For years now, an old recording of Jeffrey Sfire at Cocktail D'Amore's one and only cosmic hole was one of the highest references for us in terms of downtempo Italo sleaze - an almost 6 hours recording serving more like a PhD aural dissertation specialized in some of the most remarkable dancefloor digs (mainly Europe) had to offer in the 80s at under 115BPM. To be able to share it publicly on the HAND Mix Series as we reach number 50 is a huge honor and we're greatly thankful to Giacomo and Giovanni, the two cuties behind Discodromo that made this possible. Good news! Pacific Spirit is back after a small hiatus with our first mix of 2024. This time around it's a 3 hour live recording from one of Pittsburgh's finest, Aaron Clark. Here's a bit of back story on the recording:

In October 2022, Hot Mass threw a fundraiser for the Kyiv Angels – a group doing work to support Ukrainian civilians. We tapped Kyiv’s Closer resident Shakolin, and I took the warm-up set of the night. This is the recording of my part of the night. I dusted off a lot of old favourite records and leaned into a slow build that I try to set the club up with, tugging the floor between psychedelic rhythms, trippy techno and pops of house. This recording landed in that bullseye opening zone I aim for, and I hope it transports you to my favourite little dance floor in the world."

About the mix: For me, House music is a 44-year-old genre of music that originated and popularized in the black gay LGBTQ+ nightclub spaces of New York, Chicago, and Detroit that spilled on to influence and inspire the world. House music is a living breathing relic that tells its own story in the hits, the lyrics, the parties, and our legends and legacies in local and worldwide scenes. 
House music is a mode of being, a ritualistic euphoria we gather for, a space of praise, connection, and unadulterated feeling, healing and dancing- kind of like church should be, a dance floor where there is room for someone like you.
The mix I made explores a spiritual realm of House music with influences of Jazz, Disco, Gospel, and African and Latin Diasporic sounds. 
Its infectious rhythms take you into a certain sentimentality. This is an ancestral conversation twisting into different messages of hope and resilience. The heart, soul, and mind are wrestling with big themes in these transitions. Though breaking through at times to find lightness, this one is meant to go deep. I love that House Music can hold all the multitudes and complexities of being human.
