critics Award for her play A Raisin In The Sun.

About a year later Lorraine Hansbury visited the Pacifica Radio WBAI studios with fellow writing legends Langston Hughes, James Baldwin and Alfred Kazin and Emile Capouya. The topic of the day. The Negro in American Culture.

But First we hear from actor Louis Gossett Jr. Former host Brian DeShazor and I drove out to his Malibu Beach home where we spoke to him about his experience with Lorraine Hansberry in early 2016. It turns out Louis was a New York Knickerbacker basketball player making good money when he went for an audition to this upcoming play A Raisin in the Sun. He got the part and now he had to choose between Professional Basketball and Acting… Let’s hear from Mr. Louis Gossett Jr. to hear his moment in history with Lorraine Hansberry in his own words.

Sing songwriter and Travel Tips co-host Nancy Sanchez and producer Beto Hale were my special guests to talk about Nancy's new 3-song EP Say Something. the songs were inspired by the community actions during the Black Lives Matter protest in response to the killing of George Floyd in late May early June 2020. Beto's productions were lush and beautiful. the songs Say Something, The Kids Are Still in Cages and Hasta Que Todos Estemos A Salvo are premiered in this segment.
